Kurds claim control of the more cities of Syria

ERBIL, July 21 (AKnews)- One day after freeing Kobani form the Baath regime agents and Syrian army, Kurds also took control over the government institutions in Afrin and Amuda cities as well as Derek and Cidêris districts on Friday.
Hawalti said that since early Friday evening war has broken out in the mainly Kurdish city of Qamislo.

Ismael Hama, Qamislo–based chief of Kurdish National Council of Syria (KNCS) told Hawali newspaper that Amuda has been completely freed and probably in a near future Qamislo will also be freed.

Kurdish People’s Defense Unions (YPG) said that the Kurdish citizens and the YPG units assaulted the government agencies in Afrin and Cidêris of Aleppo province and controlled them.

The locations were freed without any confrontations, according to Hawali.

The freed zones are now run by a joint committee of the KNCS and Western Kurdistan's People's Assembly which recently signed a unifying deal in Erbil.

Freeing Qamislo in Syria may take longer, says leader

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Sat Jul 21, 2012 12:07 pm

21/07/2012 13:20

ERBIL, July 21 (AKnews)- As president Bashar al-Assad's regime holds a strong position in Qamislo, freeing the mainly Kurdish city may take a while, a Kurdish leader said.

Kurdish forces are still advancing towards and into Qamislo, said Shalal Gado, a leader of the Leftist Kurdish Democrat Party of Syria.

Though the distance between Amuda and Qamislo is only 30km but due to "Assad's stronghold in Qamislo freeing the city may come late," Gado said.

The leader added the Western Kurdistan's People's Assembly and the Kurdish National Council of Syria (KNCS) have taken control of the government agencies in the areas the Baath regime agents have evacuated.
During the past two days Kurdish forces assaulted the government institution in Kobani, Afrin and Amuda.

Kurdistan flags were hoisted over the cities after the security forces and Baath agents left without any confrontations.

Since the Syrian regime has withdrawn the bulk of its forces into Damascus, the Kurdish forces have not face much difficulty in freeing the cities, said Ali Shamdin, a member of KNCS.

According to (Direk) website which is based in WK, yesterday the 650 trained Peshmerga who were dispatched from Duhok could not enter into Direk bcoz they were stopped by PKK who have surrounded the district, the commander of the Peshmerga did not enter Direk to avoid escalations with PKK but they are now awaiting a command from higher above.
