Erdogan prepares to annex Afrin

The Turkish state is striving tirelessly to complete the genocide and erase the Kurds from history. He doesn't do it secretly; he does it in front of the entire world. Of course, there are reasons for him to be so careless

The Turkish state was founded on the annihilation of peoples and exposing them to genocide. Hence it has a powerful historical background in this regard. Nobody was ever brought to account for those genocides. Furthermore, the United States, NATO, and European countries have all supported the genocide against the Kurds since the foundation of the republic.

Europe and the United States are not unaware of the fact that the Kurds are persecuted and that even their language is forbidden. Despite this, they formed an alliance with Turkey, allowing it to build a powerful army. Since the establishment of the republic, this army has not fought any foreign power or state.

The Turkish army is NATO's second-largest army. And for the past four decades, this army has been relentlessly attacking the Kurds. Turkish planes are pounding the entire Kurdistan territory, from Shengal to Maxmur, from Afrin to Asos, from Dersim and Ağrı to Mardin, day and night, summer and winter, without meeting any obstacles or borders.

Where does Turkish fascism acquire its unrivalled power and aggression? Is it a prosperous country? Does it build these jets and military equipment itself? Obviously, no. It obtains all of this assistance from the United States and NATO, as well as the European countries and reactionary Middle Eastern allies.

Furthermore, the Kurds, who are the victims of genocide, as well as those who fight and lead the struggle on their behalf, have been labelled terrorists by these forces. The hands of the genociders are free, but those who fight and oppose the genocide are wanted their hands tied and hurled out of legitimacy.

Those who establish politics based on interests and despotism, by definition, lack human emotions and shame. While Turkey organizes and commits all manner of wickedness, these shameless circles express their deepest fears and concerns by presenting them to the press and the public in stylish costumes!

There is such rottenness and shamelessness that Erdogan shows at the UN General Assembly the Syria map in his palm, indicating the territories they will invade! The areas depicted on this map are where Kurds are settled. The areas from Afrin to the Tigris River, i.e. Derik, would be purged of Kurds, and the families of Erdogan's gangs, Turkmens, and those imported from Turkey would take their place. They will complete the genocide in these territories by displacing the Kurds from their habitats, resulting in a clear demographic shift.

This genocide and occupation are expressed at the so-called people's assembly. Worst of all, and most shamefully, the UN had no reaction or objection to the idea.

Even worse, after Turkey struck a deal with Trump to carry out this plan and occupied Serêkaniyê and Girê Spi, the UN secretary-general rushed to Ankara, while the smoke from the demolitions was still rising and the blood of the murdered people had not yet dried, and shook the hand of a bloody dictator like Erdogan.

Everyone knows that there is ethnic cleansing in Afrin and that hundreds of thousands of Kurds have been uprooted. Furthermore, the UN Human Rights Watch documented and reported on Turkey's war crimes in the occupied territory. However, in practice, nothing has been done against it. And Erdogan is currently carrying out the plan he presented at the UN General Assembly without any hitches.

The Turkish government is currently constructing around sixty settlements in Afrin, primarily in the regions close to Turkey. It also settles Arabs, Turkmen, and their gangs in these areas. Erdogan obtains funding for these projects from nations such as Qatar or Europe. Europe provides billions of euros to Erdogan for refugee assistance. Erdogan is free to spend the money however he sees fit.

On whose land are Erdogan's villages and towns being built? Are these lands unclaimed? What happened to the proprietors of these properties and lands? Who benefits from whose land? Nobody is asking these questions.

Who gives Erdogan the authority to save so much in another country, Syria? The fascist Erdogan is invading Syrian territory and violating international law. Not content with this, he seizes Kurdish settlements and lands and expels the residents. He brings in others and settles them on Kurds’ lands. The United Nations, Europe, and Russia are all onlookers.

