Iraqi Kurdistan threatens to declare independence ‎ 22.3.201

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 11:37 am

ERBIL-Hewlêr, Kurdistan region 'Iraq', — The President of the autonomous Kurdistan Region in northern Iraq, Massoud Barzani has threatened to declare independence from the central government in Baghdad, Iranian press TV reported.

Speaking in the region’s capital of Erbil on Tuesday, the president of Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said the partnership that had built the national unity government in the country was now “completely non-existent and has become meaningless," AFP reported.

He also said that the oil-rich Kirkuk had to be incorporated into a future independent Kurdistan.

Diplomats regard the dispute as one of the greatest threats to Iraq's long-term stability.

Barzani's threat comes amid strained relations between him and the central government since he gave sanctuary to the fugitive Iraqi Vice President Tariq al-Hashemi in December.

Hashemi is wanted in Baghdad for alleged involvement in terror activities. The Kurdistan region has defied calls to hand him over to Baghdad for trial.

Kurdistan Independence: A threat or a right? ‎ 22.3.2012

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Thu Mar 22, 2012 11:40 am

By Kawa Ahmad — ekurd.net

On March 21, 2012, state-run Iranian PRESSTV channel posted an article on its website under the caption of "Iraqi Kurdistan threatens to declare independence".

According to AFP, Kurdistan Regional Government President KRG Barzani has characterized the current national unity government in Baghdad as “ utterly non-existent and meaningless”.

The author has repeated utilized the word "threat". "Diplomats regard the dispute as one of the greatest threats to Iraq's long-term stability" is an example.

Before venting any views on the subject matter, I deem it extremely necessary to remind the author that his article’s heading should be first rectified. Barzani does not require to threaten to declare Kurdish independence. Independence is our legitimate and inherent right and we, as a nation with a distinct language, culture, religious belief and ethnicity, reserve every right to hold a referendum and determine our own political destiny. We are no less than the Iranians, 7 Turkish-speaking states or 22 Arabs countries in the region. Self-determination is the right of every nation, including the 40 million stateless Kurds!

Secondly, there are no motives for Kurds to continue offering sacrifices in a bid to preserve the territorial integrity and sovereignty of a contrived nation and country. It has been ten years since Kurds have been fruitlessly struggling to squarely mediate among sectarian Shiites and Sunnies groups to resolve their incessant discrepancies. Kurds have set aside their own vital agendas for the sake of other uncompromising Iraqi constituencies.

As far incorporation of Kurdish Kirkuk city into KRG is concerned, Kirkuk's dilemmas should be resolved in accordance with the agreed upon constitutional provisions. Should any party attempt to dishonor its part of commitment,www.ekurd.net KRG reserves every right to take unilateral action or decision. President Barzani has been prodding hard for peace and dialogue.

Barzanis observations reflect the aspiration of the 99% of Kurdish population in South Kurdistan. Had he acted as per his people will, Kurdistan should have been detached from Iraq back in 2003.

When it comes to securing Kurdish national interests, even the opposition in Kurdistan has a united voice and stance. Nawshirwan Mustafa has mentioned earlier that formation of any independent Kurdish state can only be achieved through national cohesion, a united army and an all-inclusive parliament.

Iraqi Kurds eager to announce state, activist suggests confederation

PNA - Kurds in Iraq's Kurdistan region underlined that the dream to have a state of their own has become closer than ever, urging their leaders to unify their stances and to include other Kurds-majority areas to the region before declaring the independence.

Others believe that to have an independent state you have to get strong economic, political, social and institutional basis, as well as guaranteeing the support from major countries to protect the new state from foreign dangerous and threats, stressing no state for Kurds is possible without a recognition from the rest of the world.

"The dream to have a state of their own is so close, and we are about to made an official referendum on the right to self-determination, and there were some rumors on announcing the state in the Kurdish New Year Newroz, but this did not happen," Nawat Hama, 24m, from Erbil, said.

"Maybe the leaders did not agree on a certain time to declare the independence, but we are sure that this will happen soon, as all circumstances are appropriate, as we enjoy a great economic and political development in the region, and we enjoy foreign support through the consulates in the region," he added.

