To one familiar with Marxist trickery, I have seen Kurds divided due to Marxist ideology, it is obvious that placing the blame for all the Black people’s ills at the door of the White leaders in America is to remove all responsibility from the Black community.

This tends to make Black people:
    Feel sorry for themselves;
    Blame others for their failures;
    Ignore the countless opportunities around them;
    Be jealous of the progress of other racial and national groups;
    Expect the White man to use positive discrimination to promote Black people;
Look for easy and quick solutions as a substitute for hard work and studying when facing the harsh realities of competitive struggle to get ahead.
The result is a persecution complex - a warped belief that the White man’s prejudices, the White man’s system, the White man’s government is responsible for everything bad in their lives. Such a belief is the way Marxists have planed it,

The next step is hate. Hate that can be used by the Marxist - who may try to put a friendly face on their movement by calling themselves socialists, but in the case of BLM it is most certainly and admittedly based on Marxst idiology - to accomplish their ends. In the USA this causing civil unrest as BLM supporters, (many unknowingly) provide funding for the Loony Left to overthrow the US government and gain power.

Note:
Positive discrimination is a system whereby instead of giving a job to the person best qualified and most suitable for the position, a less qualified Black person is given the job

This is completely wrong on all levels
Someone who spent years studying hard to obtain qualifications should be employed ahead of a less qualified person whatever their colour is

Dose anyone really wants to be the TOKEN BLACK person in a company

This form of tokenism is wrong for:
The company who employs a token
The other workers within the company
The qualified person who would otherwise have been employed
The person who only got the job because of the colour of their skin
Many Kurds who have come to the UK without any education or language skills have studied hard and done extremely well - there is at least one Kurdish MP and a Mayor

Often Kurdish parents - some men were farmers and shepherds in Kurdistan - have been unable to help children with their education or homework, but this has not held back the next generation of Kurd from studying hard and, in many cases attending university

Movement to Destroy a Nation

Nation-wide protests weeks after George Floyd’s murder turned into a movement to destroy a nation. Parading as an attack on racial injustice, the movement has turned into an obliteration of history. This week that devastation set its eyes on faith

Less than one week ago, protesters rekindled the call for removing confederate statues. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in a show of solidarity with the protest mob, removed two portraits of former House speakers who were part of the Confederacy.

From there, the momentum quickly shifted to anyone whose statue is seen as offensive, who may have held racist or politically incorrect views of another era, or who may (or may not) have owned slaves or supported slavery at any time.

Never mind that the qualifiers of what constitutes “offensive” is blurred; the momentum of eradicating history is ruled by emotion, not reason.

In #WashingtonDC a statue honoring #AbrahamLincoln which was paid for by the Black Community is under attack. Beloved US President Teddy #Roosevelt statue being removed from museum in #NYC. Even Francis S. Key who wrote the Star spangled banner was not spared, statue destroyed. https://t.co/KHbMStwoOA

    — Jeff Schoep (@SchoepJeff) June 24, 2020
Just in the last week, the long list of what’s offensive includes Ulysses S. Grant, Andrew Jackson, Winston Churchill, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, George Washington, Francis Scott Key and more.

It was inevitable. When you go from a culture that is willing to cancel someone for what they said 10 years ago, why not go for what was said 100 years ago?

Everything is subject to a squinted-eye review based on the strict checklist of virtue extremists.

Now they have come for religion.

YES

All murals and stained glass windows of white Jesus, and his European mother, and their white friends should also come down.

They are a gross form white supremacy.

    Created as tools of oppression.
    Racist propaganda.

    They should all come down.

    — Shaun King (@shaunking) June 22, 2020

The is exactly the type of slippery slope conservatives warned about.

The left said it was just about confederate statues.

Then they said it was about slave owners.

Now they want to tear down Jesus. https://t.co/dsJxHfwGZf

    — Alex Marlow (@AlexMarlow) June 24, 2020
In addition to the antisemitism the American Jewish community has been increasingly enduring for the last number of years, protesters also toppled a memorial to Holocaust survivors in a cemetery in California.

COVID-19 measures issued by governors recently banned Christians from congregating in churches. Just weeks later, those same governors had no issue with city-wide protests that brought thousands together.

We’re now at the intersection of faith and history with the desire to eradicate the past.

Noticeably absent from the mob’s radar is Islam, as the intersectional allies of victimhood-claiming Islamists have chosen to ignore the problematic aspects of the religion.

But there’s a lot in Islam that needs to be discussed, as there is in many other faiths and sectors.

In answer to Shaun King, yes, we should talk about the impact of skin-lightening of religious figures. But should we cast the totality of historic aggressions perpetrated by missionaries on indigenous populations as white supremacy, as if there was an orchestrated white supremacist movement through the centuries?

Or do we — as a generation writing what has the potential to be the final chapter of injustice — elevate our own capacity to look beyond this simplistic narrative?

Resting the argument on just a blanket accusation of white supremacy does two devastating things:

Gives far more power to the idea of “white supremacy” than white supremacists actually have.

Further disempowers the authentic narratives of the “other” populations that have long been ignored or whose stories have long been told predominantly through the lens of the victor or conqueror.
There are other ways to talk about critical and overdue issues in human history, but none of the leading influencers or commentators are capable of leading this discussion, as they are proving.

