Gang film themselves smashing
windows and setting fire to home

Trio of hooded yobs use metal bars and bricks to smash windows in the video

Carried out the nighttime attack in Wembley, west London, over the weekend

Man is seen lighting material then using it to set fire to a car in shocking clip
The footage shows a trio of hooded yobs using metal bars and bricks to smash windows before torching the property and a car and van nearby.

The clip of the night attack, which happened in Wembley, west London, emerged on social media at the weekend but it is not known when it happened.

Brazen gang film themselves setting house and car on fire

This is the shocking moment a brazen gang film themselves as they set fire to a home and vehicles parked outside.

A picture of the same fire-damaged van emerged on social media this morning. The video shows one yob getting out of car and filming his colleague who smashes a car window by using a metal bar.

Another man is then filmed lighting material and setting fire to the car, which bursts into flames. The man with the metal bar repeats the process on the truck and then runs towards a house, whilst the arsonist sets the truck on fire.

At this point all three men are surrounding the house as they smash up windows using a metal bar and throwing bricks. Each window shatters as the yobs try to leave no window untouched.

A scream can then be heard as the three assailants make their getaway. The video has stunned many viewers on social media. Kauthar Miah said: 'Looks like a targeted attack.'

Carly Hoban added: 'I really hope children weren't in that house. No kid deserves that.'

Sammie Jay wrote: 'This is just disgusting how people do this. They must be caught.'

Mohamed Ahmed Warsame said: 'This is clearly attempted murder.' Fee Dowler added: 'Oh my god. I hope to god no one was hurt. This is absolutely disgusting.'

The incident appears to have happened at the junction of Tudor Court North and Tudor Court South. The arches of Wembley Stadium, about a mile away, are visible from the street.

A photograph of the torched white truck was also shared to the Facebook page 'Stolen Cars Uk' by Gabor Gabriel today (thu). He wrote: 'Anyone had a Transit stolen? Found it in Wembley.' The number plate of the torched truck appears to match that of the truck in the video.'

Police officer killed while
investigating burglary

A police officer has been killed while investigating a suspected burglary, Thames Valley Police said

PC Andrew Harper, from the Roads Policing Proactive Unit based at Abingdon Police Station, died after visiting the scene near the A4 at Sulhamstead in Berkshire.

The scene of the killing, which happened around 11.30pm on Thursday was around a mile from Thames Valley Police's training centre.

Thames Valley Police said ten people have been arrested on suspicion of murder including a 13-year-old child.

They are currently in police custody at various police stations across the Thames Valley.

Ufton Lane and Lambdens Hill remain closed, but the A4, Bath Road has since re-opened.

Deputy Chief Constable Jason Hogg said: “Our deepest thoughts at this time are of course with Andrew’s friends and family, who are being supported by specially trained family liaison officers.

“Our thoughts also extend to all of Andrew’s colleagues within Thames Valley Police.

“As a force we are devastated at the loss of our colleague and will all be supporting each other at this difficult time.”

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Blaik, of the Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident, and I would like to reassure the public as well as our officers and staff that we have launched a full and thorough investigation to establish what has happened.

“We have made a total of ten arrests in connection with this incident, and those arrested are currently in police custody. Those arrested are all male and aged between 13 and 30.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to get in touch. If you have any information which you think could be at all relevant to our investigation, no matter how insignificant it may seem, please leave details on our website."

Thames Valley Police refused to release any further details, including how and where PC Harper died

Teenager stabbed to death in
Brixton after fist bump with killer

A teenager was stabbed to death trying to protect a young woman in London’s latest street murder, friends said today

Solomon Small, 18, was knifed in a road of terraced Victorian houses in Brixton at about 2pm yesterday.

His killer gave him a “fist bump”, before slashing him in the neck and chest in front of the terrified girl who fled for her own safety, witnesses said.

