PKK militants kidnap three civilians in eastern Turkey

Members of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group have kidnapped three people in eastern Turkey, Turkish media report.

On Friday, the PKK militants kidnapped a contractor and two workers at a construction site of the Bingol-Mus Railway in Genc town of Bingol Province and set fire to some vehicles in the vicinity, the Turkish daily Hurriyet reported.

According to the report, the militants transferred the three abductees to a forest in the Bingol Province.

The Turkish government had reached a truce agreement with former PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan in March, halting a 28-year armed struggle between the two sides. The truce called on the PKK militants to lay down their arms and retreat to northern Iraq.

In May, the PKK announced that it was withdrawing from Turkey to settle in bases in northern Iraq, as part of the peace deal.

Ocalan, who had been captured by Turkish security forces in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, in 1999, is serving a life sentence at Imrali Island prison on charges of leading the PKK in its armed campaign against Ankara.

The PKK appointed new leaders in July. According to local media, Cemil Bayik, a founder and close ally of imprisoned Ocalan and Bese Hozat, who led the PKK women’s wing, were named as the group’s new leaders.

The new PKK leadership later threatened to call off the historic truce between the group and the Turkish government if Ankara does not change its approaches toward the militant group.

The PKK's new commander recently said the situation is changing and the PKK militants will not lay down their arms.

Murat Karayilan, the new leader of the group’s military wing, criticized the lack of concessions from Ankara, saying the Turkish military was still active in parts of Kurdish-populated southern Turkey.

The group warned Ankara against “provocations and clashes,” which it said could hamper the retreat.

The PKK has been fighting for an autonomous Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey since the 1980s.

While PKK follow Ocalan they are TURKISH because Ocalan has denied them the right to be Kurdish by saying that they should no longer demand an Independent Kurdish area or self rule :ymtongue:

Your logic is really something. Ocalan never claimed to be the leader of Kurdistan, he was/is the leader fo the PKK that have been fighting for Kurdish independance for over 30 years. And no in this day and age to purely demand for outright independance straight away doesn't work anymore. Just look at South Kurdistan and the methods the PUK and KDP had to deploy. What about all the Martryed PKK members who died for Kurdistan? Or in your dumb opinion did they die for Turkey?

They say they are ready to die for Öcalan, not Kurdistan. They are against a Kurdish State.

That's not 'few Apoci' that say they are against a Kurdish state : this is Öcalan and then all the PKK, they have no dissidents (or not alive).

Listen to Ocalan's message on Newroz 2013, when he said "We awake today for creating a new TURKEY, a new MIDDLE-EAST and a new future. He never said a new KURDISTAN.

He said also that a nation-state is an imperialist plot against Middle-East.

And just read in that forum pro-Ocalan's writings (Qonyeyî, for example) when he explained why a Kurdish state id BAD. That is PKK ideological line and it is not new.

Moreover, you have the right to be against nation state, but don't say that's not true : You have to know what kind of ideology you support, so read their own texts an Ocalan's books and speeches.

If you wish a Kurdish state, don't support PKK, that's simple.

How do you explain why PKK at first fought for independence?

They have often changed their line. They were Marxist-Leninist until 1995 also, then they changed.

If PKK were so much against a Kurdish state, why was the final conclusion in the Amed conference this: that all four parts of Kurdistan needs to gain a federal region, and afterwards, the Kurdish people should build up a free and independent Kurdistan?

What people said in a conference is a thing ; what some BDP members say is a thing ; what Karayilan or Kalkan or Bayik say is some things : but until now the final word have always belonged to Öcalan. And Öcalan is against a Kurdish State and for a united Turkey.

And he is against independence of KRG. Just read PKK newspaper from 1990s until now and you will have a good survey of their changing lines.

Since 1999 until now (when he called to the 1st cease-fire), his influence has triumphed. Concerning the 2012-2013 period :

PKK was reluctant to the peace process and to withdraw from Turkish territory. But at the end, they obeyed. And without counterpart, for the moment.

During several years, BDP launched a campaign in favor of 'autonomy'. Now Öcalan said, some month ago that claiming for autonomy would be a sabotage against the peace process. So BDP and PKK will continue to claim it ? Let's see the next elections and their program, but I have doubt. They will probably praise Brotherhood and Union.

Öcalan denied all reference to 'Kurdish ethnicity" in the next Turkish constitution thought it was one of the BDP claims. Let's see what they will do now when ( if) the reform is debated in Turkish parliament.

It is not easy for the PKK to get rid of Öcalan's supremacy (they have reelected him some days ago) because they present him since 15 years as their leader, even in prison. If they refuse suddenly to follow him, the PKK could split between pro and anti, and also they could lost some popular support from 'Kurdish masses ' as they like to say.

Moreover, it seems that BDP leaders are more inclined to follow the new line which would give them more power and allow them to emancipate from Qandil regency. That's a common fact : when a armed movement enters in a political peace process, there could have some clashes or tensions between the military and the political wings.

What will happen to PKK fighters if their fight stops ? They will be useless, and even embarrassing burden, as the survivors of a lost war, but unable to come back in civilian life. They can't go to Western Kurdistan (too dangerous for them). So for the moment, they are trapped and must follow the steps. They have claimed that the peace process is in danger, etc, but Öcalan stated that it is still going on. And for the moment, it is true.

So if you list all the concessions made by the PKK and what gave Turkey (nothing) we can say that Öcalan's influence is still predominant for all the last steps accepted by the PKK were against their own interests.

The Erdogan government is struggling to draft a new constitution for Turkey. The PKK leaders also want this constitution to mention the Kurds but Ocalan opposes this, saying there should be no ethnicity in the constitution. The Erdogan government is also working to weed out the mention of “Turks” in the current constitution and underline “citizenship of the Turkish Republic.”

It was part of Imrali leak. Of course you can say that is Turkish press, etc. But as far I am concern, not BDP leaders denied that these talks were forged, they just told that they will make investigations concerning the sources of the leak.