If it feels like there is no stability in this movement and the monstrosity it has become, it’s because there isn’t any stability. If it feels like the goal posts keep shifting, it’s because they have. This is how extremists operate; they’re erratic, illogical, dangerously passionate, and any sincere cause or desire to do good by the few is lost to the movement of the mob.

Riots & emotion need to be under control ASAP bc broader sinister movement is hijacking protest, outrage, genuine human empathy. When they get full control, they WILL burn it ALL, even the good intentions.

    — Shireen Qudosi (@ShireenQudosi) June 3, 2020
Whether they come for statues today or people tomorrow, the goal of any extremist movement is to rewrite the narrative by obliterating any other narrative. The goal of this current movement is no different. It isn’t just to level racial injustice;
    it’s to level America.

Unilever drops 'fair' from skin cream

Unilever will rename Fair & Lovely, a skin-lightening cream which has been criticised for promoting negative stereotypes around dark skin tones

It will also remove references to "whitening" or "lightening" on the products, which are sold across Asia.

Unilever acknowledged the branding suggests "a singular ideal of beauty".

Two separate petitions urging Unilever to stop the production of its Fair & Lovely range have been signed by more than 18,000 people in recent weeks.

"This product has built upon, perpetuated and benefited from internalised racism and promotes anti-blackness sentiments," one says.

A second petition claimed the cream "tells us that there is something wrong with our color, that we have to be light in order to feel beautiful. In order to feel worthy."

'Fully committed'

Sunny Jain, President of Beauty & Personal Care at Unilever, said: "We are fully committed to having a global portfolio of skin care brands that is inclusive and cares for all skin tones, celebrating greater diversity of beauty.

"We recognise that the use of the words 'fair', 'white' and 'light' suggest a singular ideal of beauty that we don't think is right, and we want to address this."

"The brand has never been and is not a bleaching product," Unilever added.

The consumer goods giant also said that it had removed before-and-after impressions and "shade guides" on Fair & Lovely packaging in 2019. The skin care range is sold across countries such as India, Indonesia, Thailand and Pakistan.

Unilever's move comes as cosmetics firms around the world reassess their product lines and marketing strategies in light of the Black Lives Matters movement, sparked by George Floyd's death.

George Floyd died in Minneapolis in May as a white police officer held a knee on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

The final moments were filmed on phones. Four police officers involved have been sacked and charged over his death.

'Hugely disappointing'

Writer and activist Poorna Bell said that Unilever's announcement was "hugely disappointing".

"It doesn't do enough to make reparations for the untold mental and emotional damage done by colourism," a prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, often among people of the same ethnic group.

"Renaming the products doesn't mean anything - that's still just colourism by another word," she said.

She also called for Unilever to match Johnson & Johnson's recent commitment to stop selling certain products that are advertised as dark-spot reducers in Asia and the Middle East, but have been used by consumers to lighten skin tone.

Company commitments

Skin-lightening products are typically aimed at women in the Black and Asian communities, says Dr Steve Garner, a sociologist, who carried out one of the first British studies into skin-lightening.

Nivea's parent company Beiersdorf told the BBC that it "stands against racism and discrimination of any kind and supports the Black Lives Matter movement."

Nivea's Natural Fairness line is sold in the Middle East, India as well as Nigeria and Ghana.

On its Middle East website, the product is described as being able to "prevent the darkening of skin tone".

Nivea screenshot

When asked by the BBC if it would amend the description, Nivea said that the product contains SPF-15 "which helps prevent sun-induced skin damage, such as irregular dark pigmentation, for any skin type."

It added: "We are currently doing a review in all our products descriptions and are in the process of re-evaluating and updating the description that may cause any misinterpretation."

In a YouTube video advertising the range, cartoon images of women are put side-by-side, claiming that the products can "brighten" the skin.

"The language around these products upholds the beauty standards that lighter or whiter skin is more desirable," Nomshado Michelle Baca, the founder of beauty brand A Complexion Company.

"The individual who formulated and marketed the products is not likely to be a person of colour, resulting in a warped perception that all black women desire lighter skin."

But she argues that the conversation has become "hyper-focused on the change of someone's entire complexion.

"The woman who wants to treat small areas of scarring is left invisible and without options but to use the damaging products available in unregulated retailers or black hair shops."

Banned products

Unless they are issued on prescription by a doctor, creams containing hydroquinone, steroids or mercury are banned in the UK - because of their potentially serious side-effects.

Consumers have previously been warned by the Local Government Association to steer clear of those toxic products that can "act like paint stripper".

BBC News identified products containing the bleaching agent hydroquinone available to UK customers on online marketplace EBay.

Removed EBay listing

This product was removed from EBay's online marketplace once it was flagged by BBC News

A spokesperson for EBay told the BBC: "Only items that comply with the law are allowed to be listed on eBay and any products containing hydroquinone, steroids or mercury are banned.

"Listings containing these ingredients were immediately removed and we are taking enforcement action against the sellers. We work closely with regulatory authorities including Trading Standards and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency to keep our community safe."

They added that EBay has been updating its "offensive materials policy" in recent weeks in light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

"In the bigger picture, companies should have been doing these things, such as weeding out potentially poisonous products, a long time ago," Dr Steve Garner added.

"Realistically, these commitments will have very little impact for a global company."

