In some quarters of Kirkuk, the process of returning disputed lands to ‘their original owners’ started, after a decision made by Kirkuk governor Nejmadin Karim.
The process started last week in the neighborhoods of Ts’en, Wasti, Yaki Huzairan and Baath. Najat Hasan, a member of the Turkmen list said, “the lands were given to the Arabs by the former regime, but now are being returned to the original owners.”
According to Kirkuk Now information, most of the lands belong to Turkmens, but some of the ‘transported Arabs’ also claim their ownership.
Muhamad Khidir al-Jabouri, a member of the Kirkuk Provincial Council (KPC) said, “some of the lands belong to Arabs and not Turkmens, but Turkmens claim them supported by the head of the KPC Hasan Torhan.” Al-Jabouri said that they warned Torhan to ‘stop the invasion’ but he neglected their demands.
Hasan rejected the intention of an ‘invasion’ saying, “returning these lands are the right of Turkmens and the issue is decided already. What’s going on is not an invasion, and the Kirkuk governor has decided on the issue, not the head of the KPC.”
Last week, Kirkuk Now published news about solving 87% of the disputed lands in Kirkuk city.
