Being an intellectual inside PKK is seen as a fault, a malformation wich must be dealt with. It is officially the sign of a lost of one roots, a contamination by the colonialist and imperialist culture (i.e. Turkish). It is also an internal danger for the organisation, which does not want the militants to have critical point of view on the methods…

According to testimonies, two «training levels » are available: one basic formation, and one intensified training. The length of the training is two months, 12 hours lessons a day. The size of the group varies from 40 to 60 persons. There is of course a lot of discipline. Each member must control every act of the others and denounce it if needed during the first hour of lesson the following day. The first part, around 20 % of the training, deals with « history of the societies » « bourgeois revolution of 1789 », « Kurdistan history », « philosophy and history of the PKK ».
Needless to say who the main author is…

Much is said about Yezidis, from hostile groups to pro-Aryanist Kurdish nationalists, and all is wrong. So I think it is useful to make a survey of the real history of Yezidism (and of course, history being an evolutive science, there is no definitive and complete knowledge about a historical research, but let’s stress on real facts).

On February 8th in the Kurdish Institute of Paris, there will be an exhibition of Munzur Valley and Dersim pictures, from Northern Kurdistan. Though I guess that most readers of this blog could not go there, I publish the presentation written by both photographers, which is an interesting survey of Dersimi history.

Fine pictures of Hasankeyf, one of the most beautiful Kurdish cities, condemned by the Turkish state to be flooded by a dam. John Wreford, the photographer, lives in Syria and if you look at his blogger profile, he has other blogs with pictures from Syria, Lebanon, Palestine.

The “Beritan Line” is named after a kurdish woman who allegedly threw herself over a cliff in order to escape surrendering to the KDP. It defines PKK’s policy towards Kurdish parties in Souht Kurdistan: hostility and refusal of a federal system in Iraq…

Whereas PDK provided him a logistical help at his beginnings, Abdullah Öcalan’s PKK showed very quickly its hostility to a party described as « feudal » « pro imperialist » with « non scientific socialism ». Perhaps can we add that PDK was the only Kurdish mass organisation at the time, popular in all Kurdistans. A dozen of PDK members are killed in 1984 by PKK fighters, their bodies being then given to Irak. A first episode in PKK collaboration with Saddam’s regime, the last one having consisted in giving informations about American bases in Irak in 2003. During the first Kurdish elections in 1992, PKK created a party called PAK (Freedom’s party in Kurdistan) which supported PUK’s green list…

Shortly, Kamal Qadir’s troubles could be summarized like that : He writes since many years some articles criticizing corruption and nepotism of the Kurdish government, and exposes for that some facts, probably verifiable and indubitable facts. According the criterions of freedom of expression, it is his absolute right to do it, and even a duty.

Today is a historic day for Kurds , exactly 60 years ago ,
22 January 1946 , the first Kurdish Republic was founded by Peshewa Qazi Mohammad in East Kurdistan (Iran) .
They didn’t let the Kurdish Republic’s life last more than one year, but it has been alive in the hearts of Kurds everywhere, like Kurdish hearts in Southern Kurdistan (Iraq.) (more…)

Working on a road, Southern Kurds have discovered a mass grave (another one) in Shamshamal, near of Silêmanî.

In Roma, each time someone digs somewhere, an archeological site is excavated, making a big problem for subway construction. In Southern Kurdistan, problem is massgraves. Welcome to Anfaland.

On tuesday January 10th 2005, in the University of Sorbonne, Paris, Saywan Barzani has defended his thesis in politicial science : The Iraqi Kurdistan Question, 1991-2005.
Jury was composed with as pro-Kurds scholars as more general specialists of the Middle-East, the debates were so quite interesting, to show how the Kurdish question is considered in the highest levels of jurists and specialists in policy and geostrategy.

(By waiting for the seance start, we could see Bernard Dorin far end in the room, to draw, as usually, a Kurdish map. It allowed me to recognize him, at a great distance and just seeing his back…)
