Friday people don’t work. In the park next to the Sheraton, families come to have fun, smoking narguileh, or just drinking and eating on the grass. Teens with fashionale skirt and trousers with huge belt, with sticky hairs, seem to be going out of a 30s Hollywood movie. 2 boys around 13, smoking a narguileh with a very serious and concentrated air, make us laughing.
Later, big pizza in Ankawa, the Christian district, where the church is decorated with a huge cross illuminated all the night, like a fir tree of Christmas. IN any case, restaurants in Southern Kuridstan are better than in North and meals are big.
Today, hell in ministery : chatting with the peshmerga and some workers who are there though on Saturday officials don’t work, sharing a soda with the councellor of the minister, being obliged under threatening to swallow a cake of Mosul, smoking a cigarette always under threatening (saying that you don’t smoke is absolutely useless), being a hostage in Kurdistan is a hard life…
At the end of afternoon, visited a modern supermarket, very expansive for the country, with products from Turkey and Gulf countries or from Europe.
A supermarket like a Museum kitsch concerning furnitures and clothing, but remembering how was Hewlêr in 1994, I am so happy to see them entering in a “Consummer society”.
Moreover, all youths are frustrated and want to leave, because of the failures of a half-libertarian half corrupted, in which they can find a place if they don’t belong to the “right” families, while Arabs run here, and Asian workers, and of course Kurds from Turkey : a strange melting-pot.
