The title reads: "Mohammed Ihsan: 'Article 140 for Kurds is a fight of life and death' ". Implicating it is a very important issue for Kurds and Kurds will fight till the end to achieve it.

Really? Have you heard anything or is just your personal speculation? Because I think it is very important from Kurds to work on G-Translator for at least the two most widely used Kurdish dialects!

That is a VERY good news and an incredibly important issue. Unfortunately, most politicians think in the old fashioned ways and don't believe in the power of modern technology! But if they are utilized in a good way, they can be extremely effective in promoting your goals, in our case, the Kurdish identity.

It seems like recently the KRG has come to such realization, especially with Google. Lately, Google included Kurdish language for its search engine http://www.google.iq/ . Also, they included Kurdistan in their Google Maps, the map is one of the best and includes almost all parts of "Greater Kurdistan" http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&t=h&oe=UTF8&msa=0&msid=101640126860435170753.00048e850e000496e2f84

Mozilla Firefox is under the process of translation into Kurdish (Kurmanji). I also heard that some major companies like Oracle, HP and Dell have been visiting Kurdistan regularly to open business there and support Kurdish language.

Kurdistan People for Sit-ins if Article 140 Not Implemented

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Wed Jun 01, 2011 4:31 pm

June 1, 2011

ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Speaker of Kurdistan Parliament warned on Tuesday that the people of Kirkuk and the Kurdish region will initiate sit-ins to implement Article 140 of the constitution and make a popular consensus on the fate of Kirkuk province.

In a special interview with Aswat al-Iraq, Speaker Kamal Karkuki demanded that the election commission should complete its preparations for convening the provincial elections in the region due in next October.

"The sit-ins shall be similar to those in Tunisia, Egypt and Yemen to oblige the other party to make the consensus on the fate of the province," he added.

"The road map to solve this problem is Article 140. We will accept no bargaining in this regard", he confirmed.
Kamal Kirkuki, Speaker of Kurdistan Parliament
Article 140 is one of the main pending question between the federal government and the Kurdish region, which implementation arouse great arguments all past years.

The article deals with the question in three stages: normalization, census and consensus for this oil-rich province.

On the provincial election on 10 October, 2011, he added that it was agreed to make the election in the three provinces of Erbil, Sulaimaniyah and Duhok at scheduled time.

On the US troops withdrawal, he advised that "all should think properly away from sentiments to select the best way for Iraq.
If Iraq needs these forces, let them stay, otherwise they will leave".

He rejected the accusations that the Kurdish parliament has no ability to solve problems, accusing Kurdish media to defame the fame of the parliament.

"Despite the opposition in the parliament, we are satisfied with its work, because all are dealing in a brotherly way and the laws are passed on the majority basis, which is, by itself, a democracy",www.ekurd.nethe added.

He concluded that "the parliament is a political and civilization conflict arena, where each member represents a party, but there is no violence."

The opposition in the Kurdish parliament occupies 35 seats out of 111 controlled by the main Kurdish parties, headed by Jalal Talabani and Massoud Barzani.

Barzani: Article 140 must be enacted if Kurdistan is to be i

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Sun Jun 05, 2011 9:05 am

Erbil, June 4 (AKnews)- Kurdistan Regional President Massoud Barzani said today that Kurds will not be interested in separation from Iraq as long as their rights, as laid out in the Iraqi constitution, are provided for.

masud barzaniBarzani was referring to article 140 of the constitution that makes provisions for the payment of reparations to Kurds forced from their homes under Saddam Hussein, a comprehensive census of ethnic groups and a referendum to decide if disputed areas should fall under the control of Kurdistan Regional Government.

The implementation was supposed to be completed by 2007, but political wranglings have brought it to a dead-lock, with the payment of some Kurdish families the only action taken.

“As long as Iraq is committed to the current constitution, we will not consider separating from Iraq and founding an independent state,” said Barzani in an interview with London-based paper, Sharq al-Awast.

However, there are “some violations” of the constitution, he said.

Barzani warned that if Baghdad wants wealthy Kurdistan to remain part of Iraq, the constitution needs to be “fully implemented”.

Today the Arab Council in Kirkuk – one of the disputed regions – said the article should be considered “dead and abolished”.

Kurds were forced out of their homes as part of Saddam Hussein’s arabization of multicultural areas. However, another significant minority, the Turkmen, say they believe there has been a Kurdification of the areas since 2003.

“We have confidence that Kirkuk is geographically and historically a Kurdish city but we accepted article 140 so that the issue would be settled through law,” said Barzani.

“But this does not mean that Kirkuk will be only for Kurds. We will make Kirkuk a paradigm for peaceful coexistence between ethnic and religious communities.”

The struggle for control of Kirkuk province is one of high stakes. 40 per cent of Iraq’s oil reserves lie within 60km of the capital city.

I hope these are just superficial statements. The Arabs will take advantage of Barzani's peaceful mentality.
