Authorities in the province of Duhok in collaboration with UNESCO and the European Union are renovating Charsteen cave, an ancient archeological site and an important symbol of Zoroastrianism religion in the Kurdistan Region

"The European Union has allocated $731,000, with 20 percent of the budget required for equipment needed for the renovation of Charsteen site dedicated by the province of Duhok," Bekas Brifkani, the head of the department of archeology and antiquities in Duhok, told BasNews.

The European Union is renovating the site in collaboration with UNESCO. The project is estimated to create work for local laborers for at least 27 years."

The Kurdistan Region has a collection of ancient artifacts, cultural heritage, and archaeological sites of global significance, many of which have been acknowledged by UNESCO.
