Protest over park attacks on six women

About 80 people have taken part in a protest calling for more safety measures after six women were attacked in two months at a south London park

The Met Police said four of the victims were sexually assaulted and urged women to stay "vigilant" when visiting Croydon's South Norwood Country Park.

Jane Nicholl, of community group the South Norwood Tourist Board (SNTB), criticised a lack of police patrols.

She urged women not to walk alone until the attacker is caught.

All the attacks - which police are linking - happened on weekdays between 10:50 and 16:30 BST and five of the women targeted had had their dogs with them at the time.

The women were either walking or jogging when they were attacked.

In four of the cases, the attacker either stole - or tried to steal - the women's mobile phones.

'No warnings'

"Walking around country park on our walk today we didn't see one member of the police force," said Ms Nicholl.

"There are no signs warning women they are not safe.

"The attacks have been going on for a period of a couple of months now and there have been no warnings to be careful."

The man wanted in connection with all the attacks has been described as black, aged between 16 and 25, tall, thin and with dark hair.

Police said they were "working hard" to identify the suspect and the offences are believed to be linked.

The Met has been approached for comment in regards to claims of a lack of patrols in the area.

One of the victims told the BBC she was grabbed from behind while jogging with her neighbour's dog on 3 May.

She said she had seen a teenager with an "innocent face" round the corner, but the same boy ended up assaulting her near the train tracks.

The woman, who has an 11-year-old daughter, then managed to kick her attacker, who then ran away.

She pointed out how schoolgirls had been returning from home through the park, and said: "I'm just relieved he chose me and not them because I don't know if they can look after themselves while I can."

She added the protest "sends a message to anyone else thinking to come to the park to get lucky that it's not going to work because we're going to stand together and get our park back."

It is shameful that innocent women cannot walk through a park X(

Pregnant woman stabbed to death

A heavily pregnant woman who was stabbed to death has been named as Kelly Mary Fauvrelle

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering the 26-year-old, who was pronounced dead at a house in Croydon, south London, early on Saturday.

Her baby was delivered at the scene by paramedics and is in hospital in a critical condition.

Police said a 29-year-old was in custody and a 37-year-old had been released under investigation.

Both men were arrested on Saturday. Scotland Yard said it was keeping an "open mind as to motive".

Det Ch Insp Mick Norman described it as "a horrific incident" and said the force's "sympathies go out to [the woman's] devastated family".

"At the forefront of our inquiries is understanding what exactly has led to these tragic circumstances, and we are doing everything we can to establish the facts."

Medics fought to save the mother, who is believed to have been about eight months pregnant, after being called at about 03:30 BST.

An air ambulance, two ambulance crews and two response cars were sent to the scene by London Ambulance Service.

A cordon is in place around the whole of Raymead Avenue, Thornton Heath, where the attack happened.

One neighbour paid tribute to the victim, describing her as a "nice girl", while another said she believed three women lived at the house, along with a small dog.

One resident, who lives two doors down, said she heard the animal barking when she got up at about 03.30 for prayers and added she was "shocked and surprised" to hear about the attack.

Forensics teams remain at the house, where officers could be seen swabbing an alleyway running alongside the property, while police officers are on guard at the front.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held.

On Twitter, London mayor Sadiq Khan said: "Violence against women is endemic in society and devastating murders in the home, like this one, show the scale of the problem we face.

"My prayers are with this innocent child, and with the mother it has so tragically lost."

There can never be a reason to stab a pregnant woman - there is no punishment severe enough for the perpetrator

Stadium worker on way home among
four dead in 48 hours in London

A young man on his way home from work is believed to have been gunned down in a park last night, making him the fourth person to be murdered in a weekend of bloodshed

Kwasi Mensah-Ababio, 26, was found slumped on a bench with serious head injuries shortly after 7pm in Monks Park, Wembley — less than 200 yards from the scene of a fatal shooting two days earlier.

Scotland Yard said he was pronounced dead at the scene. It was the capital's third fatal shooting of the weekend.

His devastated family today described him as a “lovely, innocent family boy” who was returning home after finishing a shift at Wembley stadium.

The weekend’s killings brought the total number of violent deaths in the capital to 72 this year.

The scene in Wembley where a young man was found beaten to death on a park bench on Sunday

Mr Mensah-Ababio’s mother broke down as she visited the scene last night, sobbing: “He wasn’t just my son, he was my best friend.”

Devastated friends and relatives gathered at the family home today. His sister said: “He was a wonderful boy, he was innocent and never in any trouble. He loved his family.”

His godmother, Nanna Yaa, said: “He was a quiet boy, one of the best. We are in shock. He was never in trouble, he was hard-working.”

An aunt added: “This is devilish what is going on. How can we stop it? This isn’t fair, it’s not fair for any family. It was just him and his sister and his mother. He had finished university, he had a good job, and he worked as much as he could at the stadium.”

A witness said: “He was dead when we found him. Why do they keep doing this to each other?”

Mr Mensah-Ababio’s killing came almost exactly 48 hours after another man, named locally as rapper Craig “Smallz” Walters, was shot dead in Harrow Road less than 200 yards away on Friday. The father-of-three died in hospital.

A friend said: “Smallz has nothing to do with it, he was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. I heard that two guys pulled up on a scooter. One jumped off and did the shooting with a handgun.

"It’s all postcode stuff. Smallz was a nice guy who loved his music, nothing more. It’s crazy on the streets right now.”

Karl Wilson — Konan in MOBO-winning grime duo Krept and Konan — posted a tribute online, writing “rest up bro”.

A woman’s body was found in garages in Blackheath on Friday

A man in his late twenties was also shot dead outside a snooker club in Leyton at 3am yesterday.