Let's do away with skin lightening creams

    OOPS!
Many people make their own skin lightening cream NOT JUST BLACK PEOPLE

Ginger people use a mild skin lightener to remove freckles

This move is against Gingers

To take such cream off the market will mean many more people making there own lightening creams, this could be dangerous and may cause cancer

Will white people find skin tanning creams removed from eBay !?!

What about the wearing of wigs and hair extensions !?!

Black Lives Matter leader states:

If US doesn't give us what we want, then we will burn down this system

Greater New York Black Lives Matter president Hawk Newsome joined "The Story" Wednesday to discuss the direction of the movement in the wake of George Floyd's death in police custody and the subsequent demonstrations across the country, many of which have sparked destruction and violence.

"You ... have said that violence is sometimes necessary in these situations," host Martha MacCallum told Newsome. "What exactly is it that you hope to achieve through violence?"

"Wow, it's interesting that you would pose that question like that," Newsome responded, "because this country is built upon violence. What was the American Revolution, what's our diplomacy across the globe?

"We go in and we blow up countries and we replace their leaders with leaders who we like. So for any American to accuse us of being violent is extremely hypocritical."

ORDER PROTECTING FEDERAL MONUMENTS

MacCallum clarified that her question was based off comments she had heard Newsome utter in various interviews.

"I said," Newsome told the host, "if this country doesn't give us what we want, then we will burn down this system and replace it. All right? And I could be speaking ... figuratively. I could be speaking literally. It's a matter of interpretation.

"Let's observe the history of the 1960s, when black people were rioting," he went on. "We had the highest growth in wealth, in property ownership. Think about the last few weeks since we started protesting. There have been eight cops fired across the country."

"I don't condone nor do I condemn rioting," Newsome added. "But I'm just telling you what I observed."

Later in the interview, Newsome insisted the Black Lives Matter movement is about "saving lives" and its adherents should be "applauded" for upholding the Second Amendment.

"Nobody's talking about ambushing police officers. We're talking about protecting lives," he said. "There's nothing more American than that. We talk about uplifting and upholding the Second Amendment but it seems to be the hypocrisy of America that when black people start talking about arming themselves and defending themselves, [that] talk is 'violent'. But when white people grab assault rifles and go to our nation's, their state capitals, it's all good."

The interview took a turn after MacCallum read a quote from Martin Luther King Jr. and asked Newsome if he agreed with it.

"Let us be dissatisfied," King told the Southern Christian Leadership Conference convention in 1967, "until that day when nobody will shout, 'White power!', when nobody will shout, 'Black power!', but everybody will talk about God's power and human power.'"

"I love the Lord and my Lord and savior," Newsome responded to MacCallum's prompt. "Jesus Christ is the most famous black radical revolutionary in history. And he was treated just like Dr. King. He was arrested on occasion and he was also crucified or assassinated. This is what happens to black activists. We are killed by the government."

At the conclusion of the interview, Newsome told MacCallum, "I just want black liberation and black sovereignty, by any means necessary."

Britain is suffering a mental breakdown

Riot police chased out of Brixton by teenage thugs. More than 20 officers injured, with two treated in hospital

The Home Secretary describing the criminal mayhem as ‘utterly vile’. Meanwhile, lockdown parties and illegal raves erupt into violence elsewhere across the country.

No wonder former Metropolitan Police commissioner Lord Blair says we need an urgent ‘public conversation’ about the amount of violence being directed towards the men and women who we entrust to keep law and order.

If the forces of law and order behave like a kitten rather than a lion, then it is no surprise that those minded to cause trouble feel they have the upper hand. Protesters are pictured in London earlier this month

It’s simply not right that they should fear being badly hurt in their daily working lives.

Depressingly, what is happening to our police is symbolic of wider social unrest. It is as if Britain is suffering a mental breakdown – with all the values and links that bind us together being torn apart.

In the first weeks of the coronavirus lockdown, we were a people united. We followed the advice of the Government and respected unprecedented measures to protect the NHS.

Now, however, as the lockdown has started to lift, we are witnessing a terrifying outbreak of noisy and dangerous disharmony.

It may be the effect of weeks stuck at home or the exceptional summer heat. But it feels as if we are living in a pressure cooker, with tensions and anxieties threatening to spill out. If things do not calm down, I dread to think where we are heading.

Riot police chased out of Brixton by teenage thugs. More than 20 officers injured, with two treated in hospital

The violent lawlessness last week followed disturbances across the country as protesters acting under the banner of Black Lives Matter brought the worst and most divisive aspects of American identity politics to the UK.

They ushered in the disturbing sight of it seeming to be completely acceptable for people to get away scot-free with defacing or destroying any public monument that isn’t to their liking.

Despite strong words of condemnation, Ministers shamefully stood by and allowed this to happen. Unprotected by the Government, police chiefs felt obliged to hold back – or even in some cases watch as their under-attack officers ran away.

Is it any wonder that this is what happens when some officers are seen to ‘take the knee’ and back down.

As former Home Secretary David Blunkett has said, the gesture of kneeling, ‘though prompted by the best instincts, might give the perception of undermining the role of the police in such situations. They are there to ensure a safe demonstration, not to make political statements.’