It is as if the Kurds are destined to genocide and attacks and this is international law. Turkey has built a wall all along the Syrian border and is constructing a wall along the Iranian border now, while the Iraqi border is abundant with military posts. In front of the world's eyes, walls are being constructed in between the Kurds.

It was once customary in Turkey, from the right to the left, to refer to the Berlin Wall as the "Wall of Shame". Israel's barriers against Arabs have also been heavily criticized. However, no one in Turkey refers to these walls as "walls of shame."

From the government to the bewildered opposition, everyone is either silent or supportive in the face of these walls. They are either accomplices or mute in the face of Kurdish genocide and demographic change.

The Turkish state has declared war on Kurdistan from Shengal to Maxmur. The Bahceli-Erdogan coalition wishes to complete what ISIS was unable to do against the Yazidis.

In this regard, the Kurdish people should virtually raise hell with a genuine spirit of mobilization and rage. Only organized resistance and force can put an end to the oppressors. These brutal murderers have already been exposed. The issue is now one of resistance and organizing. Kurdistan's people have this power and experience.

Turkish walls disconnect Kurds

Using the refugee influx as a smokescreen, Turkey wants to separate the Rojhilat (Eastern Kurdistan) and Bakur (Northern Kurdistan) Kurds living on both sides of the border

At the beginning of 2021, Turkey also started to build a wall on its Iranian border with Van and Hakkari cities. TOKİ (Housing Development Administration of Turkey) completed 45 kilometres of a 64 kilometres long wall in Van city and 16 kilometres of a 28 kilometres long wall in Hakkari city.

Government-appointed mayor of Van Mehmet Emin Bilmez said that the construction was interrupted due to the winter conditions yet would resume in the spring. “At the moment, only the wall has been built. Barbed wires will be put over that wall. A 200-kilometre-long ditch has been dug along the border. Our reinforcing units are working to put barbed wires and to construct 217 watch towers and 2 outposts,” Bilmez said.

Following the trustee mayor’s statements, three Afghan refugees lost their lives by falling into the ditches along the border. 5 more Afghan refugees who crossed the border were returned to the border by Turkish soldiers in two months. The refugees who were not allowed to pass by Iranian soldiers froze to death at the border.

WALL FUNDED BY EU

There is a well-rounded agreement over the refugee crossings between Turkey and the EU. The EU pays a large amount of money to Turkey to keep refugees away from crossing borders. Turkey also receives funds from the EU to build walls on the border. Using the refugee influx as a smokescreen, Turkey is thus breaking off the connection between the Kurds in Northern and Eastern Kurdistan.

REFUGEE POLICY NOT LEGAL

Serhat Association for Migration Research (Göç-Der) co-chair Kurt remarked on the issue. “Since Van is bordered by Iran, there has been an intensive refugee influx from Afghanistan. We are witnessing a great human tragedy experienced by refugees who want to cross into Turkey under the winter conditions. We cannot receive instant information from the border.

There is currently a great tragedy over there. Most recently, a mother died after being sent back to the border by Turkish soldiers. There is no legal status for refugees coming to Turkey. When they go to cities like Istanbul and Ankara via Van, they are subjected to racist attacks.

The government's refugee policy is not legal, and the rights of refugees are violated. The fact that refugee women are victims of rape and harassment at the borders reveals that Turkey has not done anything to deal with the refugee issue.

TWO SIDES OF THE BORDER ARE DISCONNECTED

Kurt noted that Turkey has made no regulations regarding the refugees and is now building a border wall in order to prevent refugee crossings. “Turkey is building these walls with the funds it receives from EU countries. The border wall is being built to separate people who are relatives of each other.

Kurds have never recognized artificial borders placed across their lands by invasion forces and have continued travelling and trading across the border. Trading was their basic means of living, but now walls are ending it and our people living on the border are suffering from starvation. It is so clear that the walls are being built to cut off the contact between our people living there, rather than to prevent the refugee influx with the funds provided by the EU.”

