According to the latest statistics from the census offices in Erbil, Sulaimani and Duhok, the population of Kurdistan has reached 5.3 million.

However, Kurdish officials in the federal government and Kurdistan’s Ministry of Finance say the population increase has not led to an increase in the Kurdistan Region’s budget, even though the budget -- distributed by Baghdad -- is based on population density.

The statistics from the three provinces of the Kurdistan Region shows that, by the end of August 2012, the population had reached 5,299,304.

Mahmood Osman, director of Sulaimani’s statistics office, told Rudaw,“The population increase in Kurdistan is 3.5 percent annually. The population in towns outside the city center is increasing more sharply.”

what about the other parts of south kurdistan . . .

The total of south Kurdistan (Including the disputed areas) is over 7 million, while in north Kurdistan there's 22.5 million kurds, but i don't know about the rest.

Last time I checked a population source, I learned that there are atleast 7.4 million Kurds in Iraq and atleast 2-3 million Kurds in Syria.

By god's grace, when the Kurdish people get independence in Southern Kurdistan and when Western Kurdistan joins them, then the population of the new Kurdish country will be more than 10-12 million people, and that's not counting the millions more who live in Turkish-occupied Kurdistan.

This is only in the official borders of KRG. Not in the disputed territories and iraq.
as kuwaiti said: kurds in Iraq number more than 7 million

And then we also have east Kurdistan, with a population of over 7 million.

You are wrong, the total Kurdish population is much bigger.

The dictators and barbaric Arabian, Turkish and Persian people are trying to keep the number as low as possible.
10 years ago they said there were 40 million Kurds and they're still saying the same. So the Kurdish population didn't increase in 10 years time? Fucking liars and idiots.

Kurdish population in ''Turkey'' is at least 25 million, in ''Iraq'' 7 million, in ''Iran'' 8 million and in ''Syria'' 3 million.
So the total Kurdish population within the borders of Greater Kurdistan is at least 43 million.

AND THIS IS WITHOUT THE MILLIONS OF KURDS LIVING OUTSIDE GREATER KURDISTAN!

We are probably 50 million now :).

Kurds are at least 75 million people if you count in the Kurds that still knows they are Kurds but are speaking a foreign language. Also, if you count in Kurds who are afraid to say that they are Kurds.

you are counting the dozen assimilated Kurds also. People of Kurdish blood in Anatolia are probably around 30 million but only some ~20 mio did protect their identity. in East counting all the Kurds from urmiya to Khorasan you would get probably some 15-20 million if you go by people with Kurdish blood but only some 7-10 preserved their kurdish identity. In Syria its even more extreme. There was a time when Kurds made up almost 40% of the Population (maybe even more) many of the Syrians are actually of Kurdish, Druze(which themselves are also mostly of Kurdish origin) and Syriac origin but today only ~3 mio of the people have preserved their identity.

Overall the number of 40 mio Kurds is most realistic.

75million is a bit too much even foreigners and afraid Kurds. I would get 40-45million are proud Kurds all around the world.

If we we're that many, we would have to include the balochis as kurds. As other's have said, we're probably around 45-50 million.

No man this is not realistic.
You are adding almost 100% to the total number.
You realize what you just did? You created another 30-35 million Kurds.
That's like adding the population of Norway (5 million), Sweden (7 million), Finland (5 million I believe), Denmark (5 million), Ireland (6 million) and Switzerland (7 million) to the total lol! 6 countries xD

In Turkey alone the population of Kurds is around 23-24 millions. This is STATE FIGURES. The former official state figures were around 16 million. So thats another 7-8 million added recently. The official figures of Kurds in Germany is around 500.000, while Turks are 2 millions. Whenever you actually ask people in Germany, be it Turks or Kurds, they say it is almost opposite.

Here in Denmark, it is said that Turks are the biggest ethnic minority. But it becomes clear to everyone that this is false and that Kurds are actually the biggest minority ethnicity in Denmark.

The confussion is due to pasports. There is no Kurdish passports. No Kurdish ethnicity other than in KRG and Iraq. Kurds are either Turks, Iraqis, Iranians or Syrians as nationality.
