ERBIL, June 2 (AKnews)- Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources has announced a ban on introducing imported striped cucumber, fig, peach and green pepper into Kurdistan markets.

The ban on striped cucumber, fig and peach is temporary but the one on green pepper is permanent, said Nouri Ismael, loan and marketing director at the Ministry.

Ismael added the ban will come into effect in mid June. The ban on striped cucumber and peach lasts until the end of October and the one for fig until the end of November.

In recent years the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources has announced several schedules to ban the import of certain items in order to boost the local product.

Protectionism is arguable if it is a good or bad thing. It may close the door for imports by pushing their prices up, but that doesn't necassorily mean export prices will go down.

NKA has been awarded a contract by MGH - Mass Group Holding Ltd. to convert its Erbil Independent Power Project (IPP) from simple-cycle to combined-cycle technology. The Project will be on an EPC basis.

The existing Erbil Gas Power Station has been developed by MGH - Mass Group Holding Ltd. as a simple-cycle project with a capacity of 1,000 MW which is Kurdistan’s largest power plant. The combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) conversion will add an additional 500MW to the project by using turbines manufactured by GE.

Erbil Gas Power Station has eight GE - 9E gas turbines at present. Four of them were built in 2009 and the other four gas turbines have been recently completed. All are under operation now.

The major works under the contract are the design, procurement, installation and start-up of the eight HRSG's, two nominally rated 250 MW STG's, two GSUs, a cooling system and all other equipment to convert the simple cycle plant into a 4 x 4 x 1, two block configuration combined cycle project, including all civil and erection works.

The Erbil Combined Cycle Power Project will be designed to work on two types of fuel – natural gas as the primary and diesel as the secondary source and will utilise the steam produced by the existing Erbil Gas Power Station. The Erbil Combined Cycle Power Plant shall be capable of being dispatched for any combination of base-load operation throughout its design service life. An Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) system will be used for the cooling system which will consist of two blocks each with approximately 40 cells. Two GE steam turbine generator sets will be used and the site will have a total of eigth HRSGs, each block containing four HRSGs. The scope of works under the contract also includes a 400kV swithyard for which the interconnection point will be a dead-end structure to be erected by the Ministry of Electricity.

The plant when converted into a combined cycle will have a total capacity of 1500 MW. The project is scheduled to start in April 2012 and will be completed in January 2015. The plant is located about 20 kms south of the city of Erbil, Combined Cycle Power Project will be the first combined cycle power plant in Iraq and will provide approximately 25% of the power demand of the Kurdistan Region.

ERBIL, June 6 (AKnews) - In just a few years the Kurdistan Region has gone from being a destroyed area, largely ignored by the international community, to a steady, thriving and prosperous region much to the envy of the rest of the country, reports Canada's Macleans magazine.

The region is thriving due to the massive work of foreign investors and oil giants, while the rest of the country is still suffering from insurgent attacks and political deterioration between Shia and Sunni.

The article added that both the Hilton and Marriott chains are building new hotels in Erbil to catch Kurdistan’s tourist wave. The region is rich in historical and archeological sites. Both the National Geographic and the New York Times ranked the ancient citadel of Erbil among their top-rated places to visit last year.

The Kurdistan Regional Government announced an eight percent GDP growth rate in 2011, nearly more than what China achieved. The Kurds are allocated 17 percent of Iraq’s total oil export revenue.

During a visit by Cezch Trade minister Martin Coba, Cezch Ambassador as well as a representative of Zetor tractor company to KRG Agricultural minister Sirwan Baban.

In a meeting it was decided to open a branch of the tractor in kurdistan which will sell tractors , spare parts as well as maintenance of the tractors .

The delegation also revealed , major Cezch companies will participate in the upcoming Erbil international exhibition this year.



"we will help Kurdistan region in agricultural sector so that the farmers can get the latest equipments and facilities to develop and maintain their farms in an advanced way" said the Cezch trade minister.

No not total that's just KRG budget plus one we get from Baghdad so it's $15 billion all up

No not total that's just KRG budget plus one we get from Baghdad so it's $15 billion all up

Lol our budget is like 3 times bigger than Armenia's, and they are a official country.