Medics battled to save Solomon in the street but he was pronounced dead 40 minutes later. His distraught mother was heard screaming “My son, my son” as she rushed to the scene from her home nearby.

His killing marks the 91st murder investigation launched in the capital so far this year. He is the 16th teenager to be murdered in London in 2019, and the second stabbed to death in the capital this week.

Witnesses said the victim, who was training to be a mechanic, was attacked as he walked with a young woman in Corrance Road, where family houses sell for £900,000.

A 17-year-old boy was arrested in nearby Tremadoc Road shortly after the attack and was being questioned by detectives today.

A friend said: “Someone followed them and Solomon knew who he was, so he gave him a fist bump.

“But the girl he was with saw that the guy had a knife and got in between Solomon and the guy. Solomon grabbed the guy and told her to run. As he did that, the guy stabbed him.

“She ran off but she could see Solomon getting stabbed in the neck and chest.

The attack happened at around 2pm yesterday afternoon

“He wasn’t a confrontational person at all. He was doing an apprenticeship as a mechanic. His mum only lives up the road so he was probably going to visit her.”

A friend of the victim said he was a “loving person” who was not involved in gangs and had been raised near to where he was killed.

One friend said: “I know people who were close to the situation. There was tenner owed that’s what it was all about. That’s why he stabbed him, all over that. What a waste.”

Another said: “It was all over a debt. It’s all about money.”

Mohammad Iqbal who runs newsagent BK Enterprises said the murdered teenager was a regular in his shop.

He said: “He was a nice boy, always polite and never any trouble for me. I am so shocked. His mum is lovely.”

A family friend, who was one of the last people to speak to Solomon, said: “I think they targeted him because they didn’t think he carried a knife. I think he was in the wrong place and was attacked.”

A neighbour of his family added: “He was a good guy, he didn’t deserve this. I can’t believe he was lying there in broad daylight.”

Lambeth councillor Sonia Winifred said: “I know this young man I saw him often walking up and down in area and it’s upsetting for families and young people.”

The capital’s latest killing came less than three days after another teenager, Alex Smith, 16, from Brent, died after being attacked in Camden.

A 23-year-old man and an 18-year-old man were today being questioned on suspicion of murder after the “brutal attack” in Munster Square at about 11pm on Monday.

A police officer was killed when he was "dragged along by a vehicle" while attending a reported burglary.

PC Andrew Harper, 28, who got married four weeks ago, died at about 23:30 BST on Thursday in Berkshire.

Thames Valley Police said 10 males, aged between 13 and 30, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and remain in custody at various stations.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson told the BBC the officer's death was a "mindless and brutal crime".

Thames Valley Police Chief Constable John Campbell said the death of PC Harper, an Abingdon-based roads policing officer, had left the entire force "shocked and saddened".

He told a press conference that although the cause of PC Harper's death had not yet been confirmed, he was out of his police car when he was "dragged along by a vehicle".

A cordon has been put in place at the scene near the A4 Bath Road between Reading and Newbury, at the crossroads near to Sulhamstead.

Mr Johnson said the officer's death was "an absolute tragedy " and "the most powerful reminder that police officers up and down the country put themselves at risk every single day to keep us safe".

"My thoughts are with PC Harper's family, friends and colleagues at this terrible time," he added.

Mr Campbell said PC Harper was a "highly regarded, popular member of the team" and his death was a "significant loss" to the force and also to his colleagues and friends.

Members of PC Harper's family paid tributes on social media to the "loveliest person that you will ever meet".

Maureen Shrimpton wrote: "Just a really horrible day. Our grandson Andrew was killed last night while doing his police work.

"So proud of him. Our love goes to his lovely wife, mum and dad, brother and all of his family and friends."

Andy Fiddler, from the Thames Valley Police Federation, added: "This is totally devastating news.

"All our thoughts - and the thoughts of the entire police family across the UK - are with the family, friends and close colleagues of PC Andrew Harper who died last night."

