Boy 15 stabbed multiple times
during knife attack in east London

A 15-year-old boy has been taken to hospital after being stabbed in the latest in a spate of violent attacks

Officers were called to Ripley Road in Canning Town at around 8pm on Saturday to reports of a stabbing, the Metropolitan Police said.

Emergency services attended the scene and the teenager was taken to hospital with stab wounds.

The force said that he remains in hospital but his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. No arrests have been made.

Meanwhile, the Met tweeted that a section 60 order - which gives the police special search powers - has been authorised in parts of London after "two groups of males were seen with knives chasing each other in the Barnsbury/Cannonbury area".

In another incident, Scotland Yard said a man, who is believed to be aged 28, remains in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in Barking Road, Canning Town, on Friday.

It comes after another teenager, who was stabbed to death in Brighton Road in Purley, south London, at 9.10pm on Thursday was named as Kye Manning.

Mr Manning, 19, died at the scene at 9.50pm, Scotland Yard said.

A post-mortem examination has taken place and the cause of death was identified as a single stab wound to the heart.

Mason Bird, 18, of Purley, has been charged with GBH, violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon, police said.

Purley is NOT a run down inner city area. It does NOT contain any slums. Croydon council has built a number of EXTREMELY PLEASANT modern flats in the area. The council have housed black people in Purley PROVING that the environment has absolutely NOTHING to do with the behaviour of these young savages

Two men aged 18 and 20 remain in hospital, while a 17-year-old boy remains in custody. All three have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Sex predator who killed barmaid
pleads guilty to second murder

A "wicked" predator who murdered a barmaid in Finsbury Park has pleaded guilty to the sexually-motivated killing of a retired civil servant

Kasim Lewis, 32, was jailed for life with a minimum term of 29 years last May for the murder of 22-year-old Iuliana Tudos on Christmas Eve 2017.

Following his conviction, his DNA was linked to the death of 55-year-old Catherine Burke.

Ms Burke, a retired civil servant, was found bound, gagged and stabbed at her home in Haringey, north London, only a month before Ms Tudos was attacked.

Murder victim: Iuliana Tudos, 22, was found dead in Finsbury Park

At a hearing at the Old Bailey on Monday, Lewis pleaded guilty to the Ms Burke's murder November 16 2017.

The mother of one was found dead by police after neighbours raised the alarm.

DNA was found linking Lewis to the scene and Ms Burke's mobile phone was tracked in the direction of his address.

Police also uncovered explicit pornography on the defendant's mobile phone following his arrest.

Catherine Burke was killed a month before Ms Tudos (Met Police )

Ms Burke, who was said to have lived alone after her son moved out to go to university, was killed a month before Ms Tudos was set upon by Lewis as she walked through Finsbury Park.

Moldovan-born Ms Tudos, who worked at The World's End pub in Camden, had spent Christmas Eve socialising after work with friends when she was attacked.

She was last seen on CCTV walking into Finsbury Park at just past 8.30pm, and "never made it out of the park", Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC told the Old Bailey trial.

Court appearance: Kasim Lewis (PA)

During the trial, the court was told how Lewis bludgeoned Ms Tudos with a bottle.

She may have been unconscious or already dead when Lewis set about mutilating her body with the broken glass.

Mr Aylett told the court that an incised injury to on Ms Tudos' chest looked like "either the logo for the character Batman or else the letter 'M'."

Lewis also bound Ms Tudos' hands with cable ties while inflicting injuries during the 90-minute ordeal.

Worried friends launched an extensive search when when Ms Tudos failed to turn up for Christmas festivities the following day.

Her body was found hidden under a jacket and pieces of wood in a burnt-out shed in the park two days later.

Lewis, who moved as a refugee to the UK from Monserrat in 1995, was arrested in the early hours of New Year's Day at a home in Dalston, where he lived with his on-off boyfriend.

The court heard how, when he was arrested for murder, he replied: "I did it".

Judge Richard Marks QC, the Common Serjeant of London, said the murder had caused "wide devastation" for Ms Tudos' friends and family.

