May 19 (AKnews)- Kurdistan Region Olympics Committee has officially agreed to open three specialized sports schools in Kurdistan, an official said.
Salah Khasraw, head of Kurdistan Olympics Committee, and members of the executive bureau of the Olympics Committee agreed to open the three schools in Duhok, Sulaimaniya and Erbil provinces, said Sabri Banana, who runs the Olympic Champion Project.
The schools will enroll students with the start of the new academic year, Sept. 15, so that a technical and administrative committee can trace the talents of the students while they are attending the lectures.
Banana added that the Olympic Champion Project has already opened three such schools in Baghdad province.
The objective behind the Olympic Champion Project is to win an Olympic medal for Iraq after three iterations of the Olympic Games starting with the Beijing Games. The goal would then be 2020.
This program will discover the potential capabilities, after operational and theoretical testing, of young children in various sports fields.
