hoping to be seen by the world, at the first day our site was in the 15th page of Google result index, but today, after one year it is in the first page of Google result page, and hundred of thousands of people have read Kurdistan’s message.

How Google Bomb Works ?
Making a Google bomb is one the cutest and most peaceful ways of protesting in the modern world. By Google’s algorithm, those websites which have been linked the more by other websites will have a higher place and rank in the result page.

For example, guess there is a site full of monkey pictures.
And then 10000 other websites link to that website by the title “G.W Bush”
And guess that G.W Bush’s official website has been linked by 5000 websites [less than monkey’s site]
in this case, if you search for G.W .Bush’s name in Google, you will see monkey’s picture site in the first line of Google result page instead of his official site.

I remember during the US Presidential election democrats had done such a thing , even though in that election I didn’t like Democrats to win, I liked their way of protest , and I kept in mind that this is a cute peaceful way of protest !

Are the Google Bomb Protests effective?
Yes, indeed! Let me tell you another example : about 2 years ago, the National Geographic Center in America, changed the word “Persian Gulf” in their maps to “Arabian Gulf”
while historically the name of that gulf has been Persian Gulf. This caused Persian blogger’s protest, and more than 36 000 Persian Bloggers linked to http://arabian-gulf.info
and you could see this site in the first line of google if you had searched for Arabian Gulf :
The Gulf You Are Looking For Does Not Exist. Try Persian Gulf.

This made news in the medias, and Persians large protest obliged the National Geographic Center to publish an announcement apologizing Persian people for that “mistake” and the word Persian Gulf again was mentioned in their maps.

How about Kurdistan Google Bomb?

One year ago before this site be started , the name of my homeland “Kurdistan” was pretty unknown to the people of the world and they used to call my homeland : Northern Iraq, South Eastern Turkey, North Eastern Syria , Western Iran…
I remember some politicians (Like Rumsfeld ,…) who had used Kurdistan word , receiving official warning of Turkey (the country in which the word Kurdistan is forbidden)

And it was pretty sad for me , that Kurdistan was being called long ugly names that didnt contain Kurdistan , The word which has been the name of my homeland, for at least hundreds of years .

Some medias systematicaly avodied using Kurdistan word , for example in their news about Kurdish parties in Iraq , instead of saying ‘Kurdistan democratic party’ ,they used to say (or are still saying) ‘Kurdish democratic party !’

So I thought Google bomb may be a good way to show my protest , and with help of other friends we started our project. We needed other sites to link to the Google Bomb and thankfully many sites from all over Kurdistan [Turkish/Iranian/Iraqi …Occupied Kurdistan] linked to this Google bomb , I can claim this Google bomb has been a symbol of unity among all Kurds with different dialects, different religions , different political views…. everybody felt like to donate a link to raise our voice . there was also plenty of non-kurdish supporters that we warmly thank them too .

And today after one year , http://northerniraq.info has become a popular platform for all Kurds everywhere , which contains a great discussion forum , Roj Bash Blog [this blog], a complete collection of Kurdistan Maps , complete List of Kurdistan Blogs, a section for collecting Kurdish lyrics , a section for practing Kurdish language , and….and day by day and more people are contributing to sites being hosted here .

During this year, many of those who don’t like the word Kurdistan or didn’t like our success, several times attacked to us or hacked our website and each time we came back stronger with more powerful security system and more faith to our work .
there are still many who boil of Kurdistan word , but our peaceful cute error page will remain on internet .

During this year we have seen our effect on the world, and today more medias try to use Kurdistan word than before and we can see that even more politicans use Kurdistan word [for example the first time President Bush used Kurdistan word in his meeting with President Barzani]