The judge said the murder was both "barbaric" and sexually driven, saying: "This was a killing that involved the most appalling brutality."

Judge Marks will sentence Lewis for the second murder on Thursday at the Old Bailey

Serial rapist stalking women
on London night buses

A serial sex attacker is stalking young female bar and restaurant workers making their way home on night buses, police revealed today

Scotland Yard fear he will strike again following two rapes, one attempted rape and a robbery in 11 days in streets in Newham and Waltham Forest.

Two women were raped by a man who asked them “where are you going?” after they got off night buses from central London in the early hours.

Two other women narrowly escaped when their screams were heard.

Detective Superintendent Andrew Packer said the public should not be afraid to provide names of possible suspects because forensic evidence would clear anyone who is innocent.

He added: “This is what I would call a manhunt and I am genuinely concerned. He is a dangerous individual and there could be many other victims. I don’t know if the victims will ever get over something like this.”

A 35-year-old woman suffered an “absolutely horrific” rape in Chadwin Road, Plaistow, on Monday July 1 at 2.40am.

The attacker also stole her mobile phone and other property.

Then, on Saturday July 6, a woman was followed by a man and robbed in St Mary’s Road near Leyton Tube station at 3.25am. The attacker ran off when her screams alerted a passer-by.

A short time later, at 4.20am, a 31-year-old woman was approached and punched in the face by a man who then raped her in Amethyst Road, Waltham Forest. He also stole her phone.

In the fourth attack, on July 11, another woman aged 31 was followed by a man who threatened her and attempted to rape her at about 3.30am in Central Park Road, East Ham.

He stole her phone after her shouts were heard.

Mr Packer said: “It would appear the male is targeting lone females using the public transport network and hubs. The women are similar in that they are coming home from work in central London bars and restaurants.

“He starts with a bit of conversation, asking ‘where are you going?’ The language then turns explicit.

“I would like to speak to any woman who has been approached by a similar man who made her feel awkward.

“People should have a good look at the man in our images. He’s not unkempt, he’s got nice clothes on. His hair has recently been shaved. Are you his barber? Or do you work in a late-night shop and has he come in to top up a mobile? Is there someone you know who is out at night but they are not normally? All I need is a name. If you think you know who this man is, please don’t delay.”

The victims are being supported by specially trained officers. Extra patrols have been carried out in the area. The Met advised women walking alone at night to be aware of their surroundings and to keep family and friends informed of where they might be going.

Police investigate 'drive-by'
shooting of boy, 15, in Coventry

The boy was hit while standing outside a branch of McDonald's at around 11.10pm last night

Police said a motorbike carrying "a number of people" drove past and a weapon was fired.

The boy was hit and a second person, a man aged around 20, suffered minor injuries and was released from hospital.

The victim was taken to hospital for surgery. His injuries are described as potentially life-changing, but not life-threatening.

Police said they are treating the shooting as an attempted murder and have launched a major investigation.

Police want to hear from anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area.

Det Insp Harjit Ubhi, from Force CID, said: “This was an appalling and reckless attack in a part of the city centre which was busy with people enjoying nights out.

“We are already going through CCTV and identifying witnesses, and are determined to bring the people responsible to justice as swiftly as possible.”

Thousands of blades confiscated at family courts

Thousands of knives and sharp objects are being confiscated annually at London family courts, with campaigners saying it showed how "desensitised" some people were to carrying weapons

Eighty-six knives with blades longer than 3in (8cm) were seized in 2018-19, a big rise from just 18 a year earlier, Ministry of Justice data revealed.

Almost 4,000 shorter blades were found in 2018-19, the figures showed.

HM Courts and Tribunals Service said it treated security "extremely seriously".

Family courts mainly deal with private family disputes that involve parents and concern their children, and public work when local authorities take action to remove children from their parents' care.

'Defies logic'

The figures, revealed following a Freedom of Information Act request from the BBC, covered 15 of the courts based in the capital.

Mandatory bag searches, metal detectors and surveillance cameras are used to find blades and anything considered an offensive weapon is reported to police.

