- Gulan Revolution and Call for Unity
Masoud Barzani, President of the KDP, described the revolution as “one of the most important milestones in the resistance and struggle of the people of Kurdistan,” emphasizing its role as a continuation of the September Revolution.
“Our people made many sacrifices. Many heroic Peshmerga gave their lives for Kurdistan, and a large part of our people endured displacement, hardship, and perseverance,” Barzani said in a statement.
Nechirvan Barzani, Deputy President of the KDP, also issued a statement, calling the Gulan Revolution “an unparalleled example of the will of a people who, in rejecting oppression and occupation, never gave up.”
He praised the people of Kurdistan for demonstrating that they are “ready for any sacrifice” in defense of their existence and freedom.
Nechirvan Barzani further stressed the importance of unity, saying, “Let the memory of the Gulan Revolution be a further incentive for us for harmony and togetherness, so that through joint work and cooperation, we may step towards a better future.”
Masrour Barzani, Deputy President of the KDP, echoed these sentiments, honoring the revolution’s fighters and leaders.
“With great respect and appreciation, we commemorate all the strugglers, fighters, commanders, and heroic Peshmerga who participated in this revolution and, with dignity and high conviction, defended the people of Kurdistan,” he said.
He underlined the revolution’s historical significance, stating that it “shattered the plots of Kurdistan's enemies and, through self-sacrifice and continued struggle, opened a new horizon before the people of Kurdistan.”
Masrour Barzani also called for continued unity among all components, parties, and forces in the region.
“We emphasize joint work, harmony, a unified position, and the joint struggle of all Kurdistani components… as that unity was one of the valuable principles of the Gulan Revolution, which led to the formation of the Kurdistan Front, the success of the March 1991 Uprising, and the achievement of all national gains.”
The Gulan Revolution, launched on May 26, 1976, was a renewed phase of armed resistance against the Iraqi regime, following the collapse of the September Revolution.
It laid the groundwork for future Kurdish political and military advancements in the struggle for autonomy and rights.
