I know many of u here don't care or even know anything about beauty pageant such as Miss World or Miss Universe. And may not even give a fuck about this stuff

But myself who have worked myself into these stuff knows a lot.
Lately I got the news than in Miss World they will let a Miss Palestine.
And what I know our Miss Kurdistan have tried to compete in miss World but the organization haven't let her because of the case that Kurdistan is not a country yet.
Now I want to know what is this unfairness about? don't come with comments that their women are more beauteous than ours because this doesn't have anything to do with that!

What makes Palestine a country (which they aren't either) than Kurdistans case? What is this hidden racism is about?

Forgotten again - ignored again - I think it is something far worse than racism - even with the fighting in Syria the word KURD is almost never mentioned X(

I understand your point re recognition as a country and that there shouldn't be any discrimination and Kurdistan should be treated the same as Palestine. But..is it really progress to be included in a mindless pageant that treats women like sexual objects and judges them solely on their appearance? I personally would like to see Miss World and the like abolished, but I know that many people would think that was extreme.

We should not waste time looking at a mindless pageant that treats women like sexual objects and judges them solely on their appearance - women should get their own back and ogle the men in the Mr World competition :ymdevil:

I have worked in this business and I can tell u that beauty pageant doesn't look at women as a sexual objects at all.
Winning in Miss World you have to have a great personality and character also a good project for charity.
Apperance and be good lokking is only 30% of what judges include. Most of beauty queens work for women rights and things like that so thi argument about beauty pageants look at women as a sexual object is just a missunderstanding that people have.

However this years Miss World will be held in Indonesia and they have rejected Israel to compete because they don't recongnize it as a state instead they want a fucking Miss Palestine!

One of their stupid excuses are that people in Kurdistan won't accept seeing their miss in bikini in miss world.
I was like come on,if a Miss Pakistan can have bikini in the contest u think a miss Kurdistan can't have it?
Sometimes I feel like they are underrating us a lot. Do they think we still lives in cages or what?

Miss Kani, today there are still many Kurds who are getting beat up, hanged, shot at, or arrested just for being Kurdish. And others are actually fighting for freedom. How would you like it some woman in SK are running around in bikinis while all this is happening?

Plus we want to keep Kurdish culture authentic, if they want to be Westernized, fine, that is anyone's free choice, but they can just live in the West.

And what does wearing a bikini have to do with a beauty pageant?? Is it strip show or a beauty contest?!

dear,I know that there are more important things to us facing everyday and I know many people don't really care about this.
But before talking please check some info ok?
In beauty contest the swimsuit round is required.
And btw, when u go to the beach do u call it for a strip show there? Since everyone is showing themselves in swimsuits. And showing yourself in bikini doesn't have to do anything with strip clubs and if u know what a strip club is about u wouldn't talk like this. I don't want to be in a fight with anyone but I like people go look at facts and then talk.Plus this site is all about politics (mostly) can we also talk about some other stuffs to??
I am not saying changing culture but saying to educate and make people more open minded. There is nothing wrong with wearing bikini and I am sure u are more open minded than this.

have a nice day

Did Kurds complain about this?

Young Kurdish men’s growing preoccupation with physical fitness and bodybuilding is fueling an explosion of gyms in the region, from gleaming, state-of-the-art health centres to clunky, alleyway weight rooms.

Most observers agree that the influence of western sport and culture and the growing idleness of young men, who in the past might have swelled the ranks of the Kurdish Peshmerga militia, is driving the fitness trend in Iraqi Kurdistan.

Just two decades ago there were only three gyms in the region. Today, by most estimates, there are at least 200 and the managers of the biggest ones in Erbil and Sulaimaniyah say their memberships have soared by more than 70 per cent in the last three years.

“Kurdish men now see gyms as a substitute for military training. I teach this new generation many of the good things I learned in the military, including bench presses, squats and other exercises. In the end, you view yourself in a different way. This is happening all over Kurdistan,” said Burhan Ali Joma, the head of the Kurdistan Bodybuilding Federation who opened Erbil Clubhouse Gym, the region’s first weight-lifting facility, in 1970.

These days, street corners and building facades in Sulaimaniyah and Erbil are plastered with competing advertisements for fitness centres. The facilities vary greatly but the larger ones are state-of-the-art, boasting floor-to-ceiling mirrors and cutting-edge equipment from Germany.

“People come to gyms because exercise is healthy. Some want to stay fit, some are sick and have been encouraged to exercise to stay healthy, and some want to build muscle. A lot of the new members are university students who want to make themselves stronger and more attractive,” Joma said.

The new gym culture has not been lost on the government or the women of Iraqi Kurdistan. Sherdil Tahsin, head of the Kurdistan parliament’s ten-member sports committee, said the regional authorities’ new budget includes ten billion dinars (8.4 million US dollars) for the development of sports facilities. He said the government was taking into account the popularity of gyms as the committee looks to allocate its resources.

Did anyone tell this Kurdish weightlifter to cover himself because a Kurdish woman might see his photo?

Image

This Kurdish weightlifter is in a competition - what is the difference between him showing off his body to a woman in a competition showing off her body?

His photo was in the Kurdish media - do Kurdish men vet the media reports before allowing women to read them?

Perhaps we should say that this man of obvious strength should be spending his time fighting to provide a better life for Kurdistan - but I personally believe that all publicity is good publicity - anything that publicises Kurds is good :D
