John 16:7-14 "Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: Of sin, because they believe not on me; Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you."

Muhammed didnt speak for himself, he told people what Gabriel told him to tell the people.

Yes there are several passages in the Bible that speaks of a coming prophet.

How do christians explain this? I wonder why they haven't edited it out :p

Christians often interpret this new prophet by the coming of their own institution. Catholics and Orthodox christians have the hardest time, since they don't have any prophet to take on that role. But Mormons have John Smith and Protestants often use Martin Luther as their prophet.

Mormons - John Smith Jr.
Lutherans - Martin Luther
Anglicans - No Prophet (You could say Henry VIII, but he wasn't a prophet)
Jehovah Witnesses and Bible Students - Charles Taze Russell
Christadelphians - John Thomas
Iglesia ni Cristo - Felix Y. Manalo
Adventists - Ellen White, James White, and Joseph Bates
Presbyterians - John Knox
Calvinists - John Calvin
Anabaptists - Menno Simons
Baptists - Roger Williams and Dr. John Clarke
Methodists - John and Charles Wesley
Evangelicans - No Prophet (although you could look at the Wesley Brothers as prophets)
Fundamentalists - Dwight L. Moody and John Nelson Darby
Unitarianists - Martin Cellarius
Liberalists - Friedrich Daniel Ernst Schleiermacher
Quakers - George Fox

Like most people here - I've also heard about there being prophecies in the Bible of a new Prophet to come...

But I have a question about your quote from John 16:7-14:

"Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you. "

Did Mohammed (p.b.u.h.) speak of John? :o

Ok first of all, the Bible NEVER EVER mentions of "Mohammad" if it did it would be the OPPOSITE! (Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
)
Second of all, the Bible mentions of the "Spirit of truth" which is the Parakletos. The Parakletos (or Paraqleeta in Aramaic) means "Counsellor" NOT Prophet. This cousellor is refferring to the HOLY SPIRIT in which we believe in - The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit. Please actually read the bible before insulting our Christian faith like such.

@ Azade and others
you said:
I wonder why they haven't edited it out :p

its written in quran that we edited the bibble, and i read it.
but i have one question for you
in which of these qurans you read it
Mushaf Abou-bakr
Mushaf Akrama
Nushaf Abdallah bin Masoud
Mushaf Ali
Mushaf Oussman Bin Affan
in islamic books which they teach in Azhar university they confirm that the quran gathered by Abou Bakr was 6 times bigger than the current (Oussmani).
read "Al-Itkan fi Oulum al-islam, chapter: jame3 Al quraan wa tartibahou".
According to Hadith Mohammad profet of islam says :"if you want the quran fresh (in this case reliable) take it from Abdullah bin Massoud" did oUSSMAN bIN affan do that ask your sheikh and you will know who totaly changed the quran not just edited it.

now for the mohamad in bible issue.
there is no mouhamad in bible if anyone knows where show me and i will become muslim, but u muslims always try to find roots for ur faith in other religions to make it more stiff and u never did; the phrase talks about jesus saying that he "will send the holy spirit and paraklit".
now some people who explain the bible say that paraklit means some one with good manners(in greek language),
some arab explainers assumed that some one with good manners means "mahmoud or Hamid" since in arabic (mahmoud) have the same meaning or derived from mohammad or both from same source name. this all stupid and rediculous
"paraklit" means in Assyrian parak-lite or parak-liteh it means the saver of the damned , parak = saver and liteh = damned and it is simple as that so where did you find mouhammad ? in this phrase you wrote:

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you."

now About Muslims changing the Quran some proofs from muslim scientists:
What Shiaa Say About changing the quran
read:
"Alturmusy": fasl el khitab fi tahrif kitab rab el arbab
Read also:
"al-itkan fi ouloum al Islam: it says , "no one says i took all of the quran lots of it was lost.
same source : Oussman bin Affan orders to burn "al souhouf" (which the moushaf is made from) and the this way to modify the quran from its original version.
same source P158: "3an Anas ibn Malek, ikhtalafa 3ala al-koran hatta takatal al-ghoulman wal mou3allemoun wa lithalika harraf Oussman bakiat Al-massahef".
same source p157:" zayd ibn Thabet, noussikhat al souhouf fi al-massahef fa tabbaddadat aya min ayat sourat al-ahzab".
note, (isn't in quaran written "iza hourrifat aya noukida bi kameleh) so what is ur quraan's situation here ?
check also for sunnies what they say in a book called "nawasekh al-Quran" p 37.

