Government Cautiously Approves Kurds' Arming

The Iraqi government has no objection to semi-autonomous Kurdish authorities purchasing weapons and ammunition to arm their security forces, but it wants to be informed, a government spokesman said Monday.

The Washington Post reported Sunday that the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) had quietly shipped in three C-130 cargo planes loaded with guns and bullets from Bulgaria, stirring concerns among U.S. officials over possible armed confrontation between the Kurds and the Iraqi government.

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said officials would not oppose the Kurds arming their police if it was aimed at strengthening national or regional security.

"I don't deny there is some tension between the KRG and the federal government due to many issues," Dabbagh said. "It won't reach to a level of conflict."

so yeah they are allowed to buy what ever they need except (Jets) other weapons like choppers tanks you name it KRG can buy them and of course it will be paid by KRG not Baghdad .

Due to the meeting to be held at Baghdad for the Arab league leaders , an Iraqi army brigade will withdraw from Diyala and will be replaced with a Peshmerga brigade who have recently been stationed near by.

A kurdish security source from Diyala in the sliced off areas told (awena) " an agreement has been made thus in the next few days a Peshmerga brigade which are originally stationed in Kirkuk and recently have been stationed in the area will be replacing the Iraqi army brigade in those areas, the Iraqi brigade will be withdrawing to Baghdad due to the Arab league leadership meeting that is about to take place over there " .

"the brigade will be deployed inside Jalawla and Sadyea" the source said.

on his part the Chairmen of Diyala provincial Council Talib Mahamad told (awena) : there is some information regarding this matter circulating around , but we have not received anything officially yet.

Talib stated " a high committee between the Iraqi defense army and Kurdistan Peshmerga forces has been formed regarding stationing Peshmerga in those areas and they have come to some sort of agreements ".

Previously According to an article published by (AKnews), Jabar Yawar the undersecretary of Peshemrga had announced that in a near future their forces will be stationed in Jalawla and Sadyea .

do you know what cinds of arms had krg bought from bulgaria? because of my bad english i can not filter the information by this large textes.
only arms ammunition?

i read some years ago that the planes were carrying mostly zastava M92. Im not sure if the source was true,tough. but peshmerga DO have zastava M92,ive seen many pictures of it,even on this forum But im not sure if we got them from bulgaria

It doesn't say what they bought but 3 daysbof constant cargo C130 loads should speak for itself

A source from KRG has revealed that today the Albanian Defense Minister arrived in Erbil.

Falah Musfata Head of Foreign Affairs Department in Kurdistan told (AKnews) that today the Albanian Defense Minister landed in Erbil to participate in an international conference held regarding the Genocides of Kurdish people tomorrow.

"Albanian defense minister has come to Erbil to further strengthen ties between Albania and KRG , he will be meeting Pres., other Govt officials and Ministers" Falah said.

It's anything except fighter jets but apparently they will get 2 As well provided by Baghdad once they arrived

yes,ive heard many turks and arabs say that.
a kurd sent me on my last youtube account (it got blocked from youtube because i was offending turkish terrorist to much ) an article that those MRL where paid for by KRG.

Peshmerga minister told (AKNews) that next month another 4 brigades will be formed and going under Peshmerga's direct control.

he said " by next month another 4 brigades will be formed adding to the existing 8 and we will unit and form the entire brigades by year's end" .

" there must be only one armed forces in Kurdistan and it must be under Peshmerga's direct control " he said referring to the remaining amount of current armed forces under the 2 main political parties" .

he also expressed his concerns over remaining armed forces not under his ministry and urged KRG to allocate more budgets so that unification of the remaining ones can initiate as soon as possible .

Jafar also revealed that so far 8 brigades has been united and well equipped , by next month another 4 will be ready and under his ministry's control.

In the end he said " after the formation of another 4 , we will begin unifying and forming the entire remaining brigades and their work will be done before the end of this year" .