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) said it had been made aware of the officer's death, because of possible issues around a police pursuit, but is not investigating.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said: "PC Harper died in the line of duty protecting the public and his incredible bravery and extraordinary sacrifice will not be forgotten."

Thames Valley Police said it was still trying to establish the exact circumstances in which PC Harper was killed.

The force said PC Harper, who became a regular officer in 2011 after joining as a special constable a year earlier, had attended the reported break-in with a crewmate.

Forensic investigators are at the scene, where two forensic tents have been put up.

Witnesses said officers were seen searching the inside of a grey BMW that was nearby.

The force said it would fly its flags at half-mast "in honour and memory of Andrew".

This took place in a rural area not a large inner city estate - I am surprised police could even find 10 people to arrest

How many police officers
are killed on duty?

[In the past 10 years at least 10 officers have been killed during an incident involving a criminal suspect

The most recent case was the murder in 2017 of PC Keith Palmer, who was stabbed during the Westminster terror attack in 2017.

In 2012, Greater Manchester PCs Fiona Bone and Nicola Hughes were killed in a grenade and firearm attack, while investigating a hoax burglary call.

A number of the other cases have involved officers being struck by vehicles driven by suspects.

Violence against officers is a common occurrence. In the year to March, there were 30,977 assaults on police officers and a third of these resulted in injury.

The attack on PC Harper is the third time in recent weeks an officer has been seriously hurt in the line of duty.

Metropolitan police constable Stuart Outten was stabbed in the head on 8 August.

Days later a 42-year-old West Midlands Police officer suffered serious head and pelvic injuries when he was run over with his own vehicle.

Murdered officer hit by
a police dog vehicle

A police officer attending a burglary was dragged beneath a van for several hundred yards before being hit by a police dog vehicle responding to the incident, according to reports

PC Andrew Harper, 28, was attending the scene in Sulhamstead, near Reading, before being dragged down the road when he was hit by a Seat van at 11.30pm on Thursday.

The newlywed officer, who married fiancée Lissie four weeks ago, was thrown from the vehicle's undercarriage before being struck by a police vehicle thought to have been part of a dog unit taking part in the pursuit.

A witness said he heard an officer yelling: 'Stay with me, stay with me, keep breathing,' as PC Harper lay fatally injured in the road.

Newlywed PC Andrew Harper had married his fiancée Lissie on July 18, and they were due to go on honeymoon together next week

Ten people – including a boy of 13 – have been arrested after what Prime Minister Boris Johnson described as a 'mindless and brutal' crime.

Yesterday officers were seen attending a nearby Travellers' site near Burghfield, where inquiries were carried out in relation to the incident.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC), which investigates when someone is hit by a police vehicle, has not yet opened an inquiry by an agreement with the force, it was reported.

Four weeks ago, PC Harper was posing for pictures on his wedding day, and cut the cake with new wife Lissie next to a sign reading 'Happily Ever Harper'.

But yesterday it emerged the 28-year-old officer was the latest victim of Wild West Britain when he was mown down and 'dragged along by a vehicle' while responding to a burglary in Berkshire.

PC Harper and his bride were due to go on honeymoon next week, but late on Thursday night the couple's dreams were shattered in the cruellest fashion when the officer lost his life in the line of duty.

Last night, just over two miles from the crime scene, police were searching a travellers' site, strewn with litter and children's toys.

PC Harper's death triggered a fresh debate over the level of serious crime on Britain's streets. Only yesterday, Richard Atkins QC, the chairman of the Bar Council, warned that criminals were 'going about their business unchallenged'.

MPs from all parties were united in their condemnation of the murder, describing it as 'sickening' and saying police officers had been left 'dangerously exposed'.

Flowers are laid today near to where Thames Valley Police office Andrew Harper was killed

PC Harper had been planning to take part in a charity run at the Dirty Weekend 2020 Burghley, a 20-mile obstacle course, for Children with Cancer UK

Home Secretary Priti Patel, who declared last month that she wanted to see criminals 'feel terror' on the streets, said she was 'devastated and appalled' by PC Harper's murder.

