Quite interesting ; I agree with that critic :

Whilst this was not a book which kept one awake at night because it was impossible to put down, it was, all in all, an interesting read and one which I recommend to those who think the homeless are best avoided or forgotten!!

Piling - I see you read my compatriot, Johan Theorin is Swedish. I like his books too, he´s quite big here in Sweden. (A bit scary though, his novels!)

I very much enjoy - and highly recommend - Philip Kerr´s novels about the detective Bernie Gunther. Excellent thrillers set in 1930/40-ties.

I read many Swedish writers, because Swedish crime authors (and from Scandinavia in general) are very popular and appreciated by French readers. Currently, I read Leif G. W. Persson and I ADORE Evert Backström

But I like also Scottish and English writers.

Here's a nice sports autobiography even for those who doesn't really like sport at all: "Blessed" by George Best, "the fifth Beatle".

A bit of sad reading also, all that wasted talent! But Best is good for some fantastic quotes, here's my favourite:


"I spent a lot of money on booze, ladies and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

Or

"In 1969 I gave up women and alcohol and it was the worst 20 minutes of my life."

I read and reread all the classics many times

I have read all the Sociology, Psychology, Educational books and all the business, marketing and Linux books I ever want to read

Never had time for TV

So now I read suspense thrillers (I bore easily) when I am not writing poems, studying, involved in some business venture or other

I use 2 computers at a time, thinking to start using 3 at a time soon

For a change from my usual reading I am going to buy:

'The Penguin Lessons'
By Tom Michell

It is the story of how, on one of Tom's journeys, he found an oil-drenched penguin on the beach in Punta del Este in Uruguay, and smuggled it back to his school.

Tom sees just one penguin alive amid a scene of devastation, hundreds of birds lying dead in the sand “from the high water mark to the sea and stretching far away along the shore to the north”. He decides he has to save this one bird, and manages to transport it back to the flat where he’s staying. “I couldn’t dream up a more unsuitable place for cleaning a tar-sodden penguin,” he writes, before carefully immobilising it and setting to work with various products, “ butter and margarine, olive oil and cooking oil, soap, shampoo and detergent”.

Once clean, the penguin won’t stop following him when he tries to return it to the sea, and he resolves, with the insouciance of a man in his 20s, to take it with him over the border and back to his Argentinian school.

There, the penguin, now named Juan Salvador - after the Spanish version of Jonathan Livingston Seagull - wins the heart of everyone it meets, watching rugby matches from the sideline, swimming in the school pool, doted on by pupils and teachers alike.

No doubt a gentle relaxing book

I've just finished A Far Cry from Kensington by Muriel Spark. I didn't read this author before, and it is a wonderful novel.

My five stars of this summer with To Kill A Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.
