Welcome to RBK! :D
Kubani makes me think of a fruit, apricot. I think also Kubani is a city in west Kurdistan.
Sorry I can't be of more help to ya...

It is kuRbani, which means 'sacrifice' or 'to sacrifice' like to die for some thing, in this case for love.

hehe no need.. well it must be spelled as qurban because of the (ق) sound.. but when we pronounce it as kuban turnig q to k and removing the r it is only to make it sound cute.. it is not something you would write in a book ;)

i noticed that often in UK in kurdish names replace the letter q with the letter k - but i think there is spelling mistake if we talked about the languge - i already learned that putting different letter can change the meaning of the word.

yep that is true like instead of qur'an it is koran.... but in the case of kubani it is correct because we pronounce it as a k

Well, it's also spelled Kurban in Türkiyө. Also the Azөri Türks spell it as Qurban.
My Türkmen friend from Kerkük that's been teaching me Sorani for the last 4 years told me that sacrifice=qorban a while ago. It did make me wonder why the Sorani spelling would be the same as in Tatar language for sacrifice. Anyway, now I'm realy wondering what else he translated for me that is incorrect... :(

coz in turkya letter Q is forbidden as very dangerous for the safty of turkish state.

maybe the differece in spelling of your friend was due to the different dialect. hewleri for example say "mar" instead of "mal" (home)

Hhh why would you learn sorani from a turkman? By the way is there anywhere in this website where we could give sorani lessons for others to learn?

in turkish there are no need for extra Q letter because K together with A,O, U,I is read as Q and K together with E, Ï, Ü, Ö is read as K.
