left hand

PostAuthor: UE_kurdophile » Sun Oct 08, 2006 2:20 pm

Yesterday I was studying diplomatical manners and one of the advices was: do not give anything to a Muslim with your LEFT hand. It is considered impure. :shock:

Is it true or did I misunderstood the advice?
Is it considered VERY bad?

It's not considered "very bad" in fact hardly anywhere do people even "think about it"...

But it's true that the right hand (in theory - not in practice) is impure... Because with the right hand we eat and drink - but with the left hand (remember only in theory) we clean ourselves - for example after a visit to the toilet...

Just remember - all this is in theory - and the only "practical" effect it has is;

Before praying, when we wash ourselves, we do right hand before left hand and right foot before left foot etc.

And when praying we look to the right side (shoulder) before looking to the left side (shoulder) - also in Shafe'î school - we use the right hand to point towards the Ka'ba when praying...

And another reason, perhaps to why right side is more "pure" than the left side;

On the right hand shoulder, sits the Angel which writes the good things you: do, say and think...

On the left hand shoulder, sits the Angel which writes the bad things you: do, say and think...

Therefore and probably for many more reasons, left is "impure" or perhaps not as "good" as right hand... But that's all just in theory... Think about all the people who are left-handed??!!! :lol:
