Too early for such things, because we still haven't reached to an agreement about the disputed areas. This means Kurdistan does not have an official border with iraq yet.

(Rudaw.net) - 2010

A group of 7 international students studying to establish KRG's Aviation in Qatar, Rudaw magazine reports .

In an interview with (Rudaw) magazine, the students stated their main purpose, which is for IKU to allow KRG to establish a Kurdish international independent Aviation, stressing that the main conditions set by IKU for any country to operate its own independent Aviation is to have experienced pilots and engineers , and that they have also purchased few airplanes .

Jamil Ali one of the students said "we were 1st accepted in Doha's pilot college in sept 2008 , we want to prove that Kurds just like any other nation in the world can show their skills and capability in every aspect of life and we can be very dedicated people to our work". he stated that him and his fellow colleagues are very keen on completing their major and bring the degrees back home to serve Kurdistan region.

Ali said that KRG is looking after the full cost of their studies and that they are very thankful for the help and support . he also stated " there has been a lot of fresh interests from Kurdistan wanting to follow our path, and we will support and show them the way which will make it way easier for them" . Jamil told (Rudaw) that their group is at the front of all the other students in the college and that one of them 'Mahamad Ali Osman' came first with a degree of 98/100 in the whole college last year.

Hajar Ahmed who is studying engineering in airplane systems says "we are very grateful for what the KRG has offered us so far".

Its worth mentioning these 7 students will graduate in 16 months and the new applicants are to enroll once they've finished and returned home.

Well beutiful pictures kek Alan but i think the colours of the airlines are not good kesk, zor u ser and a kurdish flag will be better and a better logo, and when we got independance from Iraq KRG should own the Kurdistan Airlines then there will come money to the company and our goals should be that the Kurdistan Airlines in the future cant be in Star Alliance group.

Establishing a civil aviation agency in Kurdistan

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Sun May 06, 2012 4:06 am

Image

05/05/2012

According to the an interview , Sulaimani's airport manager had with Knwe newspaper , who had suggested few great key points to add to the future of kurdistan civil aviation system , here are some more points i would like to add :

1. Council of ministers 7th cabinet , must urgently and without any further delay, implement the legislation of transport department, Because Kurdistan parliament has passed the law in Nov 2011 and the President has signed it , which says: An agency in aviation for Kurdistan must be established under the transport department .

2. According to the international laws , every international airport must be under the direct jurisdiction of a civil aviation agency , therefore both Erbil and Sulaimani airports must fall under this general agency.

3. Unification of both Kurdistan airports under one civil aviation agency which will and can put up a good fight against the iraqi aviation , in order to gain more concessions and expand the authority to control the airspace of Kurdistan .

4. We can benefit from the aviation courses available in various countries and providing the proper budget for such efforts.

5. Allocating proper advisers in aviation system for the transport department , and to those been employed in the aviation civil system , for both civil and military aviation .

Also all the contracts signed to buy aircraft must fall under kurdistan's proper authorities, and prevent "private persons" from taking over such contracts , they should be managed by Council of ministries , Finance minister , planning ministry and they must take these experts with them :

Advanced Pilots
Aviation Engineers
Aviation logistics

Aviation logistic expert
Azad Ibrahim Shalli

Kurdish man to open airplane factory in Kurdistan

August 27, 2010

ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — Nariman Anwar, a 33 year old from Erbil, is a man who had a dream. From a young age, he desperately wanted to build planes. After he began aged 14, building a radio-controlled model, he has gone on to build a total of seven aircraft, completely to his own designs and specifications.

Known to his friends as ‘Nariman The Pilot’ two of his designs have taken to the skies with him at the controls. In 2007, Nariman was given the Youth Of The Year Award for his great creative capacity by the Kurdistan Ministry of Youth and Sport. News of his feat even reached the Kurdistan Regional Government’s President, Massoud Barzani, who recently arranged a personal audience with the aircraft builder.

‘The President asked me how he could support talented people in the region,’ says Nariman. ‘I asked him to open a centre for people with talent in the region.
The aircraft of Nariman Anwar. niqash org
I know so many talented people in Kurdistan who just need a boost to fulfil it.’

Nariman is one person who continued to pursue his dream despite facing many obstacles. He never went to university because of his family’s poverty and instead joined his father’s company as an apprentice electrician.

There were many other problems, too. His very first plane was built just a year after Iraqi troops were driven out of Kuwait. He continued on his path throughout the sanctions period and onwards after the US-led invasion of 2003.

Despite Iraq remaining under the UN’s Chapter 7 provisions, which have hampered his progress, Nariman has produced two flying aircraft, the Zodiac and his latest, the slightly worryingly-named Stall 710SH. He was able, at great expense, to obtain many parts from abroad with the help of the KRG, from countries including the USA, France, Germany and the Ukraine.

‘Making planes cost me a lot of money. I sold all my possessions, including my house. In the beginning, no on helped me with money,’ says Nariman.

‘When people noticed that I was successful, people like the Erbil Governor, Nawzad Hadi, did, as well as a couple of prominent businessmen. Now, the President [Massoud Barzani] is my biggest support.’

The planes that Nariman made went through hours of testing on the ground and were subject to numerous approvals from the Kurdish Interior Ministry along with aviation authorities before they could take to the sky. Nariman, however always had complete faith in his designs and was confident they would fly safely.

‘I have never felt any danger when flying,’ he boasts. ‘I’m not scared of taking my planes into the air. If I were scared, I would not make them in the first place.’

He has rarely suffered any worrying moments while flying his designs but it has still taken some time to gain the full confidence of his family and friends, who, in the early days, felt nervous about joining him for flights.

