Under former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's programme of "Arabisation", Kurds were driven from Kirkuk and replaced with settlers from the south, and the Iraqi government continues to assert control over nearby oilfields, with the backing from the local Turkmen community.

The city itself was seized by Kurdish fighters in June 2014 after the Iraqi army left the area ahead of an anticipated attack by Islamic State militants. It has come under regular attack from IS militants since then.

It is time the Kurds threw out all the Turkmen as ell as the Arabs X(

Turkmens won't be a great trouble, they are targets for ISIS.

Considering Arabs, I read on twitter (Vladimir V Wilgenburg account :

Wladimir @vvanwilgenburg · 3 h il y a 3 heures
Tribal leader Ismail Hadidi says the IS failed to get support from Arabs in #Kirkuk, and wanted to created a second Mosul #iraq

So better to make alliances than to alienate non Kurdish Kirkukis.

Turkmans are not so bad. There were used to be Kemalist Turkmans but now they have changed and realised they can not do anything about their destiny and the only way for them to have a future is to support Kurds.

The main aim of ISIS was to attack Baghdad and Damascus, not Kurds. But Arab fascists, former men of Saddam Hussein, within ISIS changed the plan to attack Kurds in Iraq and Syria.

Turkmen in Kurdistan are NOT like Turks. I have met many in Erbil, and some were even in ministries in KRG. They are ok with Kurds.

I remember at one stage they were paid for by Turkey to act against the Kurds and there were other reasons just do not remember them all

Something about some of them still being paid to cause problems with Barzani and trying to cause splits between Kurdish parties
