With the climate change, I hope they will cancel this stupid summertime and return to genuine solar time.

About schools, in Kurdistan as in Iraq, holidays from June to October ?

Animals wake up when they wake up, they do not have clocks

It is up to people to adjust to the changing seasons

Lots of people around here out with their dogs at 6 am :D

English saying:

Early to bed, early to rise,
makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise
Could be why I am so poor =))

Children get bored with long holidays, several breaks of a fortnight at a time would be better

Give them long holidays and they forget what they have learnt :ymdevil:

Temperatures to hit exceptional
peak as Europe heatwave continues

A heatwave gripping Europe is set to intensify with temperatures expected to hit an "exceptional peak" tomorrow

Torrid heat gripped large parts of western and central Europe on Wednesday and Thursday, setting new June temperature records in France, Germany and the Czech Republic - but the hottest is yet to come, according to forecasters.

Hundreds of firefighters are struggling to contain a wildfire in northeastern Spain that forced the evacuation of 53 residents, as the so-called Saharan Bubble heat sweeps the continent.

The wildfire in the region of Catalonia has spread to at least 16,000 acres, while firefighters said temperatures over 30C low humidity and high winds had fanned the flames.

France's national weather service issued its highest-level danger alert as it warned that parts of the country could expect temperatures to reach an "exceptional peak" on Friday.

This comes after French news outlet LCI previously reported three swimmers had died in separate incidents, linked to the heat, on beaches in southern France.

Meteo France raised the hazardous weather warning to "red" on Thursday - the highest level - for the Marseille and Montpellier areas in southeastern France.

It forecasted hazardous temperatures of 42C to 45C.

It was the first red alert Meteo France has activated since a four-level weather "vigilance" system was introduced, following an estimated 15,000 heat-related deaths in France during a 2003 summer heatwave.

"A heatwave of this amplitude so early in the year, in June, is exceptional," Meteo France meteorologist France Christelle Robert said.

"We should expect more intense and frequent heatwaves with climate change, because it will accentuate the extremes."

Although the full force of the heatwave have yet to hit the UK, parts of the country have seen their warmest temperatures of the year so far.

The heat is now set to rise to hit 34c in southeast England on Saturday, threatening the country’s June UK records, according to the Met Office.

Glastonbury Festival could also see the temperature match its highest ever, with festival-goers warned to take care in the heat.

The Italian health ministry said seven cities, including Florence, Rome and Turin, were already at Italy's highest heat warning level on Thursday.

A thermometer marks 37 degrees in downtown Turin, Italy, 27 June.

On Friday, 16 cities will be under alerts for high temperature and the Italian authorities have instructed people to avoid being outside during the hottest hours of the day.

They have also been told to stay away from areas with a lot of vehicle traffic to prevent ozone exposure.

In France, a red extreme weather warning advises extra precautions for children and older people and cautions that even those in good health are at risk of heat stroke.

In the Czech Republic, where a new June temperature record was set this week, gorillas and polar bears at Prague's zoo kept cool by eating their own version of sorbet.

Zookeepers presented the animals with big blocks of frozen water with ingredients to suit their tastes.

There was at least relief for northern Germany on Thursday as temperatures slid to more normal levels for June. In Berlin it was 21 degrees Celsius, down from around 37 on Wednesday.

Yesterday, I read Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands, by Chris Bohjalian. Today, Lottery Boy, by Michael Byrne.

Both are made for dogs' lovers.

Police clash with yellow vests
as trouble erupts in Paris

French police have clashed with "yellow vests" protesters in Paris's Champs Elysees avenue

It came shortly after president Emmanuel Macron presided over the Bastille Day military parade alongside other European leaders.

The Paris boulevard had been reopened to traffic but a few hundred protesters from the grassroots movement immediately tried to occupy it.

France's BFM television station showed images of police firing tear gas to disperse the protesters, some of whom were hooded.

They tried to block the road with metal barricades, dustbins and other debris.

Several loud bangs were then heard while protesters hurled objects at the police, booed and set a bin on fire.

Earlier, it had been reported 152 "yellow vests" were detained near the Champs Elysees as they tried to stage a protest.

French authorities had banned all "yellow vests" protests around the area, but several demonstrators managed to get on the avenue and turned their backs, booed and whistled while Mr Macron was riding by at the start of the parade.

Weekly demonstrations by the protesters - named after the high-visibility jackets they wear - have dwindled to just a few hundred people over the past few weeks, from around 300,000 nationwide in November.

Flags of the 10 countries of the European Intervention Initiative - a joint military pact created last year - led Sunday's military parade down the Champs Elysees.

The display included over 4,000 armed forces, 69 planes and 39 helicopters.

Mr Macron was joined by other leaders including German chancellor Angela Merkel.

Universities have holidays from June to October or even November.

Schools have holidays from July to September, and 2 weeks of Autumn holidays, 2 in Winter, 2 in Spring.

Adults have 5 weeks of holidays per year. And if we add the isolated official non-working days we reach 6 weeks.

We will probably have 40c in South East UK Thursday X(

Being ginger I cannot go out in the sun for long or I burn

Unlike many other countries - we do not have air conditioning

It is always far too cold and wet here

We call it a heatwave if it reaches 25c here

I have 4 fans that is it

The tarmac roads are starting to melt

They have sent out the gritting lorries as they do to put grit on the roads when we have ice