Knives confiscated at family courts in London

Blades longer than 3in (8cm)

The number of longer-bladed weapons confiscated had fallen before increasing dramatically last year.

In the financial year 2015-16, 41 were taken by court staff but that dropped to 11 in 2016-17 and 18 the following year, before soaring back up to 86 in 2018-19.

The number of knives with shorter blades increased steadily from 1,814 to 3,893 over the same four-year period.

The figures for shorter blades include items of cutlery, razors, pen knives, key rings and scissors which have been confiscated, as well as weapons.

Patrick Green, chief executive officer of anti-knife charity The Ben Kinsella Trust, said the increase was likely to be partly down to improved security, but also showed how carrying a knife had become "normalised behaviour" for some people, even in places where they knew they would be searched.

"It defies logic to the majority of us but it shows their thinking and association with carrying knives," he said.

The president of the Family Division of the High Court has expressed a similar view.

During a lecture in May, Sir Andrew McFarlane said the judiciary "do not believe that most, indeed any, of these knives were necessarily being brought in for use in the court building".

"It simply seems to be a facet of everyday life in 2019 for some members of the population."

The courts service said staff confiscated items to "keep our sites free of any article that could be used as a weapon".

"HMCTS has a robust security and safety system to protect all court users and the Judiciary," they said.

Two men injured in drive-by shooting

Two men have been injured in a drive-by shooting outside a pub

Police believe two motorbikes approached a Vauxhall Astra estate in Argyle Street, Birkenhead at about 00:11 BST when the shots were fired.

The pillion passenger on one of the bikes fired a gun into the car before riding off, Merseyside Police said.

The driver and the front-seat passenger in the car both sustained gunshot injuries, which are not thought to be life threatening.

A third person, who was in the rear of the car, was uninjured.

Each motorbike had two men on board but the gunshots came from one pillion passenger, officers said

'Incomprehensible and sickening'

The victims, both from Birkenhead, were treated by ambulance crews in nearby Rodney Street after the car driver left the scene of the shooting, close to a Wetherspoons pub.

The 26-year-old driver was shot in the shoulder, while a 25-year-old passenger sustained injuries to his arm.

Crime scene investigators are carrying out forensic examinations of the locations involved and the car.

Det Insp Paul Speight said: "There were a large number of people in Wetherspoons and the Argyle Street area and the actions of the offenders are utterly incomprehensible and sickening.

"We need to find the people on that motorbike as a matter of urgency.

"We have already spoken to a number of witnesses who were at the pub and in Market Street at the time of the attack.

"The motorbikes were last seen heading along Argyle Street towards Hamilton Square. If you think you saw these bikes in the lead up to the incident, or following the incident please let us know."

Earlier, a 26-year-old man was arrested after a gun was fired in Dingle, Liverpool.

Three people on two scrambler bikes were involved in the incident at the junction of Erin Close and Laxey Street at about 20:14, police said.

The arrested man, from Anfield, was on a bike which crashed into a car and is in hospital with a serious leg fracture.

Detectives said occupants of a white car removed the motorbike after the crash but it was found later in an alleyway off Park Road.

Man 20 knifed to death in double
stabbing in South Hampstead

Armed police arrest two suspects at gunpoint after double-stabbing left one man dead and another injured in south Hampstead - sparking 81st murder probe in London this year

20-year-old man dies after being stabbed in north-west London overnight

Victim and 22-year-old man were found with knife wounds in South Hampstead

They were taken to hospital at 11.45pm last night but 20-year-old died of wounds
Armed police have arrested two men at gunpoint after a double-stabbing left one man dead and another injured last night - sparking the 81st murder probe in London of 2019.

Police were sent to a block of flats in South Hampstead, north west London just before midnight where a 20-year-old man and a 22-year-old man were found with stab injuries.

Both were taken to hospital by paramedics, but the 20-year-old was pronounced dead just after 12.35am this morning. The 22-year-old man was not critically injured. He remains in hospital in a serious, but stable condition.

The Metropolitan Police this afternoon said that two men, aged 20 and 23, are in custody in a north London police station after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

They were pulled over in a blue, Audi A3 by armed police near West Kilburn, north west London in the early hours of the morning.