‘When I first built my plane, people were afraid to fly with me. They doubted the quality but now they are much less scared,’ he reveals.

While it is understandable that the homemade aircraft might have put some people off in the beginning, Nariman built his skills on courses with some of the world’s top engineers in huge companies such as Bosch in Germany and Aston Martin,http://www.ekurd.neta British sports car manufacturer. He has also worked in Turkey and at the Zinth Air Plane Manufacturing Company in China. The KRG President is helping Nariman to continue his progress.

‘When President Barzani visited Germany recently, he asked Airbus to open a training course for me. Soon I will go back to Germany to be trained by Airbus for six months,’ Nariman explains.

The course will enable Nariman to bring back even more skills to his small team of assistants who have worked with him so far on plane building. He currently has four apprentices, all of whom he has tried to develop as manufacturers in their own right. Nariman’s ambitions, though, extend beyond continuing to build homemade aircraft with his small team. He hopes to move onwards and start building an aircraft manufacturing factory in Harir, a sub-district of Erbil.

‘About 150 people will work in the factory,’ he says. ‘A university degree is not essential but it is important that everyone working there can show their talent, that they have energy and a real desire to work.’

With the help of the KRG, who hope to use Nariman’s aircraft in agriculture, tourism and for their police force, Nariman hopes that the new factory will help foster a manufacturing industry in Kurdistan and also make a name for the region as home to a genuinely creative population. He is designing aircraft that he hopes are specifically suited to the Kurdish environment.

‘We have a few slightly different designs for Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) aircraft. The reason I decided to build STOL aircraft is because they work particularly well with Kurdistan’s geography. We will build two-, four- and six-seat planes mainly for use by the government.’

The young innovator has come a long way since building his ‘small, red, radio-controlled plane’ back in 1992. He now hopes that his resilience and relentless determination will make things easier for future generations of designers, who will not have to go through the same hardships as him.

‘Here in Kurdistan, you only get support and encouragement when you are already successful. There needs to be more help for people trying to get started,’ he advises. ‘Talented people must never quit when trying to fulfill their dreams. When I told people I was going to build and fly my own plane, people told me I was crazy. Now, of course, they congratulate me.’

As Iraq opens up to the rest of the world and as more individual examples like Nariman appear to prove the possibilities that exist for Iraqis, a real opportunity will grow for Iraq’s manufacturing industries and reputation for innovation to take-off.

DUHOK / Duhok Airport Project

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Wed May 30, 2012 1:50 am

Image

Ternir Group USA LLC, an American-owned company (“Ternir Group”), and the Ministry of Transportation (the “MoT”) of the Kurdistan Regional Government (the “KRG”) are currently in negotiations that are expected to lead to an agreement for the development and construction of the first international airport to be located within the Governorate of Duhok (the “Project”). The parties to the negotiations have allocated approx. 700-1000 hectares of publicly-owned land for the Project, in a location which is just outside of the city of Duhok, the regional capital. Furthermore, the MoT has identified sources of preliminary public funding for the Project in the amount of at least 10% of the projected construction costs. Ternir Group has been invited by the MoT to assemble a team of investors, developers, construction & concessionaire companies and related service providers, the purpose of which will be to finance, build and operate the Airport on a concession basis.

The Duhok Governorate is one of the three constituent provinces of Iraq that make up the autonomous Kurdish Region of Northern Iraq. It has a population of over 2 million people, which is growing rapidly due to the return of displaced Kurds from other parts of Iraq, natural increase (50% of Kurdistan’ population is under the age of 20) and continued migration of Iraqi Arabs to superior job prospects and security in the north. The Duhok region is becoming a significant tourist destination within Iraq, due to its milder climate (in comparison with the rest of the country), high, snow-covered mountains, as well as numerous historical sites. The region also benefits from Iraqi Kurdistan’s growing oil & gas exploration industries (up to 30 large-scale concession agreements have already been signed between the KRG and foreign oil companies), its strategic location as a hub for trade between Turkey, Syria and the rest of Iraq, as well as increased investment in the retail, manufacturing and service sectors since 2003, most of which comes from nearby Turkey.

The Project takes into consideration the significant state of flux which characterizes the current economic situation within Iraqi Kurdistan, and, in particular, the Governorate of Duhok, after nearly a decade of strong economic growth. Currently, MoT planners and Ternir Group have agreed on a preliminary Project concept which balances the concerns of building large infrastructure projects into new markets, with the conviction that current demand is strong enough to warrant a small, one-terminal airport designed to accommodate domestic as well as international flights.

***************************
The Project currently foresees the construction of a 12,000 sqm terminal at a cost of approx. $50 million. The terminal will have 10 check-in desks, immigration facilities, press, tobacco, souvenirs & duty-free shops restaurant, cafes, mini market, bureau de change, banks, mosque, a modern baggage-handling system, and will feature 4 gates and/or direct bus access for both arrivals and departures. The main runway for the airport will be designed to handle medium-range aircraft, such as the Airbus A-320 (requiring a length of at least 2000 meters), and will have a cost of approx. $40 million. The airport will also have a state-of-the-art control tower, which will house the aerodrome control, approach radar control, avionics equipment, a workshop and other various rooms, ground lighting (AGL) equipment room and staff welfare facilities. The construction of the tower alone is expected to cost $6 million. Aviation equipment should cost another $4 million.

The Project is expected to take approx. three to five years to build.

Erbil international airport

Its runway is one of the longest in the Middle East and the fifth on the world level, after China, Russia, South Africa and the U.S. respectively.

The airport, designed by a British company and constructed by a Turkish company over 27,000 square meters, can operate 150 flights per day.
