Kurmancî. (I've learned sorani many many years ago in university but i've forgot it). :? I like kurmancî but soranî is very nice to hear, like a music sound.

Don't worry and Farsi is almost Arabic 8) I have Farsi friends and when they speak it is all Arabic..

I am happy that Kurdish doesn't have many Arabic words.

I don't think he was sayin that. Farsi has hella arabic words in it. you know if you removed all the arabic words out of farsi, you wouldn't even be able to carry a conversation. but Kurdish is totally clean. you could remove the little arabic it may contain and it wouldn't make a difference at all

Kurmanji

PostAuthor: Diri » Thu May 12, 2005 1:13 pm

Kurmanjî or Soranî?

hmmm... its hard to say... Acttually I don't speak either...

I don't speak Kurdish as brutally as Kurmanji nor do I speak it as feminin as Sorani... I think my dialect should be standard Kurdish... Why? Because I am from Central Kurdistan... Sêro if you know where that is and for those who don't know where that is I should say Ormi... And know that I think you know of where I speak I shall go on with my explaining!

I amd from the place where Sorani meets Kurmanji... and so my dialect is one wich mixes both... In a way people from these areas have a larger vocabulary... because they use both words from Sorani and Kurmanji...
And so a standard Kurdish with a mix of Sorani and Kurmanji would sound just about the same as the dialect I speak...

By the way - How different from Sorani are the dialects in Ilam and Kermanshah? From what I have vitnessed they seem like two different things... I am aware of the fact that Kurds in Kermanshah mainly speak Gorani...

I myself have no problem understanding Kurmanji or Sorani... Sometimes it takes some effort thats all...

Yes, Kurds from Kirmashan are one of the remaining Kurds who speak the Gorani dialect.

Actually, many would argue that Gorani shouldn't be classified under Sorani because it came before Sorani. And many would call Sorani, Southern Kurmanci, because it emerged from Kurmanci.

Also, Zazaki came from Hewrami, so the two should be classified together.

Yeah Cheech, we nearly don't ve anymore arabic words in Kurdish language, since we have changed many words..example muhamad to 7ama.. Mustafa= Mcha and Abdullah to 3aba hhhhhh and many other words as well.

The last thing kurds should do is change the bloody arabic script to Latin.

Hewrami.. never heard of it. Are there more dialects I dont know about..
Zazaki, Sorani, Badini, Kurmanji... ?
The suppression of ethnic cultures and minority religious groups in attempting to forge a modern nation were not unique to Turkey but occurred in very similar ways in its European neighbours - Bruinessen.
