Being an intellectual inside PKK is seen as a fault, a malformation wich must be dealt with. It is officially the sign of a lost of one roots, a contamination by the colonialist and imperialist culture (i.e. Turkish). It is also an internal danger for the organisation, which does not want the militants to have critical point of view on the methods…
According to testimonies, two «training levels » are available: one basic formation, and one intensified training. The length of the training is two months, 12 hours lessons a day. The size of the group varies from 40 to 60 persons. There is of course a lot of discipline. Each member must control every act of the others and denounce it if needed during the first hour of lesson the following day. The first part, around 20 % of the training, deals with « history of the societies » « bourgeois revolution of 1789 », « Kurdistan history », « philosophy and history of the PKK ».

The second part is about the « Cözümleme » (solution in Turkish). Students must listen to Öcalan speeches, around 4 or 5 hours long, repetition of the main concepts, two times a week. This speeches are filmed, then written and published by « publications of the central school of the party), before being distributed to every party’s cell and translated for Europe. The students must say what they understood, and then make an autocritic. They must take care of chose the right words, unless they want to be denounced as a « provocative agent » and at best re-educated, at worse…
An important part of the formation is « Now that you know the reality of the party, if you leave you will be a traitor ». Those who want to live in spite of all are beaten, or killed. Some PKK’ers say this a lie, that there is a lot of freedom and that people just don’t go back because they love Apo, and anyway have problems with the Turks. Some, and I met more than one of them, say that is normal in an army to kill deserters, that they know too much to be kept alive, and that this is the fate of traitors anyway…
According to Semdin Sakik, a former commandant of ARGK (now HPG): “PPK has become a sum of non-thinking brains, non-loving hearts, wasted talents and robot behaviours.. »
Only Apo deserves love (but as he said, Kurdish people don’t deserve him), so it’s forbidden to love or have friends inside PKK. Those matters will wait the victory. It won’t hurt to remember that North Kurdistan has been destroyed by the war, that a lot of schools have been closed (and a lot of teachers (Kurdish or Turkish) killed by PKK…
According to some ex-militants (i.e. traitors), hundreds of guerrilla have been executed on a doubt…let’s hear a prominent « traitor », Abdullah Öcalan’s brother Osman, interviewed by French journalist Chris Kutschera in 2005: He has been put into detention in June 1993, after having signed a cease fire with PDK and UPK, who, helped by Turkey, were about to crush the PKK. « In June 1993 they took away all my powers. I was kept during three months in a cell, I could not talk to anyone, I was fed all right but conditions were very harsh. I had only a radio. I was judge in February 1995 after having been interrogated during 52 days. The trial was only one day long. It happened in a cave in Haftanin. When I entered the cave there were 350 persons here, everybody looked really severe and there was a great silence. I was told that if I continued to defend my ideas I would be executed. In 1997, after two years of silence, I was given my rights back, and I became a basic militant of the party. »
Sanaz Altun (Sakine), one of the leaders of the PJAK (Party of free women of Kurdistan), joined the PKK when she was 20 year old. She was jailed 3 times by the party, 2 times for one month and a half, in 1991, a third time for one year, in 2000, after the seventh congress of the PKK. In 1991, she followed a training in Bekaa’s valley in Lebanon: « after I saw what was happening, I started to tell some friends that Apo was acting like Hitler or Stalin. I was denounced and put in jail for 1 month and a half, two times. In 1999 after Apo’s arrest I started to criticize the party openly. I asked for more freedom for our organisation (PJAK). I was arrested with all the leaders of the movement, 19 women. Six of us spent one year in prison, in huts covered by plastic. The man she married in May 2004, another dissident of PKK, has been killed since.

It is interesting to notice that these opponents were often prominent commanders, respected leaders…Öcalan’s system of leadership does not admit the existence of a “second in commandâ€; and a commander starting to take too much importance is bound to be “eliminatedâ€â€¦ In European Cells of the party, it is common to see a young brainwashed militant commanding people members for 20 years.
In fact, the rules of life within the PKK were so hard that no one could be “innocent”. All members had something to reproach. For the aim was not to make a “perfect” militant (only Öcalan is perfect) but a party of “guilty” members. Then everybody were the prosecutor of everybody, and the convict too. Spending their time to avoid denounciations and to spy their comrades, hevals had not much time to think by themselves… Let’s accuse, or be accused was the motto. A thirs way was to make agreement with someone before a seance of self-confession : “You ‘ll THAT about me, but not THIS, and in exhange I won’t tell THAT about you, and only THIS.” The general rule that no one could say he is not wrong. In that case, he proves that he has not killed “the ennemy in himself”…

very funny. The institute has been founded in 1983, before the GREAT PKK REVOLUTION, and never depended on it. And this usual assert : “before PKK there was no Kurdish movement in Northern Kurdistan” is wrong, only a tale invented for the glory of the PKK… Mehdi Zana, when he was elected as the Mayor of Diyarbakir, did not belong to the PKK, for example.

What I said was it does not matter if you or Ocalan
are half kurdish biologically. what is important is a political project for solving kurdish cause , and that is something which the name and ideas of Ocalan is associated with.
The people you refered to are ex-members of that movement, obviously in order to justify their split , they should come up with such claims. You know Kurdish movement was involved in an armed struggle and resistance for a very long time. that method of struggle in the history of mankind have always experienced negative aspects, Kurdish movement is no exeption.