The victim and a 22-year-old man were both stabbed and taken to hospital but the younger man could not be saved. Pictured are forensic teams at the scene this morning

Another incident, close to where they were pulled over is now being linked to the murder investigation.

Police were called by members of the public at 12.01am this morning to Lancefield Street, West Kilburn where a 20-year-old man was found with a stab wound to the leg.

Officers and London Ambulance Service attended. The injured male was taken to hospital by LAS where his condition has since been confirmed as non-life threatening.

Police are now trying to establish the link between the two incidents.

Police, pictured at the scene this morning, are appealing for anyone with information to come forward. The 22-year-old man is not thought to have life-threatening injuries

Croydon stabbing: Man 23 fighting
for life after being repeatedly knifed

A young man is fighting for his life after he was repeatedly stabbed on a street in south London.

The 23-year-old remains in hospital in a critical condition after the attack in Imperial Way, Croydon, on Sunday night.

Officers believe he had been at a nearby social event when people spilled out onto the street and he was attacked.

Scotland Yard is now appealing for witnesses to help find the culprit.

Assistant Detective Chief Inspector Lewis Collins said: “A young man had been left in a critical condition after being stabbed repeatedly.

"We believe there were a number of people present who had been to a nearby social event, which then spilled out onto the street.

"We would like to hear from anyone who attended this event and saw what may have led up to the stabbing.

"We also want to hear from anyone who witnessed the attack or saw anyone running from the scene.

"Anyone with information should not hesitate, pick up the phone and call police, or you can call Crimestoppers where you do not have to give your name.

"A young man has been left with life threatening injuries and I am appealing to our community to help police find those who were responsible.”

Edmonton stabbing: man stabbed
for refusing to give up his bike

Six people have been arrested after a man in his 20s was stabbed for refusing to give up his bike in north London, police have said

Officers were called to Hertford Road, Edmonton, just after 1.30pm on Sunday.

A man in his 20s was taken to hospital, after he reported being approached by a group of men who demanded he hand over his bike, Scotland Yard said.

When he refused, he was stabbed, according to police.

He was taken to hospital by ambulance where his injuries have been assessed as non-life threatening.

Six males have since been arrested by officers on suspicion of assault and remain in police custody.

Panicked commuters fled in terror after a fight broke out at a busy London station during rush hour

Fire alarms at Bank and Monument Tube stations were set off as the incident unfolded at about 9am on Friday

Police were called to the linked stations which were evacuated and briefly closed.

The fight is believed to have broken near the Central line at Monument but District, Circle, Northern and Central line services all stopped serving the stations.

Police have since said two men have been arrested on suspicion of affray.

One person said on Twitter how it was "like something out a horror film".

She said: "People falling on the floor, luggage being abandoned, people screaming, staff members and passengers running for their lives."

Another person described how there were "surges of scared looking people" shouting "RUN! Get out! Get out!"

Journalist Vicky Chandler said someone had shouted "bomb" amid the panic.

She said: "Got off phone to my sobbing best friend who was at Bank station, someone shouted bomb. Thousands stampeding out, people falling and others running over them.

"She had to leave her suitcase behind & in stampede lost the glasses she was wearing to, erm, see. Shouting bomb is NOT OK."

One person said: “I've never seen a stampede like it on the underground. What a horrific way to start the day.”

Another added: “What on earth happened at Bank station? I got off and Bank station and was told to run to the exit to monument, everyone was running and pushing, it was horrible.”

"That was the scariest thing I've been involved in," said another.

A spokesman for British Transport Police said: “BTP officers attended Monument Underground station at 8.54am today after a fire alarm was triggered.

"Enquiries revealed there had been a fight. During the fight the alarm was pressed.

"The station was evacuated as a precaution but has since reopened.

"Due to its close proximity, the fire alarm at Bank station was also triggered and the station was evacuated but has also since reopened.

"Two men have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They remain in police custody."

"No weapons are reported to have been seen during the fight."

