A KURDISH man who attacked two doormen at a Worcester city bar has been jailed for 15 months and warned that he could be deported. Hauraz Karimi, of Ripon Road, Ronkswood, Worcester, pleaded guilty at Worcester Crown Court to three charges of assault at Lloyds Bar, Crown Passage, Broad Street. Prosecutor Paul Whitfield said that on February 12 door staff had their attention drawn to Karimi and his friends who were making remarks to a group of girls.
When doorman Pavel Kraus tried to escort Karimi from the bar he became abusive and threatening. He punched Mr Kraus in the chin and eye, but was overpowered and forced to the floor. The 21-year-old then vowed to return and stab him.
Other doormen saw what had happened and Antonio Gouveia tried to restrain Karimi. He responded by kicking Mr Gouveia in the face, fracturing his eye socket.
When police arrived, an officer had to grab Karimi in a bear hug and take him to the floor. “It was an unpleasant and unsavoury scene and it dampened the night out for many people,” said Mr Whitfield.
Jason Aris, defending, said Karimi had no convictions in England or in his own country. He accepted that his behaviour had been disgraceful, but he could not cope with his intake of alcohol. He had embarrassed his friends and family and had not had a drink since. Judge Robert Juckes QC said the doormen had tried to calm the situation, but Karimi had been the aggressor.
His flying kick in the face of Mr Gouveia had left him unable to work for several months. Drink was not a mitigation for Karimi’s actions.