Mr Johnson, who has pledged to hire another 20,000 police officers to get a grip of the problem, said he was 'shocked and appalled' and admitted 'we are seeing too much violent crime on our streets'.

PC Harper's devastated family described the officer – a 'highly regarded' member of Thames Valley Police – as 'the loveliest person that you will ever meet'.

PC Harper's family including his grandmother Maureen and uncle Dale have paid tribute

Ten people were arrested on suspicion of murder after the incident in Berkshire yesterday

PC Harper, who became a regular officer in 2011 after joining as a special constable a year earlier, had attended the reported break-in near the village of Sulhamstead with a colleague at 11.30pm on Thursday night.

While it is unclear exactly what happened or what was being targeted in the burglary, PC Harper was injured on a lane just off the A4 Bath Road between Reading and Newbury – a crossroads next to the 12-bedroom Braeburn Lodge care home.

At an emotional press conference, Chief Constable John Campbell said officers were working 'hard and diligently to find out what happened'. He said: 'What we do know is Andrew had been dragged along by a vehicle', adding that all ten suspects had been arrested within an hour of the incident.

The adventurous couple, shown in picture taking a selfie as on a river on an exotic holiday, were due to go on honeymoon imminently

A resident in nearby Burghfield said a police helicopter hovered over a travellers' site from midnight until about 4am yesterday.

PC Harper married Lissie, also 28, in Oxfordshire on July 18 in the grounds of Ardington House, a listed stately home built in 1720.

Mrs Harper posted wedding pictures online and said the couple 'could not have asked for more'. She added: 'The sun was shining and the venue was incredible.'

PC Harper's uncle Dale Shrimpton, 56, said: 'We are devastated. He was the loveliest person that you will ever meet. I can't begin to tell you how we feel. We all loved him very much. He didn't have a bad bone in his body.'

The couple's family spoke with great pride about the bravery he had shown as his life was taken in the line of duty

The couple married at the luxurious location of Ardington House in Oxfordshire last month

Met Chief Superintendent Sally Benatar wrote on Twitter: 'So sad to read this. PC Harper was the officer in the case when my then husband was arrested for domestic violence in 2016. He was on Thames Valley Response then.

'He was brilliant and gave me the courage to take steps to change my life. I can't thank him enough. He was a top officer.'

PC Harper's death comes after PC Stuart Outten was stabbed in the head in Leyton, east London, on August 8. Days later a 42-year-old West Midlands Police officer suffered serious injuries when he was run over with his own vehicle.

Mr Johnson said: 'The murder of PC Andrew Harper is a mindless and brutal crime and obviously all our thoughts are with his family, his friends and his colleagues.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that he was 'deeply shocked and appalled' by the death of PC Harper, adding that his thought's were with his family, friends and colleagues

'It is the most powerful reminder that police officers up and down the country put themselves at risk every single day to keep us safe,' he said

'When I think of the bravery that PC Andrew Harper showed in intercepting those criminals, I think of the risks that the police run every day to keep us safe.'

He added: 'This is a very rare occurrence, it is an absolute tragedy that a police officer should lose his life in the course of his duties and of course we will do everything we can to keep our officers safe.'

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said the death highlighted the need for a boost to police numbers. He added: 'Let's just think for a moment of the horror of it, but also for the need for more police officers to be able to respond to disorder in our society.'

Home affairs committee chairman Yvette Cooper said: 'Police officers like PC Harper demonstrate extraordinary bravery every day, and his death is a tragic reminder of the immense sacrifices made to keep us safe.'

‘Stay with me…keep breathing’: Colleague reveals he desperately tried to save murdered PC, 28, who was ‘dragged to his death’ by car at scene of burglary

A witness told of the heartbreaking scenes as fellow officers fought to save PC Andrew Harper, 28, after he was mown down by a 'getaway car' on Thursday night, just four weeks after he married his fiancée Lissie.

