Today is a historic day for Kurds , exactly 60 years ago ,
22 January 1946 , the first Kurdish Republic was founded by Peshewa Qazi Mohammad in East Kurdistan (Iran) .
They didn’t let the Kurdish Republic’s life last more than one year, but it has been alive in the hearts of Kurds everywhere, like Kurdish hearts in Southern Kurdistan (Iraq.)
yes , like Southern Kurds , yesterday the two major Southern Kurdish parties (Iraqi), officially ended division in south Kurdistan and agreed to form the united Kurdistan government, in southern part of Kurdistan , the government with same flag that Qazi Mohammad had given to General Barzani (the father of Massud Barzani) .
The 1946 Kurdish republic was a short experience, but a great one, and Qazi Mohammad will always remain in the history of Kurdistan as a hero figure.
The hero that preferred be hanged for his nation than running away to the Soviet Union.
So let’s remember this day and remember him. , I have created a directory on our site, in his name and made a computerized artwork that displays a Qazi Mohammad picture using ASCII codes [not by pixels.] This picture will always remain on our site in honor of him. Take a look, please:

The Mahabad Republic was a short experience, unfortunately, but very impressive in the Kurdish history. Most of political and cultural inheritage remain of it (flag, peshmergas). And I have always found that Qazi Mohamamd was a very nice man, as so fond of culture than of political freedom.
Well done dyaoko.. it’s great! (Ascii pic)

[…] Roj Bash writes about a new mass grave found in Iraq and has a post in honor of the anniversary of the creation of the first Kurdish republic founded in Iran. […]
To commemorate Qazi Mihemed and other martyres of Kurdistan Republic of Mahabad 0r (Dewletî Cumhurîyetî Kurdistan) in kurdish certainly is a very effective factor in strengthening Kurdish identity.
But many aspects of that experience should be studied
further. Something that many people are consentrating
upon.
