Sorani, Gorani, Kurmanji

PostAuthor: JwanAu » Fri Jul 20, 2012 10:12 am

Hello everybody, I have just registered today because I have a lot of questions about the kurdish language.

I am half kurd, and I would like to learn more about my fathers origins in order to be closer to him and understand him more.
I dont speak or read any kurdish, I just know some basic words. (sorry)

My father didn't really focus on speaking kurdish with me when I was younger, he focused more on me, learning my mothers native language. I'm not close with my father now, but I'm trying to get in contact with him more, I hope you will help me, since I miss him a lot.

I'm sorry if my questions are ignorant, stupid or hard to answer, but I hope you will understand me:) I'm just a beginner...

From my understanding the kurdish language is made up from many different sub languages like sorani, gorani, kurmanji, badini etc

Can someone, (i know it's a difficult question), tell me more about the fundamental differences between these languages? Or maybe some useful things I should know? I have already tried to find information on wikipedia but it didn't help that much:(

Thank you so much, I hope you can help me!

Badini is a special sort of Kurmanji. Kurdish languages are Sorani, Hewrami, Kurmanji, Kirdki/Zazaki and Feyli/leki.

Hehe, I know it will be a difficult and long journey for me to learn kurdish :-D I just wanted to know some differences (also culturally) between these languages...

Unfortunately my father told me very little about where he is from, only that he was born in Baghdad. Is that information helpful?

sorry JwanAu Xan , it is really hard to tell with all these names .

Kurmaji and Sorani are the main dialects and the rest is irrelevent in terms of communications . To learn both you will have to start with kurmanji Then Sorani . doing it the other way does not work and do not ask me why :-D .by the way Sorani is much easier to learn than kurmanji based on my experience .

Kurdish can be learned online if you really want to . We have a mexican member ( Sus ) who suprisingly speaks /write /read kurdish fairly well . So yes , you can learn kurdish online ,if you have kurdish friends and you are in love with Kurdistan or may be....in love with Kurdish boy :-D
