Eactly my point bro Kurds who deny Saladin being Kurdish or that he isn't an icon of the Kurds, or atleast one icon of the Kurds is just plain ignorant. I mean I'd put Saladin up the top with Cyraxeres. No one can deny he was a great military strategist. Funny thing is we actually gave Islam a good name back then, if it wasn't for Saladin's mercy to the crusaders, then history would be different today I thin.

yes he did fight for islam "then" not for kurds , but what these guys are saying is , we can now use it to our advantage for him been a kurd , and i can see the logic behind it . i once met an old man he was from lebanon , he started speaking arabic to me i stopped him and said sorry my friend but i am no arab , he looked very surprised and said "what are you then" i told him i was kurdish he then said "your a descendant of salahadini ayubi, it is an honor to meet you my son".
see even though he fought for islam "then" but his kurdishness "today" his kurdish root is starting to be used more widely which is good for us .
p.s. the Feylis put up the picture of imam ali on their walls who is an arab , i think muslim kurds should start using pictures of Salahadin and be proud of it since he was a kurd , as majority of our society are muslims anyway . just my 2 cents thought.

Yeah, I know. Back then, Islam was probably the most liberal/free religion (compared to other religions/countries). And that was greatly thanks to Saladin, because he showed mercy to his prisoners and didn't kill them (exactly like Peshmerga). So we can conclude: the religion of Islam was only a 'peacefull' (no religion is 'peacefull') religion when a Kurd was ruling because even then, 1000 years ago, a Kurd was/is more civilized then most Arab muslims today...
And yeah he was a great leader. Everyone sympathized him, even their enemy.

Very true. Though I don't know if you know this, but Lebanese Arabs are different from other Arabs, they are more respectable towards Kurds. Even Palestianians feel our pain. Though it is a shame not every Kurd conducts him or herself like Saladin did, if you know what I mean and to what Kurds I talk about.
Response to your PS: Yes it would be great to have pictures of Saladin on our walls, the problem is I don't think anyone manufactors potraits of him on mass. When I saw Saladin's picture, he looked like me and my uncle(in my avatar picture). His long sharp nose, hawk eyes and olive skinned.
Oh bro it is not just Feylis who put pictures of Imam Ali, other shias do it aswell, and so do Alevis who are also technically a shia sub-branch. Plus it is not based on his ethnicity, merely religon.
I think we should also try and get potraits of Cyaxeres our great Median kind. Just look at Persians who use Cyrus the great on their walls.( He wasn't even Persian, he was half Kurdish)