The householder, who asked not to be named, came out of his home at around 11.30pm on Thursday after hearing a commotion in a lane off the A4 near Reading.

As police worked inside forensic tents near the property yesterday, the witness said: ‘When I came outside I could see one patrol car facing the A4 and the other facing in the other direction. The officer’s crewmate was shouting, saying “Stay with me, stay with me. Keep breathing.” Those words will stay with me.

‘He was crouched over the officer’s body, which was lying on the lane.

‘Ambulances and more police cars arrived – it was like the Blackpool illuminations. I went out into the lane to see if the police needed any help and an officer turned to me and said: “Leave the area – this is a crime scene.”’

Asked if there was a police pursuit in the run-up to PC Harper being hit by the vehicle, Thames Valley Police Chief Constable John Campbell said only that his fallen officer had been involved in a ‘response to a reported burglary’.

The senior officer said PC Harper was a ‘highly regarded, popular member of the team’ who was known across the force.

He said the traffic officer – based at Abingdon, Oxfordshire, around 30 miles from where the incident happened – had been outside his marked patrol car when he was ‘dragged along by a vehicle’, in what was ‘obviously a very distressing’ incident for the colleagues who witnessed it.

Mr Campbell said it had been ‘an extremely dark day’ for his force – and said the fact PC Harper had only been married four weeks added to the force’s ‘angst’ and to that of PC Harper’s family.

He declined to say whether the vehicle which hit PC Harper, who joined the force as a special constable in 2010 and became a police officer a year later, was stolen.

The force’s flags were flying at half-mast as a sign of respect ‘in honour and memory of Andrew’, he said, adding: ‘The officer was well-known across the force so it is felt very personally... by the whole police family.’

Man murdered with 'Rambo'
knife in cigarette row

A man who used a Rambo-style knife with a 10-inch blade to stab a stranger to death following a row over a cigarette has been jailed

Jahmel Riley, 25, was convicted of murdering Dennis Anderson, 39, in the early hours of 10 February.

Riley attacked Mr Anderson at an off-licence on Lordship Lane, East Dulwich, after he had been refused a cigarette.

He was sentenced to a minimum of 23-and-a-half years at the Old Bailey.

Judge Nicholas Hilliard said the killing showed the dangers of carrying knives.

"What might otherwise have been just a verbal disagreement becomes a murder case because the defendant was carrying that terrible weapon," he said.

Jurors heard how Riley had been "hustling" customers at the Pay Less shop for a cigarette, when Mr Anderson responded: "Why are you asking for cigarettes? Why don't you get a job like the rest of us?"

Prosecutor Duncan Atkinson QC said a confrontation then began, where the defendant produced and unsheathed the large Rambo-style knife he was carrying.

Mr Anderson tried to disarm Riley and, as they both fell to the ground outside the store, CCTV showed Riley making a stabbing motion towards Mr Anderson's neck.

Image caption Jahmel Riley, 25, used a "Rambo-style" hunting knife to attack Dennis Anderson

The double-edged knife used in the attack was abandoned at the scene.

Riley claimed Mr Anderson was the aggressor and the stabbing was accidental.

However, prosecutors argued Mr Anderson's injuries "told a very different story", showing a series of deliberate blows to the upper body.

Mr Anderson's partner, Leeane Manzi, said: "On the night that he was so brutally attacked, Dennis showed the heroic qualities that we all knew him for by trying to protect other members of the public and stop the situation escalating.

"This did not surprise us when we found out, as looking out for others summed up Dennis' character."

She added the attack had left their "hearts shattered and our lives turned upside down".

