The sentence which had been pronounced by the Court of Hewlêr has condemned Kamal Sayyid Qadir at twice 15 years of prison for 2 different offences, then 30 years. it is important to precise that the complaints against him, and that the prosecutor has considered as serious, had not been lodged by President Masud Barzani, nor from the Kurdish governement, but from the Governorate of Hewlêr and from a service of “National Security and Safety” independant from the Home Office.
The charges for which Kamal Sayyid Qadir had been arrested and judged are not “insult and defamation”, as it had been published, especially by Amnesty International, but no more less than “espionage and plot against the safety and security of state”. Then a warrant had been issued for Kamal Sayyid Qadir’s arrest, and the Kurdish police seized him and he came in Kurdistan.
So what could we think of the judgement and the reliability of the investigation ? According to what I heard from people who were in touch with the man, I think personnally that the guy was more “odd” and “hotheaded” than really dangerous. But the Court of Hewlêr thought the contrary. As in Kurdistan you could not be condemned to more than 25 years of prison, the totality of both penalties should be reduced to 25 years at least.
Of course, we shall discontinue all the new developments of the case…
Hi !
Unfortunately the author of the above item have not stated his or hername, but simply have tried to justified a harsh sentence which is not concievable by any standard of international value.
First of all Dr. Kemal Seyd Qadir which has been living in exile in recent years never revealed things which could be classified as “State secrets”, All he has written have been a reaction to the way he was treated while teachung in Hewler and that is right that in accordance to kurdish norms he had used “Bad” language against Mr.Nesud Barzani and Mr. Mesrur Barzani, none of which deserve imprisonement, because they are simply insults.
Should people be sentenced to long term imprisonment just for insulting people in Power. There is a similar case, A man Called Heme Said Hassan who boasts to be a kurdish intellectuals has written harsher than Dr.Kemal Seyd Qadir about Mr. Jelal Talebani , he is in Hewler now , why the security forces in Hewler do not habd him over to security office in Suleymani to give answer to what he had called Mr. Talebani for.
I personally do not approve of Dr. Kemal Seyd Qadir’s none acceptable words against Mr.Barzanis, but I do not approve his arrest and condemnation either.
Free KEMAL SEYD QADIR NOW !
I never said that I agree with the sentence or these accusations (they sound really fantasists) I just expose the facts and my opinion about that cas : I don’t think that Kamal Sayyid Qadir hasd the “profile” of a dangerous agent.
[…] Second item: There are several trials that are ongoing that the Kurdish blogosphere are buzzing about. The first is Dr. Kamal Sayd Qadir who is being held by the Kurdistan Regional Government in Iraqi Kurdistan for crimes that include “disgracing the Kurdish government and it’s struggles”. This brings out issues of credibilty of the KRG asking neighboring states to grant free speech to their Kurds, but denying the right to its own Kurds. While this has been covered most notably by the blog the Is-Ought problem, other bloggers have weighed in this issue including Hiwa, Rasti and Roj Bash. A lot of comparisons between this trial and the upcoming trial of Turkish author Orhan Pamuk have been drawn. […]
I wonder irespective of Dr.Kemal Kerim ( Kemal Seyd Qadir)’s
case , in which law book in this universe such harsh and long sentence has been anticipated for “Crimes” related to the personal dignity of people in executive position ?
This is a question that above all the minister responsible for human rights issues in Hewler administration must give an anaswer to.
The other day he was questioned by the VOA-kurdish service and he sounded to be none-affected by this long sentence of 30 years, at the same time he did not clearly talked about charges against dr.kerim either.
One thing is clear the case of Dr Kemal Kerim ( Kemal Seyd Qadir) is a test for kurdish rule. At least they could refrain from giving out verdicts of such nature , at least whil the trial of Mr.Seddam Hussein still is in progress.
There must be extra un- pleasant for adherents of freedom of speech in Southern Kurdistan , to hear this harsh sentence against Kemal ,at the same time won’t be sure about if the question of Helebce and Anfal Campaign will be forgotten in the shadow of what is discussed concerning Dujail.
Hi, I want to read Dr. Kemal’s two articles that are the basis for the sentence, which by the way is outrageous and unacceptable. I am northern Kurd and can’t read sorani. Do the articles exist in English or latin Kurmanji? I’d appriciate any help with this regard. Thanks. You are we come to contact me on my e-mail rojda777@hotmail.com

It’s not only about the 2 articles, this case has been going on from 1997 until now.
This man is sentence for “espionage and plot against the safety and security of stateâ€.
because he has been working against the Kurdish government and i think they know allot that we don’t know.
25years for dangering Kurdistans national security is fair enough.
“It’s not only about the 2 articles, this case has been going on from 1997 until now”
Could you tell us more about that ? We welcome any kind of serious information about the case.
Sorry Piling but the information i got was only by mouth, my source is with the KRG nordic representation, they should have published a letter but i can’t seem to find it online.