Rapper guilty of supplying heroin
through 'county lines' drug routes

Rapper Asco has been found guilty of supplying heroin through "county lines" drug routes across the Home Counties

Asfa Allen, 32, was at the head of at least four distribution lines taking drugs out of London, Scotland Yard said.

He is best known as being part of east London rap group Mashtown who featured on freestyle sessions hosted by former Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, according to a profile on his agent's website.

The British artist was arrested when police raided 15 properties in the areas where he operated, seizing £25,000 in cash, around half a kilogram of heroin, expensive designer footwear and vehicles.

Asco was found guilty of conspiracy to supply Class A drugs on Tuesday, along with Akwasi Kwateng, 24, from Hackney, east London, following a trial at Blackfriars Crown Court.

Four other men - Kai Lye, 28, Donovan Corbett, 22, who are both from Hackney, Bradley Fapolnle, 33, from Barking, and Denzel Nimoh, 20, from Coventry - earlier pleaded guilty to the same charge.

Detective Inspector Dave Williams, said: "Drug dealing is inextricably linked to the violence we have seen across the capital.

"This result is a culmination of months of hard work and dedication focused on tackling these prolific drug dealers who would target vulnerable people and managed multiple drug lines for the sole purpose of financial gain.

"Allen, who also went by the stage name 'Asco', had landed a successful and lucrative recording contract with a major label where he could have left his life of crime and violence behind, however he could not release his grip on running a county lines route and will now be spending time behind bars instead of working on his music.

"I hope today's conviction reassures communities that we do take action and highlights our ongoing commitment to bearing down on county lines criminality."

The gang will be sentenced in September.

Teen who knifed boy to death
in senseless attack jailed for life

A teenager who stabbed to death an innocent 15-year-old schoolboy in a “senseless” gang attack outside a chicken shop has been jailed for life

Nyron Jean-Baptiste, 18, knifed Jai Hughes through the heart with a machete, shouting out “I got one” as he ran away after the attack.

The Old Bailey heard that while Jean-Baptiste was “embedded in knife gang culture”, there was no evidence to suggest Jai - a budding cartoonist and animator - was involved in gangs at all.

Prosecutor Crispin Aylett QC said Jai had fallen victim to a feud between rival southeast London factions M20 and B-Side, adding: “Those who are engaged in such feuds tend to stab first and find out the facts later."

Sentencing the teenage killer, who turned 18 last week and can be named today for the first time, Judge Anuja Dhir QC said the stabbing was “brazen, quick and ruthless”.

“You went straight up to Jai Hughes, a young man you did not know who had no gang affiliation and just happened to be standing in a street where a rival gang operated”, she said.

“In reality Jai Hughes didn’t stand a chance of surviving this senseless and brutal attack.”

She said Jean-Baptiste, a member of the M20 gang, had intended to kill Jai rather than just injure him and must serve a minimum of 19 years in custody.

Jai’s mother Cindy Hughes said she had been left “empty and sad inside” following the death of her eldest son, who would have turned 16 on Sunday.

“He was too young, it wasn’t his time to go”, she said. “I don’t believe I can ever fully accept it.”

She said Jai had wanted to work at his uncle’s construction firm and dreamed of becoming a successful cartoonist, adding: “The sense of loss is unbearable.”

Jai was standing with a friend outside the Morley’s chicken shop in Bellingham when he was murdered.

Jean-Baptiste was one of three hooded and masked men armed with large knives who arrived together in a car in the afternoon of November 1 last year, parking up near to the chicken shop.

The two other men chased after Jai’s friend, while Jean-Baptiste ran up to Jai who was stationary and stabbed him once in the chest.

The injured boy staggered into the chicken shop and was given emergency first aid, but he died in hospital less than three hours later.

Jean-Baptiste was captured in Gravesend, Kent, on December 10 when he had a large hunting knife stuffed into the waistband of his trousers. He was also caught with drill rap lyrics boasting about his gang life.

Graham Trembath QC, representing Jean-Baptiste, said the teen had been neglected as a child: “He was literally doomed in so many way from when he was born.”

Jean-Baptiste, from Penge, denied but was convicted at trial of murder. He admitted possession of a knife when he was arrested.