"Declaring the Kurdistan state is something we have been dreaming of for decades and have been waiting for for years, but the Kurdistan Regional Government has to prepare the necessary infrastructure and to use the natural resources, develop agriculture and industry as well as all economic sectors," Shafan Mohammad, 38, from Erbil told Aswat al-Iraq news agency.

"It is difficult to declare independence now, because of Iran's and Turkey's stances, which could interfere militarily, and we import from the two states everything we need, and I do not think the leadership of Kurdistan will take this step," Mohammad Khorshed 44, from Duhok, said.

For his part, Mohammad Amir, 41, an activist called on Kurdish leaders to declare independence but within a confederation with Iraq, noting that such a step could be agreed on with the Iraqi authorities through convincing the leaders of the National Alliance with that solution instead of the separation.

He underscored that the step could prevent any strong reaction toward the new state.

Kurd leader Massoud Barzani hinted on Tuesday at a possible break with Iraq's unity government, complaining that premier Nouri al-Maliki was monopolising power and building an army loyal only to him.

His remarks raised the rhetoric between his autonomous regional government in Erbil and the central government in Baghdad, with several key disputes festering between the two sides.

Barzani said the partnership that built a national unity government formed at a meeting he had hosted was now "completely non-existent and has become meaningless."

"There is an attempt to establish a one-million-strong army whose loyalty is only to a single person," Barzani, president of Kurdistan, said in a speech in Erbil, according to an English transcript.

He claimed that Maliki and the government were "waiting to get F-16 combat planes to examine its chances again with the Peshmerga (Kurdish forces)," referring to a government order for 36 warplanes from the United States.

"Where in the world can the same person be the prime minister, the chief of staff of the armed forces, the minister of defense, the minister of interior, the chief of intelligence and the head of the national security council?" he asked.

Barzani said that while he was committed to an alliance with Iraq's majority Shiites, he was not committed to one with Maliki.

Barzani continued, "We are committed to our alliance with the Shiites but not with this group of people who have monopolised power and with their policies have even marginalised other Shiites."

"It is time to say enough is enough.

The current status of affairs in unacceptable to us and I call on all Iraqi political leaders to urgently try to find a solution.

Otherwise, we will return to our people and will decide on whatever course of action that our people deem appropriate."

Since 1991, the Kurds of Iraq achieved self-rule in part of the country. Today's teenagers are the first generation to grow up under Kurdish rule. Most Kurds don’t speak Arabic, especially the younger generation, the 2nd language in Kurdistan after Kurdish is English language. In the new Iraqi Constitution, it is referred to as Kurdistan region.

Kurdistan region has all the trappings of an independent state -- its own constitution, its own parliament, its own flag, its own army, its own border patrol, its own national anthem, its own education system, its own International airports, even its own stamp inked into the passports of visitors, a large number of foreign consulates and embassies are located in Kurdistan's capital, Erbil.

MIT : US urged turkey to recognise a kurdish state

PostAuthor: alan131210 » Sun Mar 25, 2012 2:57 pm

ok here we go :D :D :D

Turkey intelligence agency MIT announced through a Turkish newspaper , that USA has asked Turkey to recognize and agree to a kurdish state in KRG.

(Bani Jakh) a Turkish newspaper reported that a source from MIT told them about the news and it says " David Petraeus , American intelligence agency leader has urged turkey to agree and recognize a kurdish state in Kurdistan region of Iraq"

The source has confirmed that David Petraeus has also met with Erdogan on 12th of March and has officially urged Ankara to recognize a kurdish state in KRG . Petraeus told Turkish officials the reason for this request is because the Central Baghdad has started its anti campaign against KRG to make it collapse.

The newspaper also reveals that Petraeus told the Turks if they recognize the kurdish state Turkey can act as a big brother for this new country in the region and they can also benefit from the natural resources of Kirkuk and parts of Mosul.

so we can come to the conclusion that the disputed areas will be included in the state backed by USA