Protesters are seen throwing a statue of slave trader Edward Colston into the docks in Bristol. Everywhere I look, there seems to be an attempt to present modern Britain as something that it is not

If the forces of law and order behave like a kitten rather than a lion, then it is no surprise that those minded to cause trouble feel they have the upper hand.

At the core of this pressure-cooker atmosphere is, I believe, a shocking failure of nerve by almost everybody in a position of authority –from politicians, the police, our religious leaders and broadcast media.

While church services – which for many provide a source of great comfort and community – remain prohibited until July 4, the vacuum in moral leadership has been replaced by political virtue-signalling.

For example, the Archbishop of Canterbury seems obsessed by ‘white supremacy’ and has suggested that some statues in his cathedral ‘will have to come down.’ Many would be forgiven for thinking that, rather than trying to expiate a sense of privileged guilt, such leaders ought to be trying to find more practical ways of mending our society.

At the core of this pressure-cooker atmosphere is, I believe, a shocking failure of nerve by almost everybody in a position of authority –from politicians, the police, our religious leaders and broadcast media. Demonstrators are seen in London

The radical Leftists who run Black Lives Matter (the group’s founders are self-declared Marxists) claim this proud nation is a uniquely racist and unfair society, with historic sins unlike any other.

They then build on this lie to try to impose a whole new set of values on our country. Like lemmings, major corporations and once-great institutions have paid lip service and more to these demands.

We are told, too, that we must all be re-educated and reprogrammed to atone for our ‘awful’ past. But there is never any positive or practical proposal for addressing the past – only ever a malevolent insistence that everyone agree with the activists who seem determined to shut down anyone who questions their extreme demands.

Against this background, a Cambridge academic called Priyamvada Gopal sent a message on Twitter saying, ‘white lives don’t matter’. Previously, this student of colonial and post-colonial literature has been notorious for tweeting incendiary material.

So how did her university bosses react? They immediately sent out a message supporting her and presenting her as a victim because of the negative reaction that she had received. Next, by Gopal’s own account, the university promoted her to a full professorship.

When people wonder what is happening to our country and watch in despair as the glue that holds us together becomes unstuck, they ought to realise that what they are witnessing is the result of decades of figures in authority pandering to political activists instead of doing their job.

And it doesn’t seem to matter how destructive the process becomes, they never learn.

The more woke the police become, the more they lose control. The more they dance with protesters, take the knee or run away from them, the more that those who want to destroy our way of life believe they are free to do so.

How ironic that police chiefs are now complaining that they might not be able to cope on July 4 when the British public is allowed to go back into the pubs. It is a case of you reap what you sow.

The fact is that Britain needs to return to normality as swiftly as possible. And that includes allowing us to regain some semblance of ordinary life again.

The madness of a lockdown in which half a million people descend on to the Dorset beaches. The stupidity of children being kept out of school. The disgraceful way that some cynical bosses are using the Government’s furlough scheme to keep on employees only to sack them when the Treasury pulls the plug.

It’s not just the Brixton mob who have gone feral – the country seems to have been poleaxed by a virus other than Covid-19 that has infected our national nervous system.

Most important of all, we need strong leadership from all society’s institutions. We await Boris Johnson to address the nation – as perhaps only he can – in a spirit of optimism and positivity.

It’s time to be reminded of all the good things about this country.

The malcontents, rioters and anarchist activists must be told that Britain will not be changed by violence or intimidation. That we live in an unusually fair country, not a bastion of racism that we have kept being told about in recent weeks.

After a week in which this country seems to have been losing its head, it’s imperative to restore some sense of sanity.

Church of England to review statues

The Archbishop of Canterbury said some statues "will have to come down"

The Church of England is to "very carefully" review statues at major places of worship to see "if they all should be there", the Archbishop of Canterbury has said.

The Most Reverend Justin Welby said monuments at Canterbury Cathedral and Westminster Abbey would be included.

"Some will have to come down, some names will have to change," he told BBC Radio 4's Today.

The acts of those memorialised could be forgiven "only if there's justice," he said.

Forgiveness can only be granted "if we change the way we behave now and say this was then and we learn from that and change how we are going to be in the future," he said.

Across the UK, statues are being reviewed for links to the slave trade in response to Black Lives Matter protests that followed the death in US police custody of African-American George Floyd.

Archbishop Welby said it was not his decision whether to remove statues at Canterbury Cathedral.

"We are going to be looking very carefully and putting them in context and seeing if they all should be there," he said.

Asked if society focused too heavily on repentance over forgiveness, he said: "Yes, I think we do...repentance and justice must go together".

"We have seen in some of the other crises we have been facing over the last few months, not just Covid, but also Black Lives Matter and the economic downturn, that there is great injustice and we need a collective turning away from that, which is what repentance means, but we also need to learn to forgive."

Actress behind BLM disowns Black Lives Matter

Actress behind BLM protest in Whitehall disowns 'Marxist' Black Lives Matter, saying it's a separate group 'hijacked' by far-Left activists who want to tear down capitalism and abolish the police

Imarn Ayton said that she was behind two Black Lives Matters protests in London
The actress believes the BLM movement has been hijacked by far-Left activists
She claims BLM UK, a campaign group, is now at the forefront of the movement
Ms Ayton, 29, said that the group used a skillful social media campaign to do this
A prominent organiser of Britain’s Black Lives Matter protests believes the campaign has been ‘hijacked’ by a group of far-Left activists.

