Franso Hariri Stadium - Hawler

Franso Hariri Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Erbil. It is currently used mostly for football matches and also has facilities for athletics. The stadium holds 28 thousands making it the the biggest in Kurdistan and the second largest in Iraq after the Al Shaab Stadium in Baghdad. The stadium was built on an old airfield in 1956 and was redeveloped in 1992. The stadium was home to the old Brusk club (renamed Al-Shurta Arbil) and was named the Erbil Stadium up until 2001. It was renamed the Martyr Franso Hariri Stadium in honor of the assassinated governor Franso Hariri, who supported efforts to renovate the stadium.

In July 2009 Franso Hariri Stadium became Iraq national football team's home venue after the green-light from AFC to host the Iraqi national and clubs teams in Erbil.

Sulaimani Stadium

It is a multi-use stadium in Sulaimani . It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home stadium of Sulaimani .
The stadium holds 15,000 people.

Duhok Stadium

It is a multi-use stadium in Dohuk .It is currently used mostly for football matches and serves as the home stadium of Duhok football club.
It was first Opened in 1986 , it now has a Capacity of 20000 as it was renovated in 1998, 2008 respectively.

Kirkuk Olympic Stadium

It is a multi-use stadium in Kirkuk. It is currently used mostly for football matches and it also has an athletics track. The stadium holds 30,000.
Turkish company Ava Sport is still renovating the Olympic Stadium in Kirkuk, the oldest stadium in the city. The reconstruction began last summer, locals hope it will someday be ready to host international matches.

The stadium was built in 1982 for an Olympics that never happened. After the fall of the former regime in 2003 at least 500 Kurds displaced by Saddam Hussein's forced resettlement "Arabization" policy returned to Kirkuk and settled in the stadium. The families stayed in the ground for more than seven years, only recently moving on.

The director of Youth and Sports of Kirkuk Jabbar Mohammed Ibrahim said "They left the stadium after the allocation of ten million dinars each by President Jalal Talabani."

The stadium refurbishment is being done in two phases. First the stadium is being comprehensively rebuilt. Phase two will augment the facilities.

During the sport ministers visit to Iraqi Kurdistan, a deal has been made between the minister.
Erbil governomate and KRG to build an International stadium in Erbil to host the national teams.
It will cost $ 100 million ..

Kirkuk, the international design field

The head of the Representation of Olympic Kirkuk, on 10th of June, said that Kirkuk will see a radical change in the sport sector in 2013.

Khaled announced that there are large sports projects currently under work in the stadiums and halls such as the establishment of a closed sport centers and Five courses.

He told (Kirkuk NOW) that there is a delay in the establishment of sports and urban projects in Kirkuk for this reason there are no modern stadiums in the city, "worthy of our potential players and athletes."

Kirkuk lacks modern sports stadiums, while comprising only two courses which are in the center of the city of ,they Kirkuk Club which was established in 1947 and the Revolution Club which was established in 1954.

He stressed that during the next year there will be the completion of the Olympic Stadium in Kirkuk , there will be four other large standard playgrounds which will have the capacity to hold more than 5 thousand people .
Is due to open in the province of Kirkuk during the current year 4 new fields according to the specifications of the five high-embarked in fact, built for the development of sports in the province at a total cost exceeded the 36 billion dinars.

Kirkuk is suffering from a delay in the establishment of sports projects, in particular modern stadiums, but officials have suggested that the city will change radically their betterment will promote sports within the next few years.

This project is a closed sports hall, which was given to a local company in 2008 with expenses of 5.6 Billion Dinars.
The hall sits on four acres of land, and is built in both a modern and global style.

Kirkuk has four closed halls; three of them belonging to the Education Ministry, and one of them to Youth Directorate.

ERBIL, June 21 (AKnews)- A sports city in Erbil, capital of the Kurdistan Region, will be constructed soon. It will be the largest city across the Middle East in terms of its facilities, according to the Stadium website.

The website citing some informed sources said that the city will comprise four stadiums; only one has the capacity of seating 100,000 spectators and the others only 50,000.

The city will also include exercise stadiums, sports centers, hotels and pools.

The project will be put to tender in the coming few months and should be completed within two years.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has sanctioned the project submitted by Kurdistan Olympics Committee, according to the source.