Drugs and gangs fuel 50 per cent
surge in violence at London prison

Peter Clarke, chief inspector of prisons, said the high number of volatile men at Pentonville jail was contributing to the “grave” situation inside, with an average of 40 assaults and 10 fights each month

Other problems included insecure cell windows, prisoners reluctant to leave segregation units because of safety fears, and staff corruption. Mr Clarke also said there was no strategy for reducing the “problematic” flow of drugs into the prison and warned there had been no investigations into violent incidents in the three months prior to his inspection.

There were also significant levels of self-harm, with four inmates committing suicide over the past two years, and “weak” rehabilitation work.

The findings come the day before ministers are due to reveal results from a flagship project to reduce violence and drugs at 10 other prisons, which are expected to show significant progress. But Mr Clarke’s conclusions show that Pentonville is among many prisons still with dire problems, despite previous calls to address the poor standards.

He added: “Violence had increased by 56 per cent since our last inspection, much of which was believed to be caused by gang culture, illicit drug use, associated debt and the presence of more volatile younger prisoners.”

Mr Clarke said that drug availability was “high”, with 45 per cent of prisoners saying that it was “easy” to buy illicit substances. Around a quarter of drug tests by the prison’s security department had also not taken place.

London boy 6 caught
with knife at school

A new report has revealed a six-year-old north London boy was among 1,000 youngsters caught taking knives into school last year

Hundreds of children were caught taking blades onto school premises, figures show, with the youngest aged just four.

Weapons seized by police included machetes, hunting knives, a samurai sword and even a highlighter pen which had its nib changed to a blade.

Figures obtained by 5 News under Freedom of Information laws show a total of 1,144 knife possession offences in schools, where the suspect was a child, were recorded in England, Scotland and Wales last year.

The number of offences more than doubled over the past five years, among the 36 forces in England and Wales that provided comparable data, soaring from 372 in 2014 to 968 last year.

Former teacher David Simmons, who set up the Changing Lives charity, said he was confronted by a six-year-old brandishing a knife while working in a north London school.

"He was threatening other staff members and saying that he was going to stab them so I've gone over trying to calm this child down," he said. "He's then said he's going to stab me and kill me.

"At that age you just wouldn't have thought that a six-year-old should be doing that. Why were they doing that?"

Dyfed-Powys Police were called to one school in Wales by teachers concerned that a four-year-old had a knife.

In Manchester, an 11-year-old, who had replaced a highlighter nib with a blade, told another pupil: "Listen to me or else I'll stab you."

Archbishop Ilsley Catholic School, in Birmingham, carries out random checks on students, where they are searched before walking through a knife arch.

The school said it does not have a knife problem, and headteacher Helen Burrows explained the checks were brought in to teach children about the wider world.

"It could happen at any school at any time," she said. "I don't think a child bringing a knife into a school is a localised issue. It's a national issue.

"It's quite simple for me as a headteacher that a child bringing a knife into school is not acceptable but we would never wash our hands of a child completely."

She added: "We would always look at what we could do to support that child moving on in the future."

Steven George, from the National Association of Headteachers, said referring a child to the police isn't always the best option, adding: "What you're trying to do is find a solution for that child.

"Their family, circumstances, the neighbourhood they live in, the people they hang around with are all going to be factors and those aren't solved with a phone call to the police.

"We know that schools are being asked to do more than ever before on a wide range of issues that extend beyond the school gates. If the figures continue to grow then that is a problem that schools definitely cannot tackle alone."

A Scottish Government spokesman said: "Scotland has adopted a public health approach to violent crime, tackling the underlying causes of violence and not just the symptoms.

Rob Hance, Children and Young Persons Officer for Harlow, speaking to children at a Changing Lives charity workshop (PA)

"Our approach to knife crime, focusing on prevention, is recognised across the UK and internationally as making a real difference in keeping people safer."

A Welsh Government spokesman said: "There is a duty on local authorities and schools to ensure that schools are a safe environment for all.

"If at any point the environment within a school becomes unsafe, the school should ensure that the relevant authorities are informed so that appropriate support can be made available."
