DIY Lowering High Blood Pressure

PostAuthor: Londoner » Sat May 17, 2014 9:09 am

On 15th of this May at 8:30am, I discovered my average blood pressure of four checks was 147.25. The highest was 150 and the lowest was 144. This was horrified me but by the following day in the morning my average blood pressure of four checks was down to 114. The highest was 118 and the lowest was 112. So what was the secret?

Less than five years ago my doctor warned me that I had high blood pressure. He put me on blood pressure lowering tablets and advised me to change my diet. After that I changed my diet completely. I studied all sorts of food online to find out which one could help to lower blood pressure. So I chose a assortment of vegs, fruits, nuts and fish, first as medicine to lower my blood pressure and second as diet.

Parallel to that I also bought a blood pressure check machine and started to check my blood pressure at least three times a day, each time I did four checks one after another, two times on my right arms and two times on my left arms. During the checks, I was moving from one arm to the next per check. Each time I started with the right arm.

When I bought the machine, my average blood pressure was around 140 although I had been on blood pressure lowering tablets for a while. But each time I did the check I noticed the last check was lower than the first check and almost each check was lower than the one before. I also noticed each day the average blood pressure was lower than the average blood pressure of the previous day. This continued until my average blood pressure reached to under 120.

I was very proud of myself for bringing down my blood pressure to 120 because I thought it was because of my diet. Later I gave up checking my blood pressure every day. I did it after that once a week. Later I almost forgot it. I remember the last time I checked my blood pressure, it was 117. After that I forgot about it until 14th of this May when I discovered the average blood pressure was 131, the highest was137 and the lowest was 123. This was a surprise, which I didn't believe.

I didn't have time to do further checks on the same day. But the following day of 15th of this month, I was shocked after checking my blood pressure, which was at an average of 147.25, the highest was 150 and the lowest was 144. I thought it was the end of the world. It was a confusing situation. Recently I had added some new vegs and stronger manoka honey to my diet. I thought they could be the reason. I checked each one. I ate each one a lone and after one hour checked my blood pressure. After each check my average blood pressure was getting lower. After twelve checks from around 9:00am on 15th of this month to around the same time on 16th May 2014, my average blood pressure was down to 114 from 147.25.

So what was the secret? It was obvious it didn't have anything to do with my food. So what is the explanation? I can explain it as a sort of DIY lowering high blood pressure. Because you are checking your blood pressure you are worried of the life-threatening of your high blood pressure and you want it to be lower as much as necessary to be healthy. Accordingly your body reacts to remedy the situation. This explains why each test was lower than the last check on each session and on each day.

The followings are the averages of the twelve tests within 24 hours: 147.25, 136.75, 124.75, 128.25, 118, 117.75, 120.5, 123.25, 106.75, 106.5, 108 and 114.

My advice is that to check your blood test each day at least three times, each time more than once on both arms and each time with a strong will and expectation to get a lower blood pressure. Hopefully it works for every one although we are all different.

In fact I have never trusted diet as a benefit for blood pressure. I eat meat and I salt my plate at 200%, though my blood pressure stays always between 12/7, 13/8. I know people who eat like vegans and have a high pressure.

I am sure it is like cholesterol : when we read things like : it is food but also stress but also genetics, etc. we have to translate : No one knows exactly the cause and then choose randomly some 'possible factors'.

My blood pressure is always around 135 - when I lose some more weight it will go down :D

I did not go out very much during the winter so not much walking - now I am out every day and not sitting near any biscuits I am certain to lose weight and my blood pressure will go down

I will try Londoner 's method - he is always one for working things out and inventing things :ymapplause:

Dear Anthea,

Try to get your blood pressure at least down to 130.00
I hope you are not like me over 60. But if you are give up sugar, salt, animal products, processed food and fizzy drinks. But consuming this type of food once in a while on special occasions is not a problem. Drink at least three litres of water a day, eat fresh vegs, fruit, nuts and fish. Use extra vergin olive oil. I use manuca honey in the morning and dates in the evening to replace sugar.

Physical work, moving around and walking does lower blood pressure and enhances your breathing. I am sure the method I mentioned will work for you.

Dear Piling if you are not over 60 like me don't worry about what you eat. But food becomes like a poison for over 60s if they are not careful. Some types of food does cause serious life-threatening problems for over 6os especially salt, sugar and animal products. If you can not do without salt it may be a good idea to drink a lot of water at least four litres a day to cleanse your body from it.

Don't worry, I am also a big big water-drinker. I drink everyday more than 1,5 liter in winter and in summer, not far from 3 l (I have 3 kidneys then I need more fuel, I suppose), beside a mug of tea and 3 mugs of coffee…

But I don't eat hardly sugar (except in my coffee), I do not like sweeties, even as sodas. French cook is less sweet than in England, most of the time sweet flavor is only for our 'dessert' (which I quite never eat, I prefer to end a meal with stinky cheese ;) ).

An important fact also concerning salt and sugar in food is the problem of junk food, often full of hidden fat, hidden salt, hidden sugar. I made my own cook with natural products so I can spice it as I wish but probably less than in industry meal.

And concerning blood pressure, our doctors know for a long time that 1 or 2 glass of wine per day (especially red wine) is good for heart and arteries. So a Bordeaux is better than a Pepsi…

You mean red wine. It is good for heart because it is made from red grapes, which I eat a lot.
To cleanse your body, especially from free radicals, you need to double your water drinking to at least three litres a day.

Red wine is good for heart because of it has a lot of tannin. White wine has, like olive oil, a high degree of antioxidants which is also fine.

In any case, a good wine is always healthy. At lunch, I drank a good Pommard, with a delicious blanquette de veau, meal vs wine, I don't know which effet will win :-D

It is said that prevention is always better than cure :D

I will never again write a business plan for friends #:-s

As for drinking something containing antioxidants - I thoroughly recommend "Organic White Tea Elderflower" it is absolutely delicious and my second favourite after tea with a hint of Earl Grey:

I have nothing but praise for this particular tea. It contains organic white tea which contains health-giving antioxidants, organic lemongrass, and organic elderflower with natural apricot flavour. When opening this tea the divine aroma hits you immediately, so fresh and invigorating with those natural fruity ingredients. The taste of the elderflower is really quite prominent, and the apricot flavour kicks in right at the end.

This tea is very refreshing and revitalising, and, unlike a lot of fruit or herbal teas that can taste a bit watery, it has a very full flavour. I haven’t tasted anything quite like it, and it’s fast become one of my firm favourites. The combination of white tea with the elderflower and apricot gives it a unique taste. I definitely want to try some of the other tea flavours in the range, they all look so appealing.

It’s very important not to oversteep white tea or it will taste bitter, and this tea should not steep for more than 1 – 3 minutes.

This tea is just so impressive. It’s the kind of drink that reminds me of late spring and early summer, although it’s great for any time of the year. It’s a delight to the senses with it’s delicious taste and wonderful smell, as well as having antioxidants beneficial to one’s health. Really, what more could one ask for from a tea?

I totally agree with this statement :x
