cardinal numbers

PostAuthor: allina » Thu Mar 13, 2008 1:18 am

Hello, everyone! :D Is it right or rong?
If speaking of days, month, years or anything that mean time or instance, it must be like this:
penj rozh - 5 days
no mâng - 9 months..............

But with other words cardinal number always should be with classifier that is followed before the singular noun in the absolute state. For different groups of words it must be special classifier:
dâna- for thing
nafar - for people
sar - for someone alive, but not people
So it must be
da dâna ktâw - 4 books
penj nafar - 5 people
da sar piling - 10 tigers..........

If i say "da ktâwân" it is rong?

hello allina .. how you doing? .. looks like you going be better and better .. that is so good .. well done ..
well yeah it is
:
allina wrote:penj rozh - 5 days

and yeah it is right to:
allina wrote:âna- for thing

nafar - for people
sar - for someone alive, but not people
So it must be
da dâna ktâw - 4 books
penj nafar - 5 people
da sar piling - 10 tigers..........

and in sorani we're using : Kteb or Ktab ..for ..(book) ... not Ktaw..

and there is an what i should name it . tool or i don't know what is its name in ENGLISH ..
but i'm trying to say that you can use ( ekan ) to making things plural like ..

Kteb ( for book) = Ktebekan (for books)
Nefer (for people) = Neferekan(for peoples)

but when you said:

da dana ktab .. you don't have to say:
allina wrote:"da ktâwân"
.. because it is wrong .. yeah wrong ..
when you said 10 dana .. this ten would make those who you talking with understand that you bought 10 books ..

hope it helps .. and sorry for the bad english .. :(

Allina

You don't need to put "dane", "nefer" etc... Those are needless... They're just used in confirmative or declaretive sentences...

Just say:

Deh kitêb/pirtûk = Ten books
Pênc piling = Five cheetahs (yeah - "piling" doesn't mean "tiger" - it means "Cheetah")
Sê sêw = Three apples...

ETC.

Saying

"Deh dane kitêb/pirtûk" is like saying "Ten units/pieces of books"...

He probably doesn't have the world's best English vocabulary... Show him a picture of a "Tiger" ("Bebir") and a "Cheetah" ("Piling")...

Of course in some cases, Soranî has lost some vocabulary too - when it mixed with Goranî...

Anyway - you're welcome... Please just ask if there is anything else, dear! :)