In an outspoken attack, Imarn Ayton, 29, also voiced fears that people may have donated towards a high-profile online fundraising campaign without realising that those behind it want to tear down capitalism and abolish the police.

Imarn Ayton a prominent organiser of the Black Lives Matter protests in the UK, believes the campaign has been ‘hijacked’ by a group of far-Left activists

She claimed that Black Lives Matter UK, the campaign group behind the fundraising campaign that has raised more than £1 million, had not been involved in organising the demonstrations.

‘A lot of people assume they were the driving force behind the protest when in actual fact they just support the protests,’ she told The Mail on Sunday.

‘The BLM movement is a separate entity to BLM UK. I have no contact with BLM UK and they have not been on the ground once.

‘The issue with BLM UK is they have not revealed themselves, they have not been transparent. They are abolitionists, they believe in the removal of prisons, smashing capitalism and abolishing the police.’

The activist and actress said she organised the Black Lives Matter rally in London’s Parliament Square on June 6 which left one policewoman severely injured after a fall

BLM UK was formed in 2016 but rose to prominence this year after the death of George Floyd in the US and a campaign in Britain to take down statues of figures linked to slavery or colonialism.

The group’s Twitter feed, which has the same distinctive black and yellow colour scheme as the US campaign, has 74,000 followers and its Instagram page has 78,000.

A crowdfunding campaign launched by the group on June 2 has attracted 34,500 donations totalling £1.1 million. But opposition has grown over BLM UK’s far-Left policy agenda and a tweet posted last week criticising Israel.

The leadership of the group also remains secret.

Meanwhile, The Mail on Sunday has learnt that GoFundMe remains in control of BLM UK’s fund while it checks on where the money will go.

The online crowdfunder has been carrying out what it describes as ‘vetting’ for more than two weeks.

‘No funds have been withdrawn. We require a verified bank account for withdrawal and insist on transparency on use of funds,’ a spokesman said.

Ms Ayton said BLM UK had used a skilful social media campaign – and taken advantage of a leadership vacuum among other groups – to position itself at the forefront of the BLM campaign.

‘They have hijacked taking credit for this movement,’ she said. ‘In terms of this movement, they did not organise, they did not lead it, they were not involved in 20,000 people on the streets.’

She added: ‘I am just mortified because everyone has given money and they are not going to use that to better the black community. They are going to use it to abolish the police, remove prisons and get rid of capitalism.

Ms Ayton said Black Lives Matter UK, the campaign group behind the fundraising campaign that has raised more than £1 million had used a skilful social media campaign to position itself at the forefront of the BLM campaign

‘Why on earth would you donate £1 million to people that are not actually doing anything for the black community here and now?’

Ms Ayton, of Peckham, South London, said she was building an alternative ‘black reformist movement’ that will call on the Government to implement the findings of a series of reviews on ethnic injustices.

Her rally on June 20 was criticised by BLM UK, which posted on Instagram that protests were being ‘hijacked by reformists’, adding: ‘Remember: all skin folk are not kinfolk.’

Ms Ayton said she was building an alternative ‘black reformist movement’ that will call on the Government to implement the findings of a series of reviews on ethnic injustices

'Munira Mirza must go!' chant Black Lives Matter protesters

Last week, the Premier League issued a statement saying that its support of Black Lives Matter was not an endorsement of ‘any political organisation or movement’ and said it was ‘aware of the risk posed by groups that seek to hijack popular causes and campaigns to promote their own political views’.

Premier League footballers have played matches wearing shirts emblazoned with Black Lives Matter instead of their names and have ‘taken the knee’ in a protest against racism before kick off.

The league last night declined to comment on whether it had carried out any due diligence on BLM UK before launching its Black Lives Matter campaign.

Are there really some stupid people involved in BLM who did not realise they were involved in a loony left wing organisation, I have known that from day one

Obviously Black Lives do NOT matter to a great many black people

Both US and UK have black killings by a black person as the main cause of death in young black men

And even worse than that is the high rate of abortions

Image

According to the Alan Guttmacher Institute, black women are more than 5 times as likely as white women to have an abortion

On average, 1,876 black babies are aborted every day in the United States.

This incidence of abortion has resulted in a tremendous loss of life. It has been estimated that since 1973 Black women have had about 16 million abortions. Michael Novak had calculated "Since the number of current living Blacks (in the U.S.) is 36 million, the missing 16 million represents an enormous loss, for without abortion.

America's Black community would now number 52 million persons. It would be 36 percent larger than it is. Abortion has swept through the Black community like a scythe, cutting down every fourth member."

A highly significant 1993 Howard University study showed that African American women over age 50 were 4.7 times more likely to get breast cancer if they had had any abortions compared to women who had not had any abortions.

My Nigerian great-grandfather sold slaves

Amid the global debate about race relations, colonialism and slavery, some of the Europeans and Americans who made their fortunes in trading human beings have seen their legacies reassessed, their statues toppled and their names removed from public buildings

Nigerian journalist and novelist Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani writes that one of her ancestors sold slaves, but argues that he should not be judged by today's standards or values

My great-grandfather, Nwaubani Ogogo Oriaku, was what I prefer to call a businessman, from the Igbo ethnic group of south-eastern Nigeria. He dealt in a number of goods, including tobacco and palm produce. He also sold human beings.

