Against the persian assimilation its were good, if the kurds use Kirmancahî for the Southern Group of Kurdish.

Etymology of the word Kurmanc, Kirmanc, Kermanc
- The Hawrams call the Kurmanc as "Kermanc"
- many azeris call the kurds as "qerman" or "kerman"
- The word Kurmanc or Kirmanc (i think Kirmanc is older) comes probably of kirman- (of kirman-shah), and this of kerman- (kerman+shah) of the sassanidian time

i think kurds were a sassanidian group, if you look to the so called "middle persian", then you can see kurmanci.

A more logical explanation for the etymology of Kurmanj may be the word ''Cimmerian'' (kimerian).
Cimmerians were a prominant indo-European people in Anatolia and whole of Kurdistan. their name can be etymologically traced to the word Kurmanj, (name of Kurds in Kurdish for themselves.)

yet a much more possible etymology is that the name ''Kurmanj'' derives from the toponym ''Armenia''. Armenia was a name given in ancient times to eastern Anatolia. The people today claim to be Armenian never used the term themselves as an ethonym.
The name Kurmanj can be well developed from Elamite Xarminuya. Greeks who recorded the name as ''Armenioi'' often used to omit Iranian initial x, as in Xosrow > Osroes, . Since Iranic x has developed to k in modern Kurdish, hence we get karmanuya, the base of Kurmanj/Kirmanj/Kormanj/kermanj.
