Kurdistan celebrates World Youth Day

ERBIL, Aug.12 (AKnews)- The World Youth Day festival began today in Kurdistan concurrently with the rest of the world and the activities will last for one month.

The festival began today under the auspices of Nechirvan Barzani, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG)'s prime minister in Peshawa Conventions Center in Erbil. A considerable number of ministers and representatives of youth and UN organizations attended the event, held under the slogan "Developing Kurdistan Jointly with Youth." First a joint painting exhibition was opened which included 30 works.

A performance sketch by a male and a female artist followed the exhibition. Later on Kawa Mahmoud, KRG minister of culture and youth, delivered his statement, saying this is the first time such a youth festival for one month is held.

He added the activities cover arts, culture, sports, camping and some other fields and will be held across the entire Kurdistan Region.

Mahmoud said the Ministry has planned for developing the talents and capacities of the youth and for making them participate actively in all fields such as politics, economics and culture.

During the ceremony some pieces of music and singing were performed, too. The festival is organized by the Ministry and the UN.