"He had agents who captured slaves from different places and brought them to him," my father told me.

Nwaubani Ogogo's slaves were sold through the ports of Calabar and Bonny in the south of what is today known as Nigeria.

People from ethnic groups along the coast, such as the Efik and Ijaw, usually acted as stevedores for the white merchants and as middlemen for Igbo traders like my great-grandfather.

They loaded and offloaded ships and supplied the foreigners with food and other provisions. They negotiated prices for slaves from the hinterlands, then collected royalties from both the sellers and buyers.

About 1.5 million Igbo slaves were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean between the 15th and 19th Centuries.

More than 1.5 million Africans were shipped to what was then called the New World - the Americas - through the Calabar port, in the Bight of Bonny, making it one of the largest points of exit during the transatlantic trade.

The only life they knew

Nwaubani Ogogo lived in a time when the fittest survived and the bravest excelled. The concept of "all men are created equal" was completely alien to traditional religion and law in his society.

Assessing the people of Africa's past by today's standards would compel us to cast the majority of our heroes as villains"

It would be unfair to judge a 19th Century man by 21st Century principles.

Assessing the people of Africa's past by today's standards would compel us to cast the majority of our heroes as villains, denying us the right to fully celebrate anyone who was not influenced by Western ideology.

Igbo slave traders like my great-grandfather did not suffer any crisis of social acceptance or legality. They did not need any religious or scientific justifications for their actions. They were simply living the life into which they were raised.

That was all they knew

The most popular story I've heard about my great-grandfather was how he successfully confronted officials of the British colonial government after they seized some of his slaves.

The slaves were being transported by middlemen, along with a consignment of tobacco and palm produce, from Nwaubani Ogogo's hometown of Umuahia to the coast.

Buying and selling of human beings among the Igbo had been going on long before the Europeans arrived. People became slaves as punishment for crime, payment for debts, or prisoners of war.

The successful sale of adults was considered an exploit for which a man was hailed by praise singers, akin to exploits in wrestling, war, or in hunting animals like the lion.

Igbo slaves served as domestic servants and labourers. They were sometimes also sacrificed in religious ceremonies and buried alive with their masters to attend to them in the next world.

Slavery was so ingrained in the culture that a number of popular Igbo proverbs make reference to it:
Anyone who has no slave is his own slave

A slave who looks on while a fellow slave is tied up and thrown into the grave with his master should realise that the same thing could be done to him someday

It is when the son is being given advice that the slave learns
The arrival of European merchants offering guns, mirrors, gin, and other exotic goods in exchange for humans massively increased demand, leading people to kidnap others and sell them.

How slaves were traded in Africa

European buyers tended to remain on the coast
African sellers brought slaves from the interior on foot
Journeys could be as long as 485km (300 miles)
Two captives were typically chained together at the ankle
Columns of captives were tied together by ropes around their necks
10%-15% of captives died on the way
Resisting abolition

The trade in African people continued until 1888, when Brazil became the last country in the Western hemisphere to abolish it.

We think this trade must go on.That is the verdict of our oracle and our priests"

When the British extended their rule to south-eastern Nigeria in the late 19th Century and early 20th Century, they began to enforce abolition through military action.

But by using force rather than persuasion, many local people such as my great-grandfather may not have understood that abolition was about the dignity of humankind and not a mere change in economic policy that affected demand and supply.

"We think this trade must go on," one local king in Bonny infamously said in the 19th Century.

"That is the verdict of our oracle and our priests. They say that your country, however great, can never stop a trade ordained by God."

As far as my great-grandfather was concerned, he had a bona fide trading licence from the Royal Niger Company, a British company that administered commerce in the region in the last quarter of the 19th Century.

So when his property was seized, an aggrieved Nwaubani Ogogo boldly went to see the colonial officers responsible and presented them with his licence. They released his goods, and his slaves.

Slave trade in the 20th Century

Acclaimed Igbo historian Adiele Afigbo described the slave trade in south-eastern Nigeria which lasted until the late 1940s and early 1950s as one of the best kept secrets of the British colonial administration.

While the international trade ended, the local trade continued.

"The government was aware of the fact that the coastal chiefs and the major coastal traders had continued to buy slaves from the interior," wrote Afigbo in The Abolition of the Slave Trade in Southern Nigeria: 1885 to 1950.

He added that the British tolerated the ongoing trade on political and economic grounds.

Image caption British traders were at the heart of the slave trade, before the UK government abolished the trade

They needed the slave-trading chiefs for effective local governance, and for the expansion and growth of legitimate trade.

Sometimes, they also turned a blind eye rather than jeopardise a useful alliance, as seems to have been the case when they returned Nwaubani Ogogo's slaves.

That incident deified Nwaubani Ogogo among his people. Here was a man who successfully confronted the white powers from overseas. I have heard the story from relatives, and have read about it.

It was also the beginning of a relationship of mutual respect with the colonialists that led to Nwaubani Ogogo being appointed a paramount chief by the British administration.

He was the government's representative to the people in his region, in a system known as indirect rule.