He had gone to the Phoenix snooker club in Lea Bridge Road with two friends when an argument broke out with another group and several shots were fired, police said.

Akan Avci, 23, was working a night shift at a nearby fruit and vegetable store.

He told the Standard: “I just heard four times gunshots. Then I heard screaming but I couldn’t understand [what they were saying]. The police came and closed the road — I didn’t go outside.”

The killing took place less than 500 yards from where teenager Jaden Moodie, 14, was knifed to death in January.

A murder probe has been opened after a woman’s body was discovered in disused garages in Prendergast Road, Blackheath, on Friday.

Officers investigating her death have made three arrests on suspicion of murder, Scotland Yard said today.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on Sunday, a 49-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man were arrested on Monday.

Amanda Gretton, 57, had been missing from Hither Green since May 14. A relative said: “She will be missed by all her family.”

Resident Alice Williams, 42, said the garages had been used by rough sleepers, adding: “We had all been concerned for some time. I am so sorry to know someone has been found dead.”

Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Tucker said: “The Met is working to do all we can to prevent such attacks and are determined to apprehend those involved. Those near crime scenes can expect an enhanced policing presence in their area.

"Officers will be on hand to listen to any concerns and continue to appeal for those with information to come forward.” ... 84806.html

Teenager becomes London's 76th murder victim
this year after being knifed to death in triple stabbing

Terrifying attacks unfolded in Purley, South London, at around 9.10pm
Man in his late teens was treated by paramedics but died at the scene
Diners at a Pizza Express restaurant fled as the incident went on nearby
A teenager yesterday became London's 76th murder victim this year after being knifed to death in a horrific triple stabbing.

Diners fled in terror from a Pizza Express restaurant on Brighton Road in Purley, south London, as the attacks unfolded at around 9.10pm, before police and paramedics flooded the area.

A man in his late teens was treated at the scene but died at 9.50pm. Two other men were found with stab injuries nearby, and one was arrested on suspicion of murder.

A man has been charged with attempted murder after the fatal stabbing of a teenager in Purley, which is part of Croydon.

A witness told MyLondon: 'The whole road [has been] closed with about 10 police cars. There was a stabbing on the High Street and then a stabbing at the station.

'We were told they were both linked. We had to leave Pizza Express out of the back door.'

A second man, also believed to be in his late teens, was found nearby with stab wounds and has been taken to a south London hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. He is in a stable condition.

A third man in his late teens was found close to Purley Railway Station with a slash wound.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and taken to a south London hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Met.

Two other men, whose ages are not known, have been arrested on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon. They remain in custody at South London police stations.

Numerous crime scenes have been set up around Brighton Road, where a section 60, giving police special search powers, is also in place.

The victim of the fatal stabbing in Purley - which is part of the London Borough of Croydon - has not been identified.

His death was the 76th murder in London this year, and came two days after fatal stabbing in Greenwich which killed a man in his 20s.

It followed the fatal shooting of a man in his early 20s, in Wembley, on Sunday.

Another young man was stabbed in Canning Town, east London, this morning, according to the Met.

Officers were called at 7.40am to Barking Road, near the junction with Ordnance Road, and found a man with stab wounds believed to be aged in his 20s.

His condition is not yet known and no arrests have been made, the force said.

Killer knife mob runs riot in Purley
leaving one dead and two injured

A teenage boy was stabbed to death in a running brawl in a suburban high street. Two other youths were slashed as the fight raged through the centre of Purley, South of Croydon

Paramedics battled to save the 19-year-old, named locally as Kye Manning, in the street. He died 40 minutes later, just before 10pm last night.

Diners at a Pizza Express were forced to leave through a rear door after the group clashed outside.

Witnesses likened the emergency response to the aftermath of a terror attack as a police cordon was thrown across much of the town centre.

Kye’s killing marks the sixth murder investigation opened in London in seven days, and brings the number of violent deaths to 74 this year.

Graham Laban, 52, a rough-sleeper who disarmed one of the knife suspects, said: “There was a lad standing near the dying boy carrying two kitchen knives. They were about eight inches long. I took them off him.”

Police today said a second teenager was in a stable condition with injuries that are not life-threatening. A third casualty was found close to nearby Purley rail station suffering a slash wound.

He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Two other male teenagers arrested nearby remained in custody on suspicion of possessing weapons.

Kye’s friends and family cleaned up blood and laid flowers at the spot where he died. A card on one tribute read: “RIP Kye, I’ll never forget you bro.” A friend said: “He was a beautiful boy, he loved his family. We are devastated.”

The latest killing came less than 24 hours after Leo Marcus, 22, was stabbed to death near his home in Kidbrooke, Greenwich.

A man in his forties was shot in Malvern Drive, Woodford Green, at around 11.10pm last night.

He remains in a critical condition. At 7.40am today, a man in his twenties was stabbed in Barking Road, Newham. His condition was not known. ... 88461.html

In the US much of black violence and crime, is attributed to poverty. Which is actually rubbish because the vast majority of black people living in poverty do not go around shooting people

In the UK we do not have that level of poverty

Purley certainly does not have any poverty and is not a run down inner city area

I used to live there and I remember the first black family to move into the area. They bought a large house close to Green Belt land

One of the sons robbed the milkman. I wondered at the time if he was mentally deficient in some way, because he must have been the easiest ever criminal to catch =))

Now I am seriously starting to wonder !?!

Why is it that most of the black criminals are either Jamaican, of Jamaican decent or African NOT from the smaller West Indian islands such as Barbados or Trinidad

It has taken years for the powers that be to even admit there is a problem with crime and violence within the black community

I am a youth and community worker have know this for a great many years

These young people are killing each other

More than that, many THOUSANDS of innocent people live in close proximity to these thugs and spent their lives in FEAR
