then why did my nephew had to learn fars at school?
he is in a university in kurdistan now.
when i asked they say yes we did get these courses.
they all grew up in kurdistan they do not go to private schools.

there is "no farsi" schools in kurdistan but only few weeks ago i read an article that a private "teaching course" for persian language will be open i read it on Rudaw.

maybe he did "persian language" in that private Uni and pls find out "what Uni" he did go to bcoz no government Uni allows arabic, turkish, persian languages to be taught .

all government Uni and schools are taught in Kurdish as a main language and then you can "pick" one of those 3 languages a subject to pass your year and it starts from year 10 in high school and not at Unis.

but pls give me the name of the Uni he studied persian , which i am sure it wont be no government Uni ;) .

i don't know the name of the university he is in.
i'll ask him when he gets on again
and will tell you but he did get these courses.
and that school is new it really doesn't change my mind.
since he already got these courses before,
maybe it's a persian school but they do not learn these languages out of nowhere

well ask your mum how and where she learned farsi , i am 100% during saddam era farsi was not taught in Kurdistan including kerkuk ;).

and yes ask him which Uni we went to , ill guarantee it now it is a non-government Uni and he probably done farsi as a course on the side but even though there is no Uni in kurdistan teaching the entire unit you pick in persian, arabic or turkish. 8) .

and now let me ask you a Q, are you happy that we are been taught our enemy languages on our lands while they in their lands deprive and ban our languages !? you seem to be happy they are speaking these languages via these newly opened course  .

so i will repeat myself again , there is no government school that allows any languages except kurdish as a main language , its kurdish and English that are compulsory and and they rest are picked as an optional subject , and its not bound to those 3 languages , there is Swedish , German and french taught as well in our government schools and unis .

@SamBurhan, its not truth what you say. The new genration in south Kurdistan dont can speak Arabic. And that they teach persian and turkish is completely wrong. You confusing that with some privat schools.

If Kurds want to learn other languages, they can leran English or French, but not Turkish Persian or Aabic, which they use only to assimilate the Kurds. Go and demand Kurdish schools in Iran, Turkey or in arab states, you will see what they will make with you.

PS: Tourists in Iraq’s Kurdistan criticize non-use of Arabic, new generation of Kurds don’t speak Arabic :-D

i'm not so sure about that.
i have many relatives in southern kurdistan who can also speak farsi and turkish in kirkuk.
many southern kurds can speak these languages even without going to school.
kurdish are the first languages but it's your own choice what you want to learn further,

I know this is off topic (I'm sorry  ) but while we're at it, I can share my knowledge about the school system.
Nowadays Arabic is taught less and less at schools. Many of the young generations (including my cousins) do have little knowledge of Arabic, however, they aren't able to hold a proper conversation with an Arab-speaking person. In exchange for this, English is taught more and more at schools. Especially when those students go to universities, you see that they speak English perfectly. In the past, during saddam's era, Arabic was the most important language. All the older generations speak Arabic very well, for example, my parents. Even when the older generations spoke Kurdish, they used many Arabic words. Nowadays this isn't the case anymore.

However, some secondary (but also primary) schools teach the students other languages as well. For example, my cousin in hawler also has German lessons. This really depends on the schools, sometimes it is the case that someone has knowledge of a language and decides to teach it at a school.