How the UK abolished slavery

1833 Parliament outlawed slavery in most British colonies

    1834 Law took effect

    800,000slaves were freed

£20m allocated to pay for "damages" suffered by owners

    0compensation for freed slaves
Records from the UK's National Archives at Kew Gardens show how desperately the British struggled to end the internal trade in slaves for almost the entire duration of the colonial period.

They promoted legitimate trade, especially in palm produce. They introduced English currency to replace the cumbersome brass rods and cowries that merchants needed slaves to carry. They prosecuted offenders with prison sentences.

"By the 1930s, the colonial establishment had been worn down," wrote Afigbo.

"As a result, they had come to place their hope for the extirpation of the trade on the corrosive effect over time of education and general civilisation."

Working with the British

As a paramount chief, Nwaubani Ogogo collected taxes on behalf of the British and earned a commission for himself in the process.

He presided over cases in native courts. He supplied labourers for the construction of rail lines. He also willingly donated land for missionaries to build churches and schools.

Adaobi Tricia Nwaubani

My great-grandfather is renowned for his business prowess, strong leadership, immense contribution to society, and advancement of Christianity"

The house where I grew up and where my parents still live sits on a piece of land that has been in my family for over a century.

It was once the site of Nwaubani Ogogo's guest house, where he hosted visiting British officials. They sent him envelopes containing snippets of their hair to let him know whenever they were due to arrive.

Nwaubani Ogogo died sometime in the early 20th Century. He left behind dozens of wives and children. No photographs exist of him but he was said to have been remarkably light-skinned.

In December 2017, a church in Okaiuga in Abia State of south-eastern Nigeria was celebrating its centenary and invited my family to receive a posthumous award on his behalf.

Their records showed that he had provided an armed escort for the first missionaries in the area.

My great-grandfather was renowned for his business prowess, outstanding boldness, strong leadership, vast influence, immense contributions to society, and advancement of Christianity.

The Igbo do not have a culture of erecting monuments to their heroes - otherwise one dedicated to him might have stood somewhere in the Umuahia region today.

"He was respected by everyone around," my father said. "Even the white people respected him."

Two teen boys are shot dead
playing basketball in Brooklyn

Surveillance video captures the moment a gunman hangs out of a car sunroof and shoots dead two teen boys playing basketball in NYC - in a weekend of mayhem that saw eight murdered in 24 hours and protests descend into riots

There were seven murders and 15 shootings across New York City in just 24 hours on Sunday

Among those killed was a 16-year-old and 18-year-old boy who were shot dead at a basketball court in Brooklyn's Cypress Hills neighborhood at about 6.40pm

Police released surveillance footage on Monday showing the gunman hanging out of a car sunroof as he fired in the drive by shooting

The murder spree came after peaceful protests in support Portland's demonstrations against police brutality descended into violence on Saturday

Some demonstrators went on to wreak havoc and spark clashes with police as they slashed NYPD vehicle tires and set fire to trash cans

At least 14 people were arrested during the protests but it is not yet clear if they stemmed from incidents on Saturday night
Police have released surveillance footage of the moment a gunman stood up through a car's sunroof and shot dead two teenage boys playing basketball in New York in a weekend of mayhem that saw eight people murdered in just 24 hours.

Three teenage boys, aged 16, 17 and 18, were all shot while they were playing basketball in Brooklyn's Cypress Hills neighborhood on Sunday at about 6.40pm.

The 16-year-old died at the scene and the 18-year-old, who was shot in the head, died later in hospital. The 17-year-old was shot in the leg and remains in a stable condition in hospital.

NYPD chief detective Rodney Harrison released the surveillance video on Monday that shows the gunman standing through the sunroof as he fired at the group.

Three teenage boys, aged 16, 17 and 18, were all shot while they were playing basketball in Brooklyn's Cypress Hills neighborhood on Sunday at about 6.40pm by a man who was standing through a car sunroof

'Yesterday, at approximately 6.40pm, an unknown male opened fire while hanging out of the sunroof of a late model Honda CRV at George Walker Jr. Park,' he said.

'The perpetrator struck three people, killing two innocent teenagers playing basketball.'

Police are still searching for the gunman and the victims have not yet been named.

The deaths of the two teenagers are among eight murders that took place across the city in just 24 hours on Sunday.

Seven of those eight killings were shootings.

Four people, including the two teens, were shot dead in separate shootings in Brooklyn and Queens, while four were killed in the Bronx.

Two others were killed in Staten Island and Manhattan.

Also in Brooklyn, a 32-year-old man was found shot in the chest and face outside a Flatbush apartment building at about 7pm.

A transgender woman was found stabbed to death in the hallway of an apartment building on West 192nd St in Manhattan at about 1.35am.

Only a few of the shooting victims have been named, including Grashino Yancy who died on Staten Island after being shot in the leg at about 12.45am on Sunday.

The number of shootings across New York City have spiked 176 percent in the last week compared to this time last year - as a weekend of mayhem saw seven people murdered in 24 hours and protests descend into riots in Manhattan

Chaos on NY streets as BLM protest turns into battle with cops

In the Bronx, 37-year-old James Connor was shot in the head at 3.10am before 24-year-old Juancarlos Ortega was also shot in the head two hours later in a separate incident.

Shaka Ifill, 40, was shot in the back in Queens in what police are investigating as a possible domestic incident. He told investigators that his mother or girlfriend shot him before later dying in hospital.

