Interested to work (paid!) on a Kurdistan mapping project?

Hi, I am working on a postal delivery project and want to compile a list of delivery destinations (GPS coordinates) for addresses in the various postal code districts in Iraqi Kurdistan (using GoogleMaps or http://wikimapia.org). Good geographical knowledge of all or parts of Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as English and Kurdi essential. Being familiar with Googlemaps and Wikimapia is also important, but its not hard to pick up and learn (we would discuss further details once it goes ahead). Living/staying in Iraqi Kurdistan is a plus (some work will for sure require living in the areas, some other jobs might be done purely online with no need to be physically there, it will depend).

Anyone interested?

Thanks

Tom

I would like to help you, but due to the lack of time I can't at the moment. Plus, I don't live in Kurdistan. Though a few months ago I started to add all the street numbers into google maps which I had gotten from a navigation application. Unfortunately, the local moderator didn't want me to continue on it as my source was a navigation application. Though i am sure that those street numbers were correct as the street numbers of my neighborhood in hawler were all correct.

Sure, highest priority is Kurdi and English, Arabic is a plus though as some map users might be Arabic speaking. It's not a "political statement" of mine, its purely to make sure that users/viewers get the best service from the maps, that's all.

thats always a great idea to add kurdistan to the maps, it will make a base for future electronic products that we need for optimizing our ecnomy,
do you guys look for people in Southern kurdistan (iraqi kurdistan) or in all parts of kurdistan ?

just a warning , be careful guys, do not send your CV's just to anyone on the internet, and especially not here , where you know trolls circulating day and night.

Thanks, kardox, for you response. Cautioning people to be sensible is always good advise and I support that as well. The project I am planning is "decent" though, would be paid fairly for fair work. We have partners inside Kurdistan who will, once the project starts, make sure that payments are made safely and conveniently without a hassle. Just so much to reassure you (and everyone else).

And also thanks for pointing to the "Jobs in Kurdistan" Facebook page. That is of course a brilliant idea and I will post the project there in due course. I posted it here to see if it is feasible at all to find interested people in Kurdistan and then, dependent on the response, kickstart the project within 4-8 weeks.

THANKS AGAIN

Thanks alan131210 for you advise ! Yes, we will focus on Kurdi and Engl, Arabic language skills will NOT be regarded as a requirement anymore. I updated/edited the initial post accordingly.

Thanks, dyaoko, for your reply !

Ultimately it shall be all Iraqi Kurdistan, but I guess it would make sense to work with various people who are each most familiar with certain (their home) areas and collectively that would lead to a more detailed map for the entire region of Iraqi Kurdistan.

We did not yet go into the details of the logistics of "who does what" because I just wanted to see first if it is feasible at all to find interested participants online. Then, before anything starts for real, we would certainly detail and agree such details with everyone so that there is no confusion.

Just a quick question, if you guys dont mind:

I have the list of the Iraqi Kurdistan postal districts with their names and postal codes, but I could not find any map for those districts. I guess such a general map does not exist, or does anyone know where to find it?

Also, while I could find some rough geographical information about most postal code areas, for the following I could not find anything indication where these districts roughly are:

- 42005 (Bijil, بيجيل)
- 42011 (Batouna, باطونة)
- 44010 (Joman, چۆمان)
- 44016 (Mishtiqa, مشتکە)
- 44017 (Dashti Hawleer, دەشتی هه ولێر)
- 46005 (Sharazur, شارەزوور)
- 46013 (Beshdar, پشدەر)

If its not too much asked for, can anyone give me a rough idea how/where to find those on Googlemaps? Just some names of settlements within those districts which are shown on Googlemaps would be sufficient for a start.

THANKS A LOT !

I've got a quick reminder: it's kurdish not kurdi.
