Hi,
I know I just came back to Ankara from a visit to Diyarbakir and one of my new possessions is a Diyarbakirspor scarf. However, I stupidly forgot to ask for a translation of the words written on the scarf, and I doubt any of my English-language students in Ankara will be able to help me. The scarf reads "XEMU XES DIGIN EM DIMIRIN" on the first line and "AMED" on the second line. Would someone be able to help me out with a translation? Loved Diyarbakir, by the way--my friends and I have a standing invitation from a museum worker named Ramazan to visit his Kurdish village, where he'll probably try to marry us off to one of his daughters.

Generally i am sorani - so my other brothers will help you better. what can i say for sure is Amed the kurdish name of Diyarbakir. for me it sounds something like : we all will die for Amed. but its only my idea .

it seems kurmanji but, i believe it is written not right. is the meaning "hemu hez dikin em dimirin" then it will be, "all loves and we die" or "all loves we die" but i dont know. maybe one from amed will help you better. are you kurd?

maybe "we will die for all we love"? - i also get confuzed with that

Xem=saddness
Xes=happiness
digin( which should be dikin) = we do
Em Di mirin= we will die

which roughly can be translated to : We enjoy life with it's sadness and happiness because we will eventually die ".

yes it is the meaning ! or meaning : We will do sadness and happiness and we die !

Not a bad translation samuelwallace, you got some nice feel for our language.
Nevertheless, this sentence was a bad translation of the originally turkish slogan:
Herkes sever, biz ölürüz (Hemû hez dikin, em dimirin)