The number of shootings across New York City have spiked 176 percent in the last week compared to this time last year - as a weekend of mayhem saw seven people murdered in 24 hours and protests descend into riots in Manhattan.

There were 47 shootings across the city last week compared to the 17 at the same time last year

Fourteen of the 47 shootings were murders, while there were only five killings for the same week in 2019, police sources told the New York Post.

The murder spree came after peaceful protests in support Portland's demonstrations against police brutality descended into violence on Saturday.

Hundreds of protesters marched over the Brooklyn Bridge and into downtown Manhattan amid a wave of anger across the country over President Donald Trump's planned 'surge' of federal agents into main cities.

Some demonstrators went on to wreak havoc and spark clashes with police as they slashed NYPD vehicle tires and set fire to trash cans as people were dining nearby at outdoor restaurants.

At least 14 people were arrested during the protests but it is not yet clear if they stemmed from incidents on Saturday night.

New black power militia

Black power militia says they're done talking, don't want to negotiate: ‘F**k BLM...we don’t bring signs to a gunfight'

A video of a group being described as a “black power militia” features scores of heavily armed men clad in black being encouraged by their leader to use deadly force against white people if they are confronted.

The video appears to feature the same group of armed black men who ‘demonstrated’ near Stone Mountain, Ga., on Saturday, taunting “scared-a**” white “rednecks” and demanding that black people be given Texas to inhabit as their own racially pure country.

The black power militia has declared themselves seperate from BLM, no whites allowed. pic.twitter.com/25UQkrwjGb

    — Jack Dawkins (@Oliversmate) July 4, 2020
“I’m gonna say this one time and I mean it,” the group leader says as he addresses members formed up in ranks. “F**k Black Lives Matter. We don’t f**k with them. We don’t talk. We don’t sing. We ain’t tryin’ to overcome.

“We ain’t tryin’ to hold hand with you no more,” the leader continued. “We don’t give a f**k about your rainbow. This is for black people. We can’t never have nothing to our damned self. So we gonna have this to our damned self.”

The leader then tells his group the “rules of engagement” for their march.

“Do not point your weapon at anybody unless they do something to you first,” he said. “Under Georgia law, you have the right to use deadly force to kill they a**. And I expect that out of every last one of you motherf**kers out here today.”

“If you ain’t never fired your weapon before, this ain’t the time to learn,” he continued. “If s**t pop off get the f**k outta the way and let those of us that trained to do it do our job.”

He also said he didn’t expect anyone to take a bullet for anyone else and “be a hero.”

“Where we going, they ain’t gonna like us. Where we goin’, they said we not supposed to be,” the leader noted further. “Where we goin’, we goin’ because we can.”

He then advised his group not to “react” no matter what anyone says to them. However, “if they touch you, it’s self-defense,” he added, which appears to suggest that members would be free to open fire.

“Y’all understand that?” the leader asked.

“Ain’t nobody out here trying to grow a brain on they own and get a bunch of innocent people killed out this motherf**ker,” he said before ordering the group to “fall out.”

Earlier, reports noted that the group identifies as NFAC — literally standing for “Not F*cking Around Coalition” — and its leader calls himself Grand Master Jay.

Videos showed the leader discussing the group’s demands, which include a black ethnostate within the U.S.

“The solution is very simple,” he responded. “We file a declaration of liberation, declaring every African-American descendant of slavery a political prisoner here in the United States, that was affected by the Portuguese slave trade, and after that, the United States then has a choice, either carve us a piece of land out here — we’ll take Texas — and let us do our own thing, or don’t stop us when we exit this body here and go somewhere where they will give us our own land to build our own nation.

Continuing, he said, “We don’t want to talk no more, we don’t want to negotiate. We don’t want to sing songs, we don’t bring signs to a gunfight. We’re an eye for an eye organization. So when they decide to act right, we’ll act right. And we do it all legally.”

Chicago's Magnificent Mile

Looters ransacked Chicago's Magnificent Mile shopping district in the early hours of Monday morning as police in the city dealt with escalating tensions elsewhere after a crowd of residents in a South Side neighborhood gathered in protest having been told, incorrectly, that cops shot a child

The chaos began on Sunday afternoon when police responded to Englewood where there had been complaints of a man with a gun. The suspect has not been named. When officers arrived at the scene, he began running and opened fire on them as they pursued him. The cops returned fire, wounding him, and arrested him. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

A different story spread among residents of the neighborhood who were told that the police officers had inadvertently shot a child. Crowds gathered in protest, creating a tense stand-off that lasted several hours and was described by Deputy Police Chief Yolanda Talley as 'very hostile'.

Much later, the looting occurred. Videos taken at the scene show cars plowing through store fronts to give the crowds quick access to the goods inside.

On Monday morning, police were still arresting people at a Best Buy which was among the stores that had been ransacked. Some of the city's bridges were raised and tunnels were closed while police tried to regain control of the city.

It was one of a handful of incidents of unrest across America that coincided with the sixth anniversary of Michael Brown's death.

There was continued unrest in Portland, Oregon, where protesters have been standing their ground for 74 days now and where a riot has officially been declared because of the relentless chaos.

In Ferguson, Missouri - where Brown, 18, was shot dead by police in 2014 - there were mostly peaceful protests and memorial services in his honor but as the night wore on, looters pillaged stores.