Sadly neither the HDP nor the PKK has enough support to organise the mass protests needed to stop the division of Kurdistan - Kurds desperately need new leadership to unite them

KCK Executive Council

According to its own information, the Executive Council of the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) held its annual meeting with a sufficient number of members

At the meeting, practice in all fields of work was evaluated and a plan for the current year was prepared. The main topics were the situation of Abdullah Öcalan, the resistance against the cross-border fascism of the AKP/MHP government and the building of grassroots democratic structures within the model of "democratic confederalism".

"These topics were evaluated with all aspects and the necessary planning for them was discussed. The whole planning has the aim of developing the revolutionary people's war on the basis of self-defence against fascism in order to liberate Kurdistan and democratise Turkey and the Middle East," the KCK said in a statement released on Friday.

The KCK stated in its analysis that the Erdogan government is increasingly losing support at home and abroad and will intensify its aggression for this very reason. For this year, further massive attacks are therefore expected on the Medya Defense Zones and all places where there is free and democratic life, according to KCK, which further said the following, "2022 will be one of the most critical years in the history of our struggle.

In this period, when the third world war continues and the Turkish state aiming at genocide increases its attacks, the struggle based on self-defence must be continued with the strategy of revolutionary people's war in order to protect the gains and repel the attacks. In this context, the importance of an organised stance of both our military forces and our people has been discussed so that this difficult struggle can be successful. It has been emphasised that strength cannot be defined only in terms of weapons, military power and technical superiority. The real strength is the project of a free and democratic life based on a correct ideological policy. The Kurdish liberation movement has such a project and will therefore win."

At the meeting, it was highlighted that capitalist modernity is a great danger that must be fought against by all humanity and the Kurdish people. According to KCK, this struggle is a task that people have to face, and the prerequisite for this is an organised society.

“One of the most important tasks of the coming period is the establishment of grassroots democratic structures such as communes and councils within the confederal system. For this, the nation-state mindset must be replaced by the model of a democratic nation with the inclusion of all social groups presented by Abdullah Öcalan,” said the Executive Council of the KCK and pointed out the importance of cooperation with all democratic forces in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran for a solution of the Kurdish question.

“The struggle against AKP/MHP fascism goes beyond the liberation of Northern Kurdistan and the democratisation of Turkey. This struggle concerns the liberation of all four parts of Kurdistan, the protection of the achievements and the democratisation of the whole Middle East. We call on all democratic forces, women and youth to participate in and strengthen this struggle,” the statement by KCK Executive Council said.

Murat Karayilan:

The next three months are crucial for the guerrilla struggle in Kurdistan

Murat Karayilan, a member of the PKK Executive Committee, told ANF in this interview that the next three months are crucial for the guerrilla struggle in Kurdistan. “It is not for nothing that we speak of a struggle for existence. That's the reality. Therefore, everyone in this process should play their part.

This period is a very important time in the history of our struggle and we want to win in this process," said Karayilan, adding: "If I were not a Kurd, if I were an impartial person, I would support those who struggle to defend themselves with their own resources. People should have a conscience, a certain honor.”

However, Karayilan also emphasizes that the PKK as an ideological movement cannot be crushed.

A week ago, the HPG published a war balance sheet for the past five months. The balance sheet made it clear once again how comprehensive the war was. How do you evaluate these five months?

The last five months have been very important for us. Another week has now passed. For five months and a week, there has been a constant and all-out war in Zap, Metîna and Avaşîn. This is a new situation in the history of Kurdistan and in our history of struggle.

For the first time in more than five months, the Turkish occupation is being resisted in the same place, and the Turkish state is being stopped. This is not an ordinary situation. As I said before, this is a new situation in the history of our people, in our history of struggle.

Despite the Turkish state's support from inside and outside and the use of all modern weapons, including internationally banned weapons, the Turkish state has not achieved the desired result. Everyone should know that this war is something new. Fighting on one side is a huge force, large in numbers, possessing all the technology of the time, and on the other is a force possessing conviction, courage, expertise, knowledge of the terrain, and tactical knowledge.

