Islam is the Religion Of kurds

Discussions about religion.

Alevis aren't muslim ;)

They are a branch of a group which includes "Ehlê-Heq" and Êzîdî religions ;)

About 10-20% (disputed) are Alevîs among Kurds - therefor it is wrong to say that 97 % are muslim... Kassem - you are Alevî... Maybe you can tell us about that???

Where ever I read about the Kurdish population it laways make spesific distinctions between Muslims and Alevîs... but then again - I guess it really depends on what your point of view is :D

Hi,

Sell if you fo and ask a sunni what he thinks about Shia he would say they are not real muslims.. Ifyou go and ask a Shia about Sunnis, he would say they are not real muslims.. Same for the other religions... From an islamic point of view, anyone who considers himself as a muslim is a REAL MUSLİM!! And, most of the Alevis I met, both Kurdish and Turkish, consider themselves as muslims and they support this cliam on their websites too.

And... so whats the point - what you are saying is (and you are telling me what I already know) that Kurds WANT to be victims... because the doit because they want to be different... :D But I don't think and feel it has ANYTHING to do with that matter directly... I believe that it is more of a way to show their disapproval of how Turks are acting... their girls look loose and their boys like thugs... So I think Kurds just want to be different because they don't feel they can identify themselves with the ugly culture that the Turks are showing -well MOSTLY - Everything is RELATIVE ;)

Why the hell do we have to have a religion??

Almost all the world problems come around by people bastardising religion (mainly Islam). By saying that we are Muslim people, you are immediately excluding other religions that are prominent in our society. It's bad enough that we hardly have any friends outside Kurdistan, but we dont to make enemies within our own because of something as daft as this.

And before anyone goes all anal on me, I am a Muslim.
How about a little less Hassle and a little more Hoff?!

No country should have an "official religion" because it's not inclusive at all. It's enough that the holidays are based around the predominate religion. It saves so much arguing and fighting when you keep your religion to your self and your family, and keep the religion out of the state to whatever degree possible.

Hi all,

There are dozens of countries which base their identities on ONE PARTICULAR religion and at the same time quiete successfull and rich. Israel is one of them. Although 20 percent of Israel's population is made up of non-Jews, Israel is a country based on Judaism. Its "official religion" is Judaism. There is no discussion on that.

From my point of view, what causes troble is not religion but "evil people" who try to impose their understanding of a religion on people by using force. Such kind of behavior truely alienates people. I go to mosue not because an asshole who does not even know the basic tenants of Islam forces me, but I love and believe in Islam. That must be the measure. Islam is a part of our culture. If you love kurdish culture, you must not exclude Islam which is part of us. Religion and people can prosper side by side if "needed instutions" can be set up!!!

OE - SEE NOW I disagree...

If you love kurdish culture, you must not exclude Islam which is part of us

That is very wrong... Because it is not Islam that Kurdish culture has been based upon... Kurdish culture has been based on Hurrian culture and Median culture - The latter which had Ezdanîsm/Zoroasterianism as it's official religion... So what you MEAN to say is : If you love Kurdish culture, you must not exclude Ezdanîsm/Zoroasterianism which is part of us... YES - EVEN muslim Kurds have strong belonging to Ezdanîsm/Zoroasterianism... Because every wisedom of Kurdish culture comes from these religions and their traditions...
And from all sides of our lives:
The tradition of always laying your baby's on their back - to shape their head square...
The tradition to light a fire on Kurdish New Year - New Roj/Roz
The tradition to "Speak good words" "Think good thoughts" & "Do good deeds" are all part of our ANCIENT culture and THOUGH they also exist in Islam - don't forget we did it thousands of years before Islam came ;)
Our traditional weddings...
Not to mention our language... Kurdish culture is one of the LEAST muslim cultures in the Middle East... SO I find it hard to accept that Islam is such a great part of our society... YES - It is a great part of an individuals life - but that does not affect any other people in anyway different than how an Ezdanî affects other people around him...

So I find your claims groundless...

We don't speak Arabic - the language of Islam... We don't make our women cover up themselves in Hijabs that cover all but their faces... We don't have traditions for other such things... The Islamic culture is an Arab culture... So we naturally can not identify ourselves as a muslim society - we are the most secular Muslims - On tha same level as Albanians and Bosnians are muslim... We are Kurds first (as a society) and THEN we are muslim...

"The Basic Law: Human Dignity and Liberty refers to a "Jewish and democratic State". However, Judaism has not been proclaimed the official religion of Israel. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jso ... eedom.html

Jewishness is what "informs" Israel, and it's an ethnic determination too, but it's not the official religion.

Official religions are just not inclusive enough for everyone. But the holidays and the calendar's should be guided by Islam if most people are Muslims. Yet, laws should be based on the constitution, not on a relgion.

Come ON PEOPLE! We aren't PAKISTAN OR AFGHANISTAN!

We must be KURDS!

And about holy days - We should have ALL religious days free - Important CheldoAssyrian, Ezdanî, Alevî, Muslim, Ehlê Heq, Jewish - and Christian - Kurdish society is much more secretive than we know - there are some religions you will find - you NEVER heard of before - It's just that people are AFRAID to say they are Jewish or any other than the majority Muslims!

We must respect them all and show that we are EVEN better than Israel - it is a role model for Kurdistan!

Silly news in my mailbox.

"Three members of a same clan in the village of Yata, near Hebron, decided to convert to Judaism after they discovered that their ancestors were Jews from Yemen who immigrated to Israel a few centuries ago, and that Muslim authorities ruling at the time forced them to convert."

CENTURIES? Oh that's so strange! I wonder how they proved this? I wonder what got them thinking they wanted to convert? Maybe they don't want to live under palestinian rule? Where do people come up with these things. I'm sure they are very welcome and everything, but it's still odd and kind of humorous.