and the list is long

at the end if you don't know what your religion is and some malla drives you like kettle don't criticize others and make ironic comments.
Muslims should tell their Mullas to teach them every thing not to pick things they want, but they do that cause they are afraid from the reacion, and that,s why religious discussion in Islam is forbidden and not Allowed.

enjoy this reply :-)

Why do people who know nothing about another religion try to talk about it? Every Christian alive would instantly identify that verse as referring to the Holy Spirit.

seriously guys don't even talk about Christianity unless you have read the bible. If you are a Muslim you don't have the right to speak about Islam unless you have read the Quran. Before making any claims about any religion, learn the religion first don't base it on what you hear. There is no need to deny or lie it. What the bible prophecies is that there will come a prophet. Actually many prophets. But it warns that these prophets are FALSE, and you should not believe them. As for what is promised by god is not muhammad or any person it is the Holy Spirit which is very clearly explained later on. The biblical manuscripts go back to the 200's its fragments in the 100's as you know the bible was written down in the late 1st century meaning the time difference between the time of writing and the oldest copy is less than a hundred years. Muslims claim that the bible has been corrupted, while clearly the manuscripts disproves its corruption by such little time difference and such a great number of copies. the Quran is more prone to have been corrupted because - the bible had been written down in forms of letters meaning from the very beginning it had been written down. the quran on the other hand was memorized and later on written down. overall the proof that the bible has been corrupted is very little. and seriously there are too much differences it is very unlikely the bible was the same truth as quran.. In Christianity it says LOVE YOUR ENEMY. there is not one verse in the quran that says this. rather it encourages to fight them so that Islam spreads.. And every Kurd must know that we converted to Islam on the edge of the sword..

a lot of nations, tribes etc converted from their original pure believes and religions to christianity or islam by force. this is the nasture of religion - its the tool to keep a lot of people in the hand of the small group of elite, manipulate them and use them for thir purpose. thats why i think religion is one thing and believe in god is the other thing. all religios claims to be the one and only true and legitimate. but who on the earth knows and can be sure which way of worshiping God is the right and which is wrong. I really dont think that the manner that one prey makes a big difference to God. If one believe in god, if worship the God in any way and if its a good person - I think God will be happy with that. If the soldier prey and right after that goes and kill someone who prey the same as him - isnt it out of order?

no Kulka xan don't mix things up. In Islam it directly commands Muslims to use war to spread Islam. No such thing is ever once mentioned in the bible. How did Islam spread? from The Arabian Peninsula outwards through force. How did Christianity spread? It spread through the Jewish (converted) diaspora in the world from 70 AD especially to Europe. It faced brutal consequences by the pagans for CENTURIES till it was tolerated. Islam only faced this brutality during Muhammad's few years in Mecca and Medina. Later on the came back fought wars and plundered all the places. Jesus NEVER used force to spread his message, he died because of it. I am not Christian, but it cannot be denied that Christianity is actually a religion of peace. (not the corrupt catholic church, but the concept of Christianity in its concept.)
- its the tool to keep a lot of people in the hand of the small group of elite, manipulate them and use them for thir purpose. thats why i think religion is one thing and believe in god is the other thing. all religios claims to be the one and only true and legitimate. but who on the earth knows and can be sure which way of worshiping God is the right and which is wrong. if you don't base your belief in God into a standard concept like the God of Christianity or the God of Islam (Allah).... then you are creating your own God, like G.K. Chesterton says 'If men will not be governed by the Ten Commandments, they shall be governed by the ten thousand commandments." meaning everyone will create their own morals and their own laws. What you may think is moral according to your conscious might be immoral to another. so who is true here? surely a just and moral God would make the distinction clear for the people.