In other words, in this war we put human will against modern technology and banned weapons.

The new tactical methods we developed surprised the enemy. Presumably he did not expect that such a deep, rich tactic could be carried out in a coordinated manner. An important achievement is being made in this war, and it is being done in a spirit of sacrifice. A great sacrifice is made.

The courage shown today by Kurdish women and men, as well as Arabs, is a great example of the sublimation of the human will. We believe that the new ways and methods we have developed in this war will be an example for all, especially for those forces that do not have the technical means against large armies and modern weapons to fight their countries and themselves with defending guerrilla methods within the perspective of people's revolutionary war.

As you know, there were fortresses in the past. In the past, peoples used castles to defend themselves against large armies. Now there are no more above-ground fortresses, because these can be destroyed with modern weapons.

The Kurdish freedom guerrillas, meanwhile, have built underground fortresses and fight in the terrain with special teams that turn every tree into a position against the enemy. The same applies to the underground. The Turkish state can no longer move freely in the field and occupy terrain with its army as before. If he wants to move from one hill to another hill, covering only a distance of one kilometre, he is afraid, because on the land path he encounters many obstacles. For this reason, he first bombards the place he wants to go with planes and missiles.

Then the cobras [helicopter] come and shoot. In the dust created by the bombing, troops are dropped from Sikorsky helicopters. This is the Turkish state's current method of occupation. He cannot invade and advance as before. He comes out of the air. The Turkish army is fighting us from the air and with forbidden weapons. We fight them with the will, the courage and the commitment of the people.

Where would the Turkish army be now if they hadn't been stopped in the Zap?

The political consequences for our entire people are also important. If the Turkish army hadn't been held up for five months in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna, who knows where they would have gone and how far they would have come by now. She would have extended her dominion over the people of the region even further. However, she is stuck here. For this reason, the resistance is of great importance for the Kurdish nation and of great importance for the future of the people in the region, especially the Arab people.

The Turkish state is building roads in South Kurdistan and wants to consolidate its position in the occupied territories. What is its goal?

It is true that the Turkish state builds roads everywhere it goes, spending a lot of money. This shows that it wants to stay there permanently. He's building his system. What is his goal now? He used to fight us within the borders set for Turkey. There have also been cross-border attacks, but he has always withdrawn. So his strategy was inward.

But after the fight against ISIS, the Rojava (Western Kurdistan) Revolution has developed and gained status. The Kurdish people came to the fore in Rojava (Western Kurdistan) and the other parts of Kurdistan and the Middle East.

The Turkish state was afraid of that. During these development processes, a dialogue was also held with Rêber Apo [Abdullah Öcalan] on Imrali. This dialogue culminated in the Dolmabahçe Memorandum in February 2015, which was created before the eyes of the world public. It was signed by HDP MPs and representatives of the Turkish state. An agreement should be reached between the Kurdish and Turkish sides.

The state got scared. Tayyip Erdoğan rejected the agreement and the Turkish state developed a new strategy and concept for itself. They said the state had a survival problem, the Kurds had become a force of its own and already had foreign powers behind them, they wanted to crush Turkey and that this threat had to be eliminated.

Therefore, interventions should not only be made within the borders of Turkey, but also in southern and western Kurdistan [Rojava]. They said it was already a mistake to recognize the status of Southern Kurdistan [Kurdistan Region of Iraq] and Rojava should not have any status either.

This is how they came up with a new concept and in 2015 they declared war on us. They speak openly of a thirty-kilometre zone beyond their borders, which stretches from Afrin in Western Kurdistan to Xakurke and Sidekan in Southern Kurdistan.

Their ultimate goal, however, is to occupy the territory within the borders of Misak-ı Milli [National Pact; a plan drawn up in the Ottoman parliament in the early 1920s, which envisages a Turkish territory including Thrace, northern Syria and northern Iraq]. They want control of three parts of Kurdistan.

