well my sister speaks Istanbul Turkish, she tells me only the Kurds mispronounce the k turning it to q.... there were even some Kurds in slemani they were pronouncing Cart as Qert.

no no, its not only kurds who pronounce Q. its shifts much from people to people. and most will pronounce sound between Q and K (a Q like KH/X), and when kurds learn it, they say jut Q. this is the reason kurds pronounce Q when they learn turkish. its only cities in west coast and greek influenced speakers like cypriot turks that pronounces not Q natively.

maybe the differece in spelling of your friend was due to the different dialect. hewleri for example say "mar" instead of "mal" (home)

 QQQ

Maybe that's the reason. I asked another friend Farman that's a Kurd from Slemani. He also said that ya can spell it ''qorban'' too. :?

My Türkmen friend from Kerkük that's been teaching me Sorani for the last 4 years told me that sacrifice=qorban a while ago. It did make me wonder why the Sorani spelling would be the same as in Tatar language for sacrifice. Anyway, now I'm realy wondering what else he translated for me that is incorrect... :(

Hhh why would you learn sorani from a turkman? By the way is there anywhere in this website where we could give sorani lessons for others to learn?

Because he speaks Kurdish and Turkish and it's easier to learn the language... Also my Kurd friend is busy a lot, but he sometimes helps me with my Kurdi too.
Yea, there are a few topics here that have some basic Sorani lessons.

aha ok.. by the way I asked this other brother too.. do you talk Kurdish a lot? because I have heard from people who have been to Diyarbakir and other Kurdish cities that it doesn't even feel Kurdish because they all talk to you in Turkish. Is that so? If I walk up to you in Turkey what language would you automatically use? Kurdish or Turkish?

oh you don't get it. you never pronounce qurban with a "K" when we say Kuban it is to make it sound cute :D (like how a child talks) no you always use "q" not "k" ;)

what? is kurdish widely spoken in Turkey? are you kidding? :) kurdish city administrations are arrested because unofficially use of kurdish. I dont live in Amed but i can say that almost all speak kurdish exklusive police, statemen. even ZAZAKI speakers have 3. biggest population among all kurds, while other dialects in south are forgotten for persian or arabic and sorani in central kurdistan.

and the Q, yes Q is kurdish. but not the hai, ain.
