Your Paris air pollution is much lower than that of London which I find unusual but I know that France takes more measures to protect the people of Paris than the UK does to protect the people of London 8-|

Telegraph

Heatwave could buckle train tracks and melt roads, travellers warned

Image

Rail passengers were already facing disruption from Britain’s heatwave as Network Rail imposed speed restrictions over fears tracks would buckle in soaring temperatures.

First Great Western said that no fast trains would run between London Paddington and Bourne End or Henley-on-Thames amid concerns that metal rails would warm sufficiently in direct sunshine to soften the metal.

The heatwave - which officially began today after temperatures hit 5C above normal for five days in a row - could last a fortnight, with only short periods of cooler thundery weather breaking up the hot spell.

Network Rail spokeswoman Victoria Bradley said: "High temperatures can cause steel railway lines to expand as they heat up which, if left unchecked, could cause the track to buckle.”

The AA warned also that roads could melt as Britain heads towards its hottest day with highs of 94F (34C) degrees expected on Tuesday and 95F (35C) forecast on Wednesday. Asphalt begins to soften when air temperature hits 80F (27C) leading to uneven surfaces and cracks.

A 'level two' warning was issued by the Met Office and Public Health England are advising the vulnerable to stay indoors due to the heatwave.

NOW UPGRADED TO LEVEL 3

Mayorship launches anti pollution measures but without penalties. One of pollution factors is touristic buses coming from countries which do not apply the ecological rules for vehicles. Sometimes, we could see Polish or Hungarian old machines behind clouds of black dust :ymsick: Now Eastern Europe is in EU, it might be better.

That's the ransom for being the most visited place in summer (while Parisians fly away in August).

we are not far from 40ºc in Paris. A guy came to read but after 1 hour he renounced, the library was too hot.

When I am alone in the Library I get rid off my sandals and walk barefoot :D .

I wonder how many people will doie because of ramadan. Not eating is enough, but no drinking at all in a such 'canicule' is suicide.

Some Kurdish words for a very hot summer : kelkel, kelij, kelegerm. There are many other words, in fact, that's a thing Kurds kown very well.

I reached my aim to lost 3 lb each month. I lost 1,7 kg in June. That's a snail's race, but 'Qui va lentement va sûrement'.

Same as the English saying "Slowly but surely"

Let us hope it stays off this time ;)

29ºc in my studio. I let the windows open until sleeping time, but I doubt it will be enough to cool it.

That's the advantage of living in country : opening windows all the night, in a city you can't if you want to sleep (too much noise).

People that don't drink because of Ramadan are going to die… I always find stupid to impose religions rules whgen it harms health.

I hope that Peshmergas don't fast. They do not need to do a such thing. In Jihad you are exempted, so Kurdish mollahs should think of that.

Better to be in strong condition to face devils.

My mum asks me what I wish for my birthday.

And I have no idea. I thought about an exercise bike, but I fear it would be just a useless gadget.

No idea ?
