Representatives of Cairo’s Ain Shams University arrived in Irbil Monday to discuss the establishment of the Kurdish language department at the university.

“We propose to construct a coordination with the Irbil University of Salahaddin in order to establish the Kurdish language department at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt”, Dr. Muhammad Said a Persian Language teacher at Ain Shams University informed PUKmedia.

“The idea of a Kurdish department at the University of Ain Shams was first proposed by the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s representative in Egypt. It will educate people of the Kurdish history, culture, and civilization as well as the Kurdish language.” Dr. Muhammad added.

“ This will mark the first Kurdish language department – besides Baghdad University – provided by any University in Arab countries. For this purpose we have requested from the University of Salahaddin to provide our University with Kurdish language professors for 3 years.” said Dr. Shirin Abdulnaeim Hasanin deputy-head of the Arts at Ain Shams University.

Ain Shams University (Arabic: جامعة عين شمس‎) is an institute of higher education located in Cairo, Egypt. Founded in 1950, the university provides education at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels.
