Fourth Online Kurdish Language Course

The Kurdistan Diaspora Confederation announced on Sunday that the directorate of overseas education, under the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Education, has launched the fourth online Kurdish language course for diaspora communities in partnership with the Confederation

The Confederation said in a statement that the course, designed for children of the Kurdish diaspora, will begin at the start of October. Lessons will be held once a week on Sundays. The program will offer instruction in all three Kurdish dialects — Sorani, Badini, and Kurmanji — taught by experienced teachers. Upon completion, participants will receive certificates issued by the Ministry of Education.

The Confederation noted that more than 1,000 Kurdish students abroad participated in earlier courses, with each receiving official certification. It has also raised the slogan, “The Kurdish language... is our national identity,” stressing the importance of children abroad learning their mother tongue.

Registration for the course is open to students from any country through the Confederation’s website at kurdistanidc.org/ziman.

The Kurdistan Regional Government has in recent years expanded its efforts to preserve the Kurdish language among diaspora communities. Through the directorate of overseas education, it has worked with cultural and diaspora organizations to provide language classes, support teachers, and offer cultural activities online to connect younger generations with their heritage.

Officials have repeatedly underlined that maintaining the language is key to strengthening Kurdish identity abroad, particularly at a time when younger generations risk losing fluency in their mother tongue due to assimilation pressures.