Fight for freedom

]Duran Kalkan wrote that conditions to fight for democracy and freedom are better than before

"The international powers are deeply divided"

Kalkan looks to the international powers and states: “It is crystal clear that neither the US, Europe, Israel and the UK have a solution, nor can the bloc of Russia, China and India produce a solution. Turkey and Iran could also support Korea. The USA, on the other hand, would form a bloc with Europe and a new bipolar order, as in the 20th century, would emerge.

It is perfectly clear that such a thing will not happen. These lessons were learned from past wars. You can't go back to the 20th-century status quo. If that were possible, it would have happened by now. We don't have to expect anything like that. This means that the hopelessness of the situation will continue. The global powers are very fragmented and disorganized. The global hegemonic powers of capitalist modernity are indeed in a very weak position.

"The conditions to fight for democracy and freedom are better than before"

Compared to the world of 30-40 years ago, the current situation offers much more favourable conditions and opportunities to advance the idea of freedom and democracy. The conditions for fighting for rights are better, but this path should not be considered easy because it is not without dangers.”

“The revolutionary forces lack global unity”

An analysis of the specific situation is important. Lenin's concept is indeed very, very important in terms of social science. However, we must not slip into objectivism by analyzing the concrete. The concrete analysis of the concrete conditions is also important. We must be able to do that too. So what is the situation and what is not? How can it be turned to success? We have to rack our brains about this. Social science also requires this.

"Never separate from philosophical-ideological criteria"

Contradictions and conflicts must not be confused with one another. It is necessary to look at any problem or event not only from the point of view of political and military science, but always to consider an ideological and philosophical point of view as well. Political and military perspectives without philosophy and ideology are dangerous.

They do not lead to a correct understanding of contradictions and conflicts. On the contrary, they sacrifice everything for political and military relations. A mentality and policy that is reduced to politics alone or to the political-military situation is absolutely wrong. One must not separate oneself from philosophical-ideological criteria.

"The enemy of the enemy did not become a friend, but a traitor"

In the 20th century, socialists have been very strong in this politico-military focus. That was Mao's favourite subject. He kept saying 'The enemy of my enemy is my friend'. In the 1990s, we in Kurdistan also wanted to pursue this policy a little, but the international conspiracy brought us that. The enemy of our enemy did not become a friend, but a traitor. Such is the role played by Greece, Russia and some of these powers in the international conspiracy.

Rêber Apo called this a 'false friendship'. That sums it up. That is, we cannot look at events only from a political and military point of view. The philosophical and ideological point of view must never be lost; it is even clear that the philosophical and ideological point of view is the decisive one and that political and military action must be based on this. This is a more correct approach.

A revolution has been going on for a hundred years. If you take the revolutionary movements in France as a basis, then we go back 200 years. Taking the Paris Commune as a basis, 150 years. The October Revolution has taken place, the socialist revolution against capitalism. These were important processes. It has been established that unless socialism succeeds, humanity will perish.

But despite this long process, the revolution could not create an alternative. If there could have been a European revolution, a world revolution, as the October Revolution predicted, socialism could have led mankind to a better life, the dangers could have been eliminated, but that did not happen. That was also the conviction when the revolution took place. The theory was based on that. The practical failure was poured into theory.

“Failure shows us the way”

Kalkan concludes: “All this shows us the way. Our approach to revolution, our revolutionary understanding, must rest on this foundation. It is necessary to understand against this background the new theory, the philosophy, the ideological-political line, the strategy and tactics, the style, and the pace, everything that has emerged on the basis of the paradigm shift.

It is necessary to understand the concrete situation in Kurdistan, the stage of capitalist modernity, the situation of the Third World War, the ways out of the war, the theory of democratic modernity, the revolution, its characteristics, its development in Kurdistan and to be understood even more precisely and better elsewhere.”
