KRG Launches New
Government News Service
The Kurdistan Government has unveiled a new initiative designed to streamline official communications and provide faster access to government information for journalists, researchers, and media outlets across the Region
The Department of Media and Information (DMI) said the service, known as “Khezmati Hawal” — meaning The News Service — marks the first collaboration of its kind between the Kurdistan Region and Meta, with official content to be distributed directly to registered WhatsApp users.
According to the DMI, the platform will offer direct and timely updates on government activities, including detailed project information, reports with statistical data, weekly announcements from the Council of Ministers, and high-quality video and photo materials that can be used for publication.
Jotiar Adil, the head of the department, said: “We believe that seamless and accurate access to information is the cornerstone of building trust and strengthening the relationship between the government and the media and academic landscapes.
‘Khezmati Hawal’ is not just a technological tool; it is a commitment from our government to apply the highest standards of transparency and effective communication. Our partnership with Meta in this first-of-its-kind project underscores our endeavour to adopt the latest technologies to serve our citizens and journalists in the Kurdistan Region.”
DMI officials said the service is open for registration to media institutions, journalists and academic figures who require direct access to official updates. It is intended to support faster fact-checking, improve communication efficiency, and encourage greater transparency in the public sphere.
The initiative comes as the KRG continues to expand digital services and modernization efforts across government sectors. The region has increasingly relied on online tools and social media platforms to engage with the public, especially since the COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital communication needs.
The Department of Media and Information said journalists and researchers can enroll through the registration link provided in its announcement and may also contact the “Khezmati Hawal” team at news.service@dmi.gov.krd for further assistance.
