Britain today moved a step closer to recognising Syrian rebels as the legitimate government of the country, as William Hague refused to rule out offering arms to help overthrow dictator Bashar al Assad.
The Foreign Secretary held talks with opposition leaders in London today, and hailed them as a 'credible, political alternative'.
He said he hoped the UK would be able 'at an early stage to recognise them as the sole legitimate representative of the Syrian people'.
