Gandhi's Birthday / India's Independence
Erbil Governor Omid Khoshnaw and Indian Consul General Madan Gopal gathered on Monday to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on the occasion of his 154th birth anniversary and India's 77th independence anniversary
They laid a wreath at Gandhi's statue in Shahid Sami Abdulrahman Park, underscoring the strong ties between the Kurdistan Region and India.
Governor Khoshnaw used the occasion to extend his congratulations to the people, government, and the Indian Consulate in Erbil. He emphasized the importance of coordination and cooperation between the Kurdistan Region and India to serve the interests of both communities.
The presence of Mahatma Gandhi's statue in Martyr Sami Abdulrahman Park symbolizes the enduring relationship between the Kurdistan Region and India. The statue was unveiled on September 17, 2019, commemorating India's independence and the 150th anniversary of Gandhi's birth.
Gandhi played a pivotal role in India's liberation from British colonial rule through nonviolent means, earning him the revered status of the nation's father among Indians.
